Mini-Camp: A James Cook Barometer
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BigAl2526's topic in The Stadium Wall
Barkley, Elliott, Henry had a resume they could use to justify the big $$. Cook has one year with a huge number of TD's, that's really about it. I wouldn't be totally shocked if Cook doesn't show up next week Beane tries to trade him. Recall the story from the 1960's with Vince Lombardi. Agents for players was more the exception than the rule. One of the Packers goes into Lombardi's office with his new agent. Vince says give me a a couple minutes, walks back in 15 minutes later and tells the player, he can't help him with a new contract as he's just been traded. -
Will Josh be at OTAs this week?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Are there OTA's this coming week, I thought the next round was mandatory mini-camp? Whenever he does show up he may look a bit tired. Actually thinking about it some more, now that he's married, less reason to be tired. -
Who was invited to Josh and Hailee's wedding?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Willie West's topic in The Stadium Wall
Maybe it's changed twice? Back in the 70's open bar was the norm? Then late 80s hit, DWI laws got tough, religion as you said frowned on it so they went away, but now more common again?? -

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Willie West's topic in The Stadium Wall
I got married in the 70's and had an open bar and most other wedding I heard about were all open bars and not talking rich elite people here either. Maybe depended on location, I'm referring to NYC area?? -
Yeah Bishop, Rapp, and Hancock are locks so leave 1 to 1.5 slots. I say 1.5 as again would give the edge to Lewis in that he can play other positions besides safety so may keep 4 plus Lewis. So then comes down to Hamlin and Forrest and agree with you in that the team like Hamlin and he knows the system very well. He's physically limited, but doesn't make mistakes. I do somewhat like the NBA process better in the the draft comes prior to free agency in that would the Bills even have bothered signing both Hamlin and Forrest if they knew they were drafting Hancock. Same on the D line, have a glut of bodies. And while it's easy to cut some of these vets, there is still wasted signing bonus money that goes against the cap. Plus from the players standpoint, wonder if players like Forrest and the two D lineman who have the 6 game suspensions would have signed here if they knew the Bills were planning to draft 3 D lineman?

Most Beloved Bills: 1 year (ok up to 2)
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BillsShredder83's topic in The Stadium Wall
OK I'll go three years and maybe not most beloved, but probably most impactful, Byrce Paup. That was one very good defense he was the center of. When I looked it up I was surprised to read he was here for three years, I thought it was less. Don't recall why he left, was he a FA after 3 years? That was the last year he made the pro bowl here in Buffalo so they had his best years. -
Jim Nantz Predicted Schedule 2025
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to ryguy101's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sure, but none of them are any better than Bills Jets either. Add to that the Jet's are the NYC market so that helps and the Bills are better than any of those other teams listed. -
Jim Nantz Predicted Schedule 2025
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to ryguy101's topic in The Stadium Wall
Fox has the 4:25 game that week so for the most part whatever network doesn't have the 4:25 game has almost all 1:00 games. There will be one or two regional 4:05 games also on that same network. The big 4:25 game that week is Phi at KC Below is a list of the CBS games that week, which game looks better than Bills/Jets? 1:00 BUF @ NYJ CLE @ BAL NE @ MIA LAR @ TN JAX @ CIN 4:05 DEN @ IND CAR @ AZ -
Is Daquan Jones a cut candidate?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BigAl2526's topic in The Stadium Wall
I believe even if they do nothing, the saving could roll over to the 2026 cap?? Being a vet, his salary is fully guaranteed after week 1 so not much incentive to cut once the season starts IMO? -
I've seen a hot dog cart on a street corner in downtown Charlotte selling Sahlen's Hot Dogs!!

Yes he won a SB,, so did Mike Tomlin, does that mean he'd also be a better coach or as you yourself mentioned Harbaugh? Think in particular withTomlin, the game has passed him by. You're right an opinion, My opinion is maybe that could happen, but when you factor in the sub .500 teams, just as likely we ended up even worse overall. Peyton could also just as easily be what McNabb and Reid were. Everyone seems to have forgotten that side of Reid these days. As Gunner Bill states below facts you failed to mention:
-
Agree not likely the bottom will fall out, but to me the reason to replace him is to improve, not to do the same. Brady could be a great choice, but when you look at how many new coaches don't succeed, the odds aren't that good IMO. I see changing coaches more as a case of rearranging the deck chairs. In fact as you stated and I agreed with you on, most other coaches could do the same., that to me is the very definition of rearranging the deck chairs. Could you somehow find the perfect arrangement, sure, but what are odds?
-
Agree completely about Harbaugh. Can't believe him and Tomlin still have jobs. Harbargh is living off his one win so does really that make him a better coach than McD? Have to say looking at those defensive rankings, for three years the Bills had a top 5 defense, but to me doesn't really pass the eyeball test. Did the defense ever really feel like a top 5 unit? To me it didn't, think they were lucky in some games. Even this past year they were ranked 11th, but that had a lot to do with all their turnovers which to me isn't very sustainable. Seem to recall another year the Bills had a large turnover advantage too?? The year they were #1 was the 13 seconds game and gave up what over 30 points to KC. As far as moving on from McD, great! lets do it who you going to hire that will be certain to win the Bills a SB? To me that's the problem, statistically there's a much better chance the team will get worse with another coach simply because when you only lose 3 games all year, it's much easier to do worse than better. If you're the Giants who've won 9 games in the past two seasons, it's easy to say, lets dump the coach as we likely will do better. McVey won a SB, but overall has a worse record than McD so is he the answer? Shanahan? Belichick couldn't win without Brady and have to wonder to how much under the table stuff went on too over the years?
-
You mention this guy Reid, is he the same guy who in 14 years with the Eagles managed to win only one NFC championship? Sounds like McD is exactly like Reid! You can argue the difference is Reid has Mahomes in KC and we have Allen so McD should also be able to win it all now, but he had a pretty good QB in Philly and a strong overall team, but couldn't win there either so there's alot more to it than just the QB. I think the one difference in KC is the Chiefs had a pretty good team before Mahomes arrived so there was talent around him to start. When Allen came here the cupboard was pretty bare and the Bills tried to quickly put talent around him. That's good short term, but long term not as good as having the talent there first. Add to that you had a brand new first time coach and GM in Buffalo. Veach was a 1st time GM too, but was with the Chiefs a couple years prior and helped starting to build the team, plus worked with Reid in Philly.

First things to look for when the schedule comes out
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Charles Romes's topic in The Stadium Wall
How many games will likely be on national TV so can decide whether it's worth it to buy ST or not! -
It was this time last year they offered the $100 off, as was right prior to schedule coming out. Probably they figure once schedule is out as you see the Bills or whatever team you're following is on maybe 10 games already, why bother getting it. Haven't tried this in a couple years, but use to be able to spoof IP address and then watch came on local Buffalo CBS station, you did need a Paramount + account, but that was less than $10 a month.

Elijah Moore Visiting the Bills today (Update: Signed!)
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to bills742's topic in The Stadium Wall
Think it's more a case that many of the posters here who's expert evaluation skills can tell after one injury filled season that Coleman is a bust, much faster than any coaches or front office folks can figure it out. I do think one advantage Moore will have over Cooper last year is that he's here already, through all of mini camps, training camp, and pre-season. During the season it's hard to get much real practice time. Wasn't there also something that right after Cooper signed, Allen got dinged up and was barely participating in throwing during the week. Thought I recalled reading that up till around Dec 1st Cooper and Allen only had like maybe 2 practice sessions together. Or am I thinking of a guy they signed mid season the year or two prior? -

I remember the round table with Felser and Carucci. There were two others, that were also good. Was one also Van Miller? Did enjoy and missed it when it ended. -
Why Landon Jackson is the next MONSTER in the NFL

Or fall when the 6 game suspension ends for the other two. -
43 year career, wonder if they will replace him or just go with the 3 remaining. https://buffalonews.com/sports/professional/nfl/bills/article_0dc8ab03-a34b-4fbd-9ca7-60e712f32eb5.html

Bills Offseason moves to date & Projected Roster
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to GASabresIUFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
You got to remember there was no free agency back then so was more worthwhile for a team to draft a decent backup and hang on to him as he couldn't go anywhere. If the Bills drafted someone decent, lets say Sanders, he's hardly going to play and once his contract is up, he's going to bolt for the chance to play elsewhere. Practice time, pre-season, training camp were all longer back then too so the backup had time to actually play and develop. Read someplace that the backup gets about 6 snaps per week with the 1st team so how's a low drafted rookie ever going to get any good on a team like Buffalo? The 3rd string running the scout team has more opportunities. Available QB's are ither going to go to a team where the starter is on shaky ground so they know a couple bad weeks and that guy will be benched and I'll get my shot. Or you have a guy like Mitch who's been around the block a couple times and has come to realization, his destiny is to be a backup. Darnold is maybe an exception, but lets see how this year plays out first too. -
