  1. So the NFL is saying that its impossible to fit more than one helmet to a player's head? What happens if a player breaks part of his helmet, rendering it unusable? Is that player then done for the season? Its a stupid rule, plain and simple. More nonsense from the No Fun League.
  2. There's equal talent along the lines available every year in the pick 25-45 region as there is in the top 10. Just say NO to fat guys at the top of the draft. Taking an OL that high is nothing more than a waste of a pick. How well have the teams like the fins, rams, and browns done after spending high picks on the OL?
  3. Funny thing that "injury-prone" label is. Players are "injury-prone" until they aren't. Would you call Matt Stafford injury-prone? That's all he got when he played 13 of 32 games his 1st 2 seasons. Since then, he's started 48 consecutive games. I don't hear too many people calling him injury-prone anymore.
  4. If teams don't allow their all-pros to leave, then how did we get Mario Williams?
  5. It seems to me that FA WRs are rarely worth their asking price. I know that most name FAs are overpaid, but in my non-scientific research, the vast majority of WRs seem to not live up anywhere near their contract value. The notable exception in recent years i can think of is Vincent Jackson. I'd just as soon draft a WR if we're going to upgrade.
  6. Just for old times sake... "Holding, #79, offense..."
  7. DT Timmy Jernigan, FSU (Junior): 6'2", 298 lbs Pros: Jernigan is a strong, nasty player. The kid is a bowling ball. He was the anchor of FSUs DL for the better part of 2+ seasons. Ignore his official "starts" because even when he didn't technically "start" he typically played the majority of the snaps. He's a penetrating DT, who disrupts the backfield in a hurry. He can play the run or the pass by blowing past the OL. Even though he's a smaller DT, he can hold the line due to his strength. He goes non-stop and makes plenty of plays away from the point of attack. If you watched the national title game, there was a marked difference between Auburn's run game when Timmy was in there and when he was out (he was suffering from the flu). Probably best suited as a 4-3 DT. Cons: He plays through the whistle, which led to a handful of personal fouls in the past few years. He probably needs to learn some better body control, often using his pure strength and athleticism to blow past college OLs. Other Notes: He made an instant impact on FSUs D, starting in his freshman season, due to his raw strength and athleticism. Here's a patented "Timmy Smash"
  8. The Mike Williams was the negative comparison. I'm an FSU alum, still living in Tallahassee, but for sake of the draft, i try to be as balanced as possible and provide both sides good and bad in my player analysis. I honestly just don't know how his speed will stack up at the NFL level. If he can show speed, he'll be tough to stop. If he's just "college fast" then he'll definitely struggle.
  9. I'm of the same mind that we need to improve the OL, I just don't think that pick 9 is the spot to do it. you can get just as good OL talent between picks 25-75. Look where we've gotten out best OL recently. Wood was about pick 28 and Levitre and Glenn were second rounders. At 9 I wouldn't be opposed to a LB, or especially a TE. As for Levitre, letting him go wasn't the problem. The issue was having no plan to replace him. There were 3-4 good FA OGs that we could have brought in and didn't. This year I think we can address at least one of the trouble OL spots in free agency, and then snag an OL in round 2 or 3.
  10. You don't find it odd that ESPN doesn't credit him with a single FF in his career? No matter how you slice it, you're wrong.
  11. Taking fat guys in the top 10 is an epic waste of draft resources. How many wins have Joe Thomas and Jake Long gotten their teams? Grab OL in rounds 2-3 where the real value is.
  12. WR Kelvin Benjamin, FSU (RS Sophomore): 6'5" 230 lbs Here's what my untrained eye saw: Pros: He's a huge, physically imposing target. He's a matchup nightmare for anyone. He'll outleap anyone for the ball. He uses his body down the field to hield the defender away. He's one of those guys that's "open when he's not open". He provided a huge, big play target downfield for both Winston and Manuel. He made huge strides this season from his freshman year. He became a better route runner and started to refine his game. He knows how to high point the ball, and catches more with his hands than his body. He's also not afraid to block. Cons: I have 2 big questions marks for Benjamin at the next level. 1, can he get separation off the line? Florida and Auburn had some initial success jamming him off the line, which he was able to overcome as the games went on. But he's not the quickest guy off the line. 2, how will his speed hold up at the next level? I dont know his 40 time and it'll be interesting to see what he clocks at. It's a concern to me because the NFL has eaten up talented big WRs that were "college fast" but not "NFL fast". I really can't say how fast he truly is. Other notes: He struggled a decent amount his freshman year, adjusting to the college game. It appeared that he was trying to rely on his physical tools early on like he was able to in high school. He didn't always put in a ton of effort and sometimes slacked when his number wasn't called. This year, he was a different player. You saw a complete effort whenever he was on the field. Positive Outlook: I think he's going to be one of those players that will take a season or 2 to be really good. He'll probably pay off in year 2 or 3 moreso that his rookie season. He still needs some development and needs more work on route running. If he puts the same effort in as he did this season, he's got a chance to be one of those big, uncoverable targets. Negative Outlook: He's one of those big WRs that's "college fast" and can't get the separation at the next level, and goes the way of a Mike Williams (USC).
  13. Lets see, Khalil Mack entered his senior season with 11 forced fumbles. He broke Terrell Suggs' record for career forced fumbles when he finished with 16. He forced 3 fumbles in a single game against Miami of Ohio this season. He had 1 against Ohio St. He had 1 against Ohio. Care to enlighten all of us as to how that adds up to zero forced fumbles this season? Or are you just concerned with spreading lies and falsehoods like usual? http://www.nfl.com/n...y-terrell-suggs http://www.rotoworld...607/khalil-mack
  14. Tom Moore was the architect of the Colts offense. All Caldwell did was run that team into the ground. He's an awful coach. I'm actually feeling sorry for Lions fans. This is a God-awful hire, and the Lions are on track to win about 15 games total over the next 3 years.
  15. Wilder is an enigma. All the physical talent in the world, but had trouble putting it together. He's not the fastest back, which could be a concern at the next level. But he's a grinder who will put his head down and keep the legs churning. He always seeks out contact, and rarely does the first guy bring him down. There are a few reasons his career never took off down here. He's been in a time share, but never proved himself head and shoulders above the others. In his first few seasons, he couldn't be trusted to hit the right hole when he ran, often missing open lanes. He also couldnt be trusted to block/pick up the blitz. He doesn't seem to be the smartest guy around. Then this season he's been fighting nagging injuries. He had a concussion and suffered a rib injury. And Karlos Williams switched to RB. He's going to be a beast next year.
  16. FSU's DT Timmy Jernigan is going to enter the draft. FSU's LT Cam Erving, OG Tre Jackson, WR Rashad Greene, and TE Nick O'Leary are staying in school for their senior seasons.
  17. Cool. A brief search seems to indicate that you can re-roll cap space from year to year. I've come across multiple site that suggest this), Here's a pretty good write-up (from a year ago) if you haven't seen it. http://www.raidersblog.com/2012/12/26/implications-of-salary-cap-rollover/
  18. According to this, the Bills have about $29 million adjusted cap space for 2014, 6th most in the league. (And thid should already have taken into account Fitz's 7 million) http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24379050/agents-take-raiders-atop-list-of-10-teams-with-best-2014-salary-cap-situation
  19. The whole process in very black box. It has to do with players signed versus players lost, and then takes into account contracts and such, and then the league considers how much they like your team. That's why the league's "darling" teams get multiple high round comp picks.
  20. Nice post Dave. Interesting to note that the 2 best seasons were '02, propelled by the Bledsoe hot streak in the 1st 8 games, and '06, when the much maligned JP Losman started all 16 games.
  21. Andy Dalton is the shining beacon of this problem. He's simply not good enough to get Cincy over the hump. I doubt we'll ever see him in a Super Bowl. He doesn't have the abilities to go head to head with the greats.
  22. The throws i've seen Winston make this year are nothing short of amazing. Throwing guys open, putting the ball in windows that weren't even there. His anticipation and pocket awareness are off the charts. He can run, but is not a very good runner, and prefers to stay in the pocket to make plays. EJ was a good QB for us here. Jameis is nothing short of amazing. Kid is a once in a generation talent. Hell of a pitcher too, as he's slated to be our closer in the spring. His fastball has been clocked in the upper 90s. In Miami (with their radar guys) they clocked him in the 95-97 range.
  23. Thats why teams like the pats avoid players like Aqib Talib, correct?
  24. What about Freddie "all heart" Jackson with 2 drops and getting stuffed on a critical 3rd and 2? Oh that's right, Freddie is above reproach. Watch other games. The vast majority of RBs run OOB instead of absorbing useless hits. It's called protecting your body and prolonging your career.
