Can people really be this stupid?
Ramius replied to The_Philster's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rumor is that the reason for taking the game away from hawaii (which most players love going on vacation for the week) was to give the owners another bargaining chip in the upcoming CBA negotiations. You want the pro-bowl back to hawaii permanently? Then you only get 58%, not 59%. -
Wonder if Manbearpig will update his Powerpoint

Scientists are willing to accept they are wrong? Go home and tell your wife she's wrong, and you'll get the same response as telling any scientist that he/she is wrong. -
Some late thoughts on an awesome episode... If the O6 landed back on the island in the 70's/80's/Dharma time, and Jin in there, perhaps he encountered a young charlotte and taught her korean? Also, what if the staged plane crash of Oceanic 815 that was "found" was the Ajira flight? In a true time-!@#$, that would explain how Frank said, a few seasons back, "thats not oceanic 815, i was flying that plane (referring to the one in the ocean)"

Bills to make one last push for Greer
Ramius replied to BillsGuyInMalta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You have a simple choice - spend some bucks to keep a decent corner, or watch the team use a high pick on one. As of right now, i would not be comfortable with going into 2010 with either Youboty or Corner as the starting CB opposite McKelvin. Both are decent young corners and both have shown flashes of potential. Perhaps one of them steps up this year. So we keep greer around and we're set for a while with Greer, McKelvin, Youboty, and Corner. With the need for 3 good CBs, that lineup would do ok. As for cash to the cap, what big names are the bills going to go after? None. Haynesworth, etc aren't going to come here. Hopefully we can pick up a good center in FA, but aside from that, i see no place where there is a need or the appropriate talent to spend big bucks in free agency. There are no TEs worth a damn, and no edge rushers or really good DTs. Instead of chasing good money on average FAs from other teams, lets lock up some of our own, and spend premium draft picks elsewhere. -
Bills to make one last push for Greer
Ramius replied to BillsGuyInMalta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So you B word when the bills dont re-sign their CBs and then have to draft replacements. But now you B word when they try to re-sign a decent CB? Newsflash...as much as you hate to admit it, you actually do need some CBs on the field to play defense. At least 2 on most downs. As much as you'd like it, you can't actually play D with 11 DL/LBs. Not to mention that McGee is a free agent next year, so locking up greer would be planning ahead. -
Ok course greer has a say where he is going to be traded to. No team is going to trade for a franchised player without renegotiating a long term deal. A franchised player can make outrageous demands, or simply refuse to negotiate with the trade partner, and the deal is dead in the water.
-
Understand Deano, i wish the Bills would keep greer. I had hoped they would re-sign him (but didn't expect them to). If they franchise greer with the intention of buying more time to sign him to a long term deal, i'm fine with that. However, it would be very unwise to franchise greer with the sole intention of trading him.

Preferably they'd use snowballs from snow that fell on a pile of rocks and broken glass. -
Ahhh yes, let's play the assumption game, that any player we sign is automatically going to suck. Are we headed to the super bowl next year? Is Jabari greer that one piece that is going to push us over the top? If the answer was yes, then franchise him. But that answer is a big emphatic no. I'm all for keeping greer around with a long term deal. There's nothing wrong with that. But keeping him for 1 year at 10 million and then facing the same situation next year not a reasonable choice when this team has much bigger holes to fill.

Apparently tagging and trading is like trading down in the draft. Close your eyes, turn around 3 times, click your heels, and all of a sudden you have a high pick for your franchised player who isn't really worth the tag. Nevermind that you need a trade partner, someone that the player wants to go to, somewhere they can agree on an acceptable long term extension, and someone that is willing to part with picks or players to acquire and pay such player. And as for Dockery, that argument holds no water. Dockery was a RFA, not a UFA, so he wasn't going to hit the market anyway. I don't see what that has anything to do with the current crop of UFA CBs.
-
Another problem could be that Greer could demand 10 million per season and 25 million guaranteed in a trade. If no team bites on the contract demands, we're stuck with him at 9.8 million for next season.
-
I don't think there will be a suspension.
-
Of course, paying that kind of cash is the only way anyone in their right mind would want to sign with the raiders. Not a bad move by Nnamdi. He's making a guaranteed 45-50 million, or a guaranteed 28.5 million with a chance to cash in again as a FA in 2 years. Which makes you wonder what the hell the raiders are thinking. When you break down the numbers, they've basically just agreed to franchise tag him for the next 2-3 years.

Julius Peppers to be tagged
Ramius replied to In space no one can hear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Relating to the Bills, OT Gross' contract pays him 30 million dollars over the first 3 years of his new deal. Looks like that's what we'll have to pay Peters. http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/19/panthers-g...-six-year-deal/ EDIT: it was a 6 year deal worth about 60 million. get ready to fork over that cash for peters. -
Agreed. Because the second greer signs the tag, he's guaranteed his 9 million from either us or someone else. You can't tag him and simply expect to get someone who will give up picks for him. Its akin to trading down. Too many people think its as simple as blinking your eyes. You franchise greer and some team will magically trade something for him. And what about the contract demands. The new team is going to sign him to a long term deal. Greer can then play hard ball with potential trade partners because he knows he's got a guaranteed 9 mil. Tagging and trading may be a good idea for players that want to leave, but only if they are worth the tag value. If you dont think Jabari Greer is worth 10 million per season, then you can't tag him and *expect* someone to trade for him.
-
The risk with the franchise tag is that you are forgoing the guaranteed money you could collect on a long term deal. That's why players hate it. You are right that Dansby will bank 16 million over 2 years, a good chunk of coin. But what happens if Dansby blows out a knee and his career is done? He would have the 9 mil from this season and thats it. Compare that to the open market where he's probably sign for 7-8 milper year with 20 mil guaranteed. Sure he's getting 9 mil in one year, but on the open market he'd bank at least 25-30 mil over the next year.
-
Greer will probably get something similar. I guess even i was a bit low and i was expecting Greer to get 6-6.5 mil per season.

There are some good Buffalo writers. I like Gaughn, Wilson, Graham , Pollock and some of the guys you mentioned. But the overwhelming negativity and mob mentality that seems in infiltrate the Buffalo Sports media is ridiculous, be it the Bills or the Sabres. As an out of towner, i rely on the local Buffalo media to give me the most inside info about any situation regarding our sports teams. I want information and some insight. I want someone to address the situation like an adult and be able to discuss it, not simply engage in an assault on a particular player that they dont like or personally have a grudge against. There's enough of the immature, negative, trash everything and everyone mentality on the boards. I expect it from here. I don't expect it from the local sports media. Lynch has made some very stupid and bad decisions over the past year. But from the sports media, i expect a little more thought and insight. Its very possible to write a scathing article regarding Lynch and his behavior and question his future here without resorting to, "he's a punk ass thug who should be cut right away." A good number of media personalities seem to be most concerned with generating controversy than they do with churning out good work. Perhaps i expect to much from supposed "professionals."
-
Whats the difference? All of the players received a promise not to be tagged again. The Bills didn't want to set a bad precedent by outright lying to one of their players.
-
Briggs, Haynesworth, Samuel, etc. Lots of these guys aren't signing the franchise tag until they have a clause that will prevent them from being franchised again.

Peppers Narrowed Suitors Down to Four.......

Ummm, that article is from 2008. -
Solid back-up type player and spot starter. Good re-signing by the Bills.

They are *supposed* to be professionals. It is one thing to discuss a situation and give your opinions. Its another thing to completely assault someone because you have a grudge against them. It is entirely possible to discuss how Marshawn was being a dumbass out in Cali, and how he's made 2 bad decisions in the past year. They can question his character and his decision making. Its quite another to simply go after the guy because they don't like him. They shouldn't stoop down to the "he's a punk thug" type of level. But, i guess no more can be expected from most of the filth that infests Buffalo's media. And as was mentioned before, its not like this is an uncommon event. Players get arrested all the time for stupid crap.
