Wouldn't have an issue with it if we had a good situation cap wise or if we didn't have so many bodies to replace. But we don't have either of those boxes checked. And those bodies include at least 4 starters (maybe 5 if we have to move on from Poyer) and when it comes to DT, we literally have only 1 on the roster. Beane is surely going to get us space out from under ~52m so we can make some moves. But it won't be so much space that we'll be able to cover everything pre-Draft. We'll need to walk out of the Draft with 2 starters, at least. I'm all for using Round 1 to cover the starting WR role. And I'm for starting a Round 2 and/or Round 3 player on Defense and covering some spots elsewhere on Defense with some cheaper options. But we can't ignore that side of the ball completely and put literally all of our biggest FA contracts and our top 2 picks into WR and Offense alone, as Warrior would have. 1 WR in Round 1, 1 in Round 4, and a 2nd tier FA like Hollywood Brown (or similar level player) to go along with Diggs, Shakir, Shorter and other weapons like Kincaid and Cook and we'll be in a much better position than last year. I think even that might be more than Beane will be willing to do. Asking for more than that isn't realistic IMO.

I have no problem with Round 1 at WR. I think it's probably a no brainer, given their cost. But Round 1 AND Round 2? That can't happen unless we've covered starters at DE, DT (including a solid 3rd for rotation), and Safety (possibly both Safeties) prior to the Draft. Given our cap situation, that's very unlikely. We're going to need to find a Starter in both Rounds 1 and 2. One of those can be a WR. But not both. We can Draft another WR on Day 3 to go with our 1st Rounder. But we can't afford to go Rounds 1 and 2 back to back.

If we go another position Round 1, sure. But Round 1 and Round 2 at WR isn't happening unless we were to somehow cover all other starting positions and important rotational depth that we have holes at in FA with and did nothing with WR.

It makes sense, Josh can probably only relate with other Superheroes 😛 As a big MCU fan and of course a die hard Bills and Josh fan, I thought it was pretty cool that Josh got with Kate Bishop. I actually really enjoyed the Hawkeye show. She and Florence Pugh, who plays the new Black Widow, had really fun chemistry:

That's what it really comes down to. Another year where we're in better shape financially or we didn't have so many holes to fill, maybe 4-5m on Henry to pair with Cook wouldn't be a bad idea. But since we're in terrible shape with both, it's just not something we can afford to do. We're not in a position for luxury items like carrying two of the top 4 RB's in Rushing would be for what it would cost. The 4-5m ticket items (or more) will have to go to starting positions like WR, DE, DT, and S.

Not to mention trading up for Khalil Shakir and trading down for James Cook.

We're talking about the guy like he's toast and begging for a job. I'll say it again, regardless of everything that's said, he was still #2 in the league in Rushing last season. He's not completely fallen off like an Ezekiel Elliott or Dalvin Cook. Teams were willing to give up Draft Picks just to rent him for the Playoffs. And there's a difference between an affordable RB and affordable for Derrick Henry. We're in the 1-2 million range for the role we're looking for given who we already have there, our cap, and all of the bodies (including starters) we need to replace elsewhere. Instead of the 10.5m he's been on, he'll be more in the 5.5-6.5 range. A really good deal would be like 4.5m. Simply not going to do that for a change of pace back, especially in the shape we're in. And someone will offer him a role more than just change of pace.

I mean, he was still 2nd in the entire league in Rushing and had 1381 yards from scrimmage last season. It wasn't his 2020 or 2022 outings, but he's far from toast. Either way, he's out of the price range for the role he'd have on our team given our cap situation and the amount of starting positions and important depth players we have to replace.

The NFLPA will file a grievance even in a losing battle. And his scenario, yes, he was on the Ski. But he was stationary filling up the tank. So there was some question as to whether the injury occurring while not riding and being a victim of someone hitting him really constituted as a breach of the contract.

Would it be nice to have 2023's 2nd & 4th Leading Rusher on the same team? Sure. It'd be nice to have Josh Allen at Defensive End too. We can play the game that a Superstar who hasn't fallen off (like Elliott did before he got 3m) isn't going to have a market just because he just turned 30. And that no one else who's a contender will be interested. And that we'll even put as much as 4m into a 2nd RB, with all the holes we have and the situation we're in cap wise. But none of that is based in reality. We'll probably be re-signing Johnson. And we'll probably Draft a young thumper on Day 3. And that will cost us less than a third of what Henry alone will cost.

Here we go. It's bad enough the media likes to make something out of nothing every year. Do we really need to do it here every year too? It's nothing. Same as last year. His contract isn't really tradable. Especially with how he played at the end of last year. Why would a team take that on if there's any concern he's falling off? As for what he said, I read it as nothing. I just took it as him looking at how things ended last season and the team being a mess roster wise and not taking for granted that he's safe. 1 million for Ty or 5x that for Henry. Really a no brainer when you already have a Pro Bowl RB in house and we're in the mess we're in cap wise and roster wise.

Why not? He was the NFL's 2nd leading rusher last season. He hasn't fallen off a cliff. It really isn't conceivable. Like I said, Baltimore was ready to trade Draft picks for him last season. They had Gus Edwards and Justice Hill as their RB's and were picking Dalvin Cook off the trash heap. Edwards and Dobbins are FA's now too. If you think Baltimore won't be back around when it won't cost them Draft Picks, I've got a bridge to sell you. I think everyone's looking at just turned 30 and high milage and neglecting to notice he finished the year 2nd in Rushing Yards and another Pro Bowl season. He still looked like Derrick Henry last season.

You are aware that we're ~52m over the cap, with 22 Free Agents, including holes at Starting WR, DE, DT (of which we only have ONE DT under contract), and Safety (maybe both Safety spots if we move on from Poyer), right? Spending ~5m on a RB when we already have a Pro Bowler there is a luxury item we simply cannot afford.

Henry was still running relatively strong last season. Elliott was toast his last year in Dallas. Baltimore had a trade in place for him before the Titans owner nixed it. He's going to have way more offers than Elliott did and they aren't all going to be from non-contenders. And places like Baltimore will make him the guy. Not just a change of pace heavy.

Someone will overplay their hand and fall through the crack in that 2nd tier. That's actually where my head is at. Find a Leonard Floyd type at WR late that is left standing when musical chairs stop, Draft a WR Round 1, and another in like Round 4 or 5.

If Elliott got $3 in the condition he looked on the way out in Dallas, Henry will get at least 4.5-5. Maybe more from a team looking to sell Jerseys and Tickets for having a Superstar on their team. In the condition we're in, we're not going to allocate those kind of funds to a guy who will split carries with Cook. We didn't even do that last season, when Cook was a way bigger question mark than he is now and he we were in a (slightly) better condition cap wise.

Do you still want Hollywood Brown? Because we aren't going to be able to afford that and hand $5m per to Henry. And if we could, then best believe all 3 of the first picks would have to go to the starting position holes at DE, DT, and Safety. There's no scenario where we pay for Henry, Brown, and use 2 of the top 3 Draft Picks on WR. None. And why would Henry want to go to a team that already has a Pro Bowl RB on it? He'd be lucky to even get 50% of the carries here.

This isn't even a question. Ty Johnson was a Practice Squad player who came in because of injury. He overachieved, but people aren't going to back the brinks truck up for an RB2/RB3 former Practice Squad guy who's coming off a decent year in relief work. Derrick Henry on the other hand will sell jerseys and has a resume as the top RB in the NFL, even though he's getting older. In no planet is there a question as to whether or not Ty Johnson is going to remotely cost what Derrick Henry will. One RB is a superstar and one is a vet minimum type.

He'll have a market. He's aging. You don't pay RB's big money. We don't have money. We have too many holes. We already have a Pro Bowl RB1. Should I go on? Bring back Ty Johnson. He'll be cheap. Pair him with Cook and Hines. Draft a RB late on Day 3. We're good there. Spend what little money we'll have finding starters at either WR, DE, DT, or S.

Where did Spotrac say cutting him this offseason would be better than 2025? That doesn't make sense. His contract was written up as essentially a 3 year deal. Our out is after this season. I don't see any way we can get out from under him that would be remotely better for us to do this season. I think there's a number of things at factor there, beyond just the knee. Between the knee not responding as quickly as he was put on the field and then domestic/legal problems on top of it, he was mentally destroyed. One thing that I think was a major factor that doesn't get talked about is on top of that, getting sober. As someone who had issues myself, getting clean has a massive impact on your day to day for a while. You essentially have to re-teach yourself how to live from the ground up. Everything you did while using alcohol and substances as a crutch feels completely different and more difficult without it - both mentally and physically. Something as simple as brushing your teeth or making food feels hard. All the while, you battle the urge to not relapse and the feelings that come with that. All of those things came together at once and we saw the results. Hopefully, being motivated by being counted out by everyone, having time to rehab his knee further, more time to acclimate to sobriety, and getting the legal stuff behind him - we see something closer to 2022 Von next season.

Yeah, Beane's MO is to move up a a few picks if there's someone there he likes and is afraid one of the teams ahead of him are going to select him. He got antsy with both Kaiir Elam and Dalton Kincaid. If he really likes one of the WR's that have fallen to that 24-27 range, he'll make a call to secure them. But he's not moving up any substantial jump. Fans need not even bother thinking about Harrison, Nabers, or Oduze. Any substantial move up's will occur in Rounds 2-7, more likely 3-7. The cost is just too great in Round 1 and we don't have the ammunition.

Nabers or Oduze is a pipe dream. They're universally mocked in the Top 5-10 picks. Them falling would be one on the board at 12-15. The cost to move up even that high would be too great. He's not giving up two 1st's and teams knowing where we pick on a yearly basis, that wouldn't even be enough.
