Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News said a cutout of Mayor Jimmy Griffin was along the 1st base line. He should have been behind home plate with Geddy instead of Andrew Cuomo. (This is not a shot at the governor. Just saying Jimmy Griffin brought baseball back to Buffalo.)

The economics of MLB makes it impossible for a city like Buffalo. And yeah, after the novelty wears off, I can see local fans getting pretty sick of being a farm team for the "haves," losing every good player because you can't afford to sign them. Heck it's true for bigger cities than Buffalo. We are fortunate to have the NFL and NHL here, but can't realistically afford much more. So I'm going to enjoy this one fluke season. The Jays fit right in with that bullpen. They can't hold a lead.

So just for argument sake, you have 6 northeastern schools that want to play: Syracuse, UB, Boston College, Rutgers, Pitt and Penn State. Could they create a one-off conference and play 10 games? Could they find some last- minute TV money?

It's a double whammy. UB had two big payday games again Kansas State and Ohio State. (I bet they would have beat KSU.) Like Kirby said, this was going to be a big big year for the Bulls. There was even some chatter about RB Jaret Patterson being on the Heisman watch list.
