Kirksey signing with the Bills PS
Sierra Foothills replied to ndirish1978's topic in The Stadium Wall
This reminds me of an old Vince Lombardi-Paul Hornung story. After a bad loss in which the Packers were outplayed in every phase, an angry Lombardi was intent on denigrating his team. Lombardi: (Holding up a football) "Gentlemen, this is a football." Hornung: "Hey coach, can you slow down a bit?" -

He is attractive but can we restrict the discussion to football please? -
Especially with 2 page threads, you should read through before posting... so others don't have to repeat themselves. The Niners starting QB Brock Purdy was Mr. Irrelevant... the 262nd and final pick of the 2022 draft. Also the Niners have 8 players ranked in the NFL Network's Top 100 players, most in the league. Knowledgeable league followers don't question what a great job Lynch/Shanahan have done building that roster. The Trey Lance pick doesn't negate the rest of their work. The five teams most commonly chosen to win the Super Bowl are the Chiefs, Eagles, Bengals, Niners, and Bills.

Right now the Bills have one pick in every round except the 6th where they have 3 picks. Was he playing "Ship, Captain, Crew?" Another scenario is that Beane trades a fringe player for a draft pick and then package draft picks for a player. In the preseason, Beane has traded guys like Cardale Jones, Kevon Seymour, AJ McCarron, Marshall Newhouse, Wyatt Teller, Russell Bodine, Darryl Johnson, and Cody Ford. He's better than most GMs at getting picks for players that aren't going to make the final roster. -
Yes. In this small sample size opinion poll he's ranked 4th Best GM overall and 5th Best Talent Evaluator. I disagree with @BADOLBILZ comment that being a schyster is a better trait than integrity for a GM. As an NFL GM you're gonna be dealing with the same people over and over. If they don't trust you they're not gonna do business with you. If they don't do business with you you're not gonna be effective in your job.

Thanks for doing this... I know it's a lot of work but for some people, also a lot of fun. Will you be doing player or unit grades? Thanks again. -

Sorry about that. That makes a lot more sense. 🤣 -
Who was the staring O-line group today?
Sierra Foothills replied to Mooshocker12's topic in The Stadium Wall
Or "McClappy." -
Then we could hire Davis Webb to coach him. The oddity of the joke is that it's the Baltimore Ravens, not the New England Patriots who have benefitted the most in their use of the compensatory picks "Ralph is cheap" Which would effectively accomplish what? Wouldn't that just give another draft pick to the Patriots? "I've heard of him!" Who gets the compensatory draft pick then? Hmmm... Beane might be reluctant to make that call. As has been pointed out, that would be an invitation for Nick Caserio to bluff Beane and then Beane would have to decide whether to call his bluff. Or is it a bluff? Could we simply trade a draft pick to Houston in exchange for them NOT cutting Keenum?

The NFL trade deadline is around week 8 which means you play at least half your gams without the player you traded away. As everyone seems to agree that there's a huge hole at MLB, it doesn't seem like it would have been a good idea to trade away your starting MLB when you haven't made the playoffs... to say nothing about how far you would advance if you did make them. This was a team gunning for the Super Bowl. It's a pipeline, not a pipe. What are you smoking. 🙃 -
Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-season game 3
Sierra Foothills replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
What hasn't really been proven is the bolded... which is not the same thing as saying I don't believe the theory... it just hasn't been proven by any known studies. If you make the argument that high ceiling/low floor guys have the same success rate as high floor/low ceiling guys, then it obviously makes a lot more sense to draft the former. Furthermore if you accept the above notion it then can be argued that even if the success rate is a BIT higher for high floor/low ceiling guys it still makes sense to draft high ceiling/low floor guys. -

I would really have to see what the data outcomes are for the 54th overall pick in the NFL draft is before I called Epenesa a bust. -

Yes they have been poor this preseason but color me unconcerned. As @GunnerBill mentioned at 83 players there's a combo of avoiding injuries and seeing where fringe players fit in. A lack of cohesiveness in special teams is common across the league in the preseason. No one's mentioned how good Harty looked yesterday on his 3 punt returns. He didn't break any but you could see his fearlessness, elite agility, and vision upfield. If he has that role and stay healthy he's gonna be an excellent punt returner. He's averaged almost 10 yards per return over his career. Harty also looked good from scrimmage. IF he stays healthy which is a legit concern, I'm pretty sure he's going to outproduce and outplay what Isaiah McKenzie gave us last year. People on this board overreact to everything the Bills do. I was also glad to see the resurrection of the short passing game. Contrary to belief, Josh Allen is a very accurate short thrower. He can flick his wrist and place balls horizontally very effectively. His completion percentage went down last year (adding to the myth that he's not an accurate thrower) because of the throws he was trying to make on a constant basis. I still don't know if Dorsey doesn't reign Josh in enough or if Josh has too much leash or if they're both fixated on the big strike but this offense needs to use the horizontal Brady-type game more to open up the throws downfield. Overall they'd be a much more effective offense with a little more restraint. -
Congratulations @JakeFrommStateFarm!!!

Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-season game 2
Sierra Foothills replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm as concerned about the OT situation as anyone is. That said most fans have a tendency to overreact (i.e. - Barkley is better than Kyle Allen) so there's certainly a chance that the OT play will round into form by opening day and that we're overreacting in the moment.. As for the MLB situation I'm still not that concerned because I think they'll either scheme an adequate answer or maybe come up with a personnel solution. I do feel like Taylor Rapp or Dorian Williams will somehow be a part of the answer. What I'm actually very concerned about right now is how poorly the Bills interior D-linemen looked against Pittsburgh. DaQuan played well last year but he seemed to have a poor outing on Saturday. Ed Oliver... well he's Ed Oliver... a player with clear strengths and weaknesses. Settle played through some injuries last year and the jury is out on him. Jordan Phillips is recovering from injury. When he's healthy he's an asset but will he become more dependable as he gets older? And is it possible that Poona Ford is a declining player? Their play against the Steelers was disheartening and if the interior D-line can't play at an above average level, it won't matter much who's playing MLB for the Bills. I also wonder how well the D-line is coached. It seems like the interior guys often lose containment in making vain attempta at applying pressure and this habit of not being in front of the QB opens passing lanes. If they're not going to apply pressure then they should settle for keeping the QB in the pocket and keeping their hands in the passing lanes. Pickett looked like he was doing 7 on 7 drills. His throw to the TE to beat Milano was made easy by the failure of the D-line. -
Dwayne Haskins killed [Edit: struck by vehicle]
Sierra Foothills replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm not absolving Haskins of personal responsibility in his own death but obviously (thanks Marrone), the partial settlements indicate that the plaintiff lawyer's allegations had/have some merit.
