Shanahan is such an incredible play-caller. You can’t teach his intuition for the game.

I think it’s fair to question both decisions. To be honest, I don’t mind the 3rd down play call. What I do mind is rushing to snap the ball just as the play clock is about to expire. Call timeout and get everyone settled. Kicking the field goal (into the wind), is a recipe for disaster. It worked out, but we could have easily been called for PI at the 3 yard line and then we may all be thinking differently about kicking that field goal. I think prime Brady & Belichick go for 4th down there.

Cam Lewis almost had the same situation. He bit on the underneath route and left Marvin Harrison Jr wide open for what would have been the go-ahead TD.

Yeah… It’s shocking how many posters on this forum haven’t figured this out yet. It’s not rocket-science why he isn’t playing. He is a bust of a first round pick.

I have never played DB, so I am talking from a position of ignorance. But is it really that hard to turn around when you see the player put his hands up? Every week there are unnecessary PI’s when a defender is in position but simply does not turn around. I understand when they’re beat badly and just want to prevent the catch - but when you are right on the guy, what is preventing you from simply turning toward the QB when the receiver is clearly waiting for the ball with his hands up?

Not only is Deshaun Watson terrible now, he is also impossible to cut.

This is part of the problem. Allen makes incredible, mind-boggling plays like this so routinely that it becomes “typical”. When everything is extraordinary, the level required to gain favor becomes astronomical. The bar for impressing others skyrockets. It’s not fair, but it is what it is. It is the burden of being an absolute superstar.
