Consider Belichick's experience - he spent half a decade as a head coach without significant success until Brady joined his team, leading him to multiple Super Bowl victories. Similarly, Reid had a coaching career spanning two separate decades, with two separate teams, before Mahomes came onboard and won him two Super Bowls. Bill Walsh's was fortunate in that his first year as a head coach was Joe Montanas first year as a player. However, Montana proved who the real winner was when he won a Super Bowl with George Seifert after Walsh retired. It's the QB. It is always the QB. That's not to say that coaches are unimportant. Where the head coach comes into play is in the minutiae of decision making during critical plays and playoff games.

Your post brought a different topic to mind. A subject that isn't frequently discussed is McDermott's hiatus from calling plays and orchestrating a complete defensive game plan. Can we genuinely expect him to perform at the same level as Carolina, having left his craft untouched for almost ten years? We are going on 7 years since he last called a full game. Remember, some folks struggled to find the break room after returning to the office after two years of Covid-related absence. McDermott, on the other hand, hasn't exercised his aptitude for calling defensive plays for six long years.

Bingo. I posted this before but I think it expands on exactly what you are saying the last page or two: For nearly twenty years, the objective was to achieve "playoff quality". Today, however, that status is a given. It is the baseline. Reaching the playoffs is no longer a measure of distinction for a Bills coach. It is the bare minimum. With a top 3 QB in Josh Allen, playoffs have become an expectation. In some instances, the coach who reinvigorates a franchise, lifting it from obscurity, is not the same coach who can guide a team to its pinnacle - a championship. These are, after all, distinct skill sets. The former requires the ability to unify a franchise, to foster a new culture, and to motivate. Meanwhile, a championship coach needs tobe a brilliant strategist, adept at navigating the complexities of in-game decisions, and able to outwit the other sideline. These capabilities can coexist in one individual, but sometimes, they're embodied by two separate individuals. I see McDermott as an exceptional 'team-flipper'. Just as a house flipper can transform a derelict property into a lucrative investment, McDermott possesses the instinctive ability to revitalize an NFL franchise and imbue it with respectability. However, we've observed that McDermott, despite his commendable skill as a team-flipper, hasn't displayed the same proficiency in the playoffs. In high-stakes situations, when absolute precision is demanded, and outsmarting the opposing team is crucial, he hasn't fully met the challenge. Is that going to suddenly change? I have my doubts.

He is great motivator (like McD), a tough bastard (like Belichick), and has shown (numerous times) that he can stymie the Chiefs offense in the playoffs. Including absolutely blanking Mahomes in the second half of last years AFCCG, in one of the best defensive efforts i've ever seen. Hiring Anarumo: 1) Helps the Bills. 2) Hurts the Bengals. 3) Hurts the Chiefs. It's a win/win/win. It's not as sexy of a pick as hiring an offensive mind, but we let our offensive mind go to the Giants, so... Anarumom would be my pick. PS, as much as I am down about McD's chances to win a championship, I would shake his hand and thank him for all he has done for the franchise. He is a large part of the reason that we are no longer a joke around the NFL. He established a culture in Buffalo and brought credibility back to this franchise. He deserves serious praise for what he has accomplished. When we win a ring with another coach, I believe McD should get a ring as well, because without him setting the groundwork and building the foundation, the eventual ring would never have happened.

There is a good chance that the Eagles would still be Super Bowl less if they had kept Andy Reid. Reid has 2 Super Bowl's now because of Patrick Mahomes. One of the best QB's to ever play the game. Billy Bob Thornton could win a Super Bowl with Patrick Mahomes.

A stadium opening is actually the perfect time to fire an old coach and hire a new one. New coaches (new hope) boost ticket sales.

This is true. What many people view as “smart” is context-dependent. You see it in this thread - posters speaking of the people they know that excel in their specific fields of expertise. They don’t consider the core of what intelligence truly is. The ability to reason logically, the ability to analyze and synthesize information, their processing speed, quantitative ability, emotional regulation, problem-solving, the ability to tap into (and ignore) collective intelligence and group think, the ability to innovate, memory, etc. Whereas domain-specific intelligence is in actuality the ability to simply learn and recall specific subject material and implement it in their daily work. It’s not always the same. It is for this reason why there is no shortage of stupid PhD’s.

Florio is fantastic if you understand what he is. He isn't in the business of delivering news. He is in the business of giving hypotheticals and explaining all possibilities - including possibilities that may never happen. Florio is the best in the business at breaking down contracts, analyzing legal matters, etc.

Your post may be a movie/social reference I don't understand since I am a bit autistic, but on the chance that it is not, i'd like to advocate for donating to a childhood hunger cause as well. Whenever donations are mentioned, feeding America and similar (better) organizations are rarely mentioned. But there is hardly a better cause than making sure children do no go hungry.
