oh absolutely...i am certainly not in favor of that, unless of course it is a musical style that lends itself towards that, punk etc...but i know and expect that going in

and that is precisely the reason i DON'T gravitate towards classical, i enjoy the variations, the slight nuances, the mistakes, the grit, the experimentation...listen to the counting crows do 'mr. jones' live....almost unrecognizeable, at first, from the record version...that's what i like, also what i love about the jam bands...always something new to listen for

i think we may be using wrong words....i think sloppy may be being used as an opposite to the 'perfection' of bands like steely dan where you go see them live and it's almost as if you are listening to the original recording. I am hoping that sloppy is being used to mean gritty, spontaneous(a good word you chose). That is how i am choosing to interpret what some are saying as sloppy, if not then nevermind then you are doing just that, 'hearing', not 'listening'...way more to it than that...

i still think Miss Gradenko is one of my favorite Police songs...something about the syncopation and the tempo of it, then all of a sudden the vocal harmonies...god i love that song and the only reason i can even stomach bruno mars and gotye's 'somebody i used to know' is the 'sting sound', otherwise that would go in the pile with the other crap like led zepplin.....huh? what???? (not a led zepplin fan at all, but goodness gracious i would never call them overrated)
