Yes Kevin, there were some positive. Still very painful to blow this game when we had the win within striking distance 4 times and came away with nothing.

Say what you want, they showed heart today.

You titled your thread: "Say what you want, they showed heart today". I said what I want. Looks like what you really meant: "Don't say anything that does not agree with me, because I am an internet wise guy". -

Captain Obvious schooled Captain Cliche. -
I have to thank the KC coaching staff for holding themselves to 13 points. Why did they ever throw a pass? Our defense is very bad. Kyle Williams is all we have.

I see a lot of posters are happy, and even satisfied, just to see the Bills in a close game. I am very frustrated by the past two weeks and I find no solace in losing close games. When the reason we lose is stupid mistakes it is not good enough. I expect many posters to disagree but the play calling and the game management at the end of the 4th Q and in OT was lousy. We could have run the ball and got Lindell closer on his missed FG attempt. Just 4 to 5 yards would have been enough to do it. First and 10 on their 40 and we pass, and it gets picked. Ouch. First and 10 on their 42 and we pass. Second and ten on their 42 and we pass. Third and 10 on their 42 and we pass, with an empty backfield, and get penalized for intentional grounding. Note to Chan – our line does not block well enough to run the spread offense with an empty backfield as much as we did. We got burned by it when it counted the most. We simply need to get a few yards, run the clock down, and avoid negative plays. Not saying run on every down but passing on every down in KC territory was stupid. Chan – the verdict is still out on you. The offense is getting better but your game management is not impressive. Buddy – please do not sleep when free agency starts next year. We need lots of better players

I agree 100%. Not to mention the INT or the sack/grounding penalty that killed any chnce to rty to win. Horrible play calling. Calling passes with an empty backfield and our O-line is dangerous and we paid for it today.

Enough of the "they showed heart" posts. THEY CHOKED in so many ways today. KC IS NOT a very good team. The defense DID NOT leave it all on the field. They DID NOT generate a turnover. They DID NOT stop the run. The O line DID NOT leave it all on the field. The DID NOT pass protect when we needed it. Lindell DID NOT make the winning kick. Moorman DID NOT make a good kick when we needed it. Fitz DID NOT have a good game. Spiller DID NOT make an impact. The coaching staff DID NOT make good decisions. Just because the score was close DOES NOT mean you saw potential. I refuse to be happy about losing. It sucks, and it always sucks. -
I am psurprised KC passed at all. They could have ran for 350 yards with ease.

I agree. I try not to rail on him but today Kelsay was just so lousy that it hurt to watch him. Same for Whitner.

9 offensive snaps in OT from inside the KC 45
Bob in STL replied to bills44's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Totally disagree about OT. How many shots at winning the game did we have? Answer = ZERO. Everytime we got close to a FG we went one dimensional and we passed on every down. -
Two tackles and a TE would help. Cornell Green is hurt and was lousy. Kirk Chambers was rightfully cut. Jamon Meredith played himself right out of the NFL. Leaving us with Cordero Howard, a UDFA guard playing right tackle. That is how bad the FO screwed up the off season. I sure hope Nix does not sleep through next years free agency.

Yes, they were signed to play the 3-4 and their help has been marginal so far. The Bills scrapped the 3-4. As a DC, Edwards is a rookie and he need to do doing more to help his players get to the QB. Canning him and promoting an assistant is not the answer. If they do replace him, lets bring in an experienced DC with a track record of sucess.
-
Lets keep this simple. 1. They lost their best player - Schobel 2. The coaching is much worse - Fewell vs. Edwards 3. Mostly the same personnel as last year and that defense was also last in rushing yards alowed 4 Marginal help from free agents (Edwards and Davis); even less help from the draft (Troup, Carrington, Moats, Batten) 5. Players playing out of position - Kelsey, Williams, Stroud, Ellis (now cut), Mitchell (now released) 6. No production from #1 picks - McCargo and Maybin 7. No pressure on the QB - (see 1 though 6 above)

The Worst Decade of Drafting In NFL History?

Are there any "hidden gems" on this defense???
Bob in STL replied to DUFF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kyle Williams is a solid player. The jury is still out on Troup, and Carrington is an unknown. LB is lacking in talent. We have nothing. I do not see Moats as anything more than special teams. I still hope he develops. In the secondary the top prospects are McKelvin and Bryd. Neither are "hiddden gems" since they are high drfat picks. We had some but we let one go to New Orleans and other one plays for the Jets. Overall it looks like slim pickins' on defense. That could be why we give up 34 points per game? -
Remi Prudhomme is deceased also. I don't think Die Hard 1967 is Howard Kindig. We discussed who he is this summer. I will keep it a secret to protect him from future harassment. I think I may have met Die Hard at a Church Fund Raiser, back on the West Side. I met Al Bemiller and Joe O'Donnell. Back in the late 60's and early 70's these guys came to small local events for free as guest speakers. That was a great era. Better than today in many aspects.

Thankfully, these Chiefs do not have Lenny Dawson, Otis Taylor, Mike Garrett, Buck Buckanon, Willie Lanier or Bobby Bell. Bills 30 - Chiefs 27. -

If we do this .... 1. RUN 2. STOP the RUN 3. Put pressure on Cassel 4. Stop all the turnovers -
Williams (OT), Patulski (DE), Gant (TE) and Cowlings (DE)all played and started. They were just not very good. Gant had a couple of good games but was very inconsistent overall. Tony Hunter (TE) played for a little bit but accomplished little. Cousineau (LB) - at least he played in the NFL and was worthy of a pick. The worst picks are the guys that never got on the field and faded out of the league after their first contract: Phil Dokes (DT), Booker Moore (RB), Tom Rudd (LB), Perry Tuttle (WR), and Eric Flowers (DE) top the list. John McCargo (DT) is all set to join this group. Maybin (DE/LB) could be destined to as well. The list is long and it is littered with defensiuev linemen too.
-
If they beat the Chiefs will you start a thread on them going to the playoffs?
-
Should the Bills go lighter at DE?
Bob in STL replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. Draft guys that are going to be good football players in the NFL. Draft guys that are animals and absolutely hate to lose. Do you think for a minute that Ray Lewis was going to tolerate losing the game on Sunday? Too much emphasis on measurables and schemes is what got us in trouble. -
Aaron Maybin is playing out of position
Bob in STL replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree. Look at London Fletcher. He is smaller than Maybin, went undrafted out of John Carroll College, yet he has been in the NFL for 13 years without ever missing a game. Coaches love him because he brings it. He has been a captain on every team he was on. He had a SB ring, pro bowls, 1000-ish tackles and lots of big plays. I look at Maybin and I don't see anything.
