I have moved on long ago. That is probably why I thought he quit rather than got fired. Seems like ages ago to me.
-
That is true. When we had great teams it was fun listening to people trying to knock us off. No one follows the Bills or cares about them. Last week in Florida I ran into an old friend and all he said about the Bills was "what is going on up there?".

I guess I have seen enough, the Carucci article has the most crediiblity with me. I was not trying to defend anyone. Read my original post. Just looking for some facts. Sure. Continue to blast away.

They say fired. Thanks for the nice reference. With no one talking I am not sure we know. I recall at the time he said he quit.

Make sense to me. Stay in school. I think they should all stay in school for that matter.

I just read two more post that said that "Ralph fired Polain". That makes it the 1,789,357th time I have read this on TSW. My recollection is that Polian quit. Ralph did not fire him and Ralph did not want ask him to quit. I seem to recall this sequence of events: 1. While working as GM for Buffalo, Polian was a member of a committee put together by then commissioner Paul Tagliabue to help establish rules for the free agency/ salary cap situation that was coming into place. Polian was trying to lock up all the important Bills players to long term deals to prevent losing his team to free agency. He signed Cornelius Bennett to a lucrative deal even though he still had years on his contract. He was preparing to do the same with Will Wolford when Littman intervened. 2. Littman and Polian did not get along very well. Polian used to delight in blowing him off. The two feuded often and put Wilson in the middle of it. In this case Wilson sided with Littman and Wilford was not re-signed during the season. Littman was a long time friend. Ralph blew it. 3. Polian was upset about the interference and he announced he would be leaving after the season. He stayed with the team until after the Super Bowl. He was not fired. 4. Linda Bogdans (Wilsons daughter) role with the club had nothing to do with it. Whether Polian liked her or not was not material. There is a myth on TSW that she was part of the reason that Wilson fired her. I say this is not true. 5. Wilford, now a free agent, signed a monster deal (for the times) with the Colts in the off-season. New Bills GM John Butler matched the offer but the NFL ruled against Buffalo due to the famous escalator clause the Colts put into the offer that the Bills would not match. The clause stated that Wilford would be the highest paid player on the Colts for so many years. That clause was eliminated immediately after the Wilford ruling, partly due to Polian, who took a job working for Tagliabue after he left the Bills. So, I submit that Wilson did not fire Polian. If I am wrong then flame away and tell me what really happened. If I am right then please stop saying that he did. I think it is important that we get this right. Thanks!

Best Defense the Bills EVER had. Better than the Super Bowl defenses. Any funny Sestak stories? I always pictured him as an introvert and a quiet guy that led by example. Many of the 60's players lived on Buffalo and stayed there for many years. Several started business’s in the area.

Bad analogy and tough crap for the players. i have little sympathy for the Bills. This team has such little character, no wonder the guys from the 90's are calling them out. The game is played in a public venue with media scrunity. Ralph is not the first owner, or coach for that matter, to discuss things like this publicly. Did you see what Singletary did to his QB last week in the middle of a game in the home stadium? The players get paid extremely well. Even the marginal bench warmers do. Cornell Green is making millions to jump offsides in the red zone. In a real company the first thing that would happen would be benefits cuts, then pay cuts, then lay-offs. Do you see any players or front office people taking a pay cut?

Funny story. Was that the game that Jim Dunaway scored on a blocked FG attempt?

1 - You won't know if an LT or a Reggie White is there for 4-5 years after the draft, maybe more. You are talking Hall of Fame players. 2 - Please don't use Ngata in the same example. He has a long way to go to get to the level of Reggie White or LT. 3 - Nix has already proved he will not reach for a QB in any round.
-
You did say all those things. You have been doubting all of it from the end of last season.
-
I was thinking the same thing and yes, I find it strange that he can go from starter, to after thought, to cut in five weeks. He played well in the Miami game and then he vanished. Then again, this is the Bills we are talking about.

It will help Bradford and hurt our chances of developing a QB. Trading Evans will leave another massive hole. Knowing our FO we will trade Lee for a 3rd rounder and then spend a #1 drafting his replacement. (See Henry, McGahee, Lynch and Spiller).

In this great new defense that Byrd gets to line up 30 yards deep and watch the game from the field level. Seriously, he is playing so deep that he is no longer a factor in any of the plays. This is especially evident in the red zone when he plays behind all the opposing WRs and TEs and watches them catch TD passes. Whitner is also too deep and has been late in support on many critical plays. This did not happen last year. The way the safeties are being used is a factor as is the obvious lack of pass rush.

Wouldn't be shocked to see George Edwards fired this week.
Bob in STL replied to Cuze's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Edwards will survive until the season is over. After that the Bills should look to improve all position, including coaching staff. We played a 4-3 against the Jags and it did not help. Prior to that we had been playing the 4-3 a lot. Are defense is bad for these reasons: 1 - We have the worst LBs in the league. None of them can rush the passer like a 3-4 requires; and none of them can cover like a 3-4 requires. They are very poor in any alignment. 2 - We have a very weak DL. They believe that Kelsey is their best so there you go. Stroud is at the end of the road. Edwards is not a pass rusher. Kyle Williams is a solid role player at best. There is no bench strength as Troup and Carrington are learning. Spencer and McCargo will be cut next year and out of football for good. 3 - Secondary - a good unit that suffers from no pass rush. I also see a difference in the play of the safeties this year. They are very deep and always late to the play. Byrd is playing so deep that he is never in the play and as a result has no pics. Byrd and Whitner have been horrid in the red zone as they play deep in the end zone and watch opposing reciever catch TDs. I think you can blame the new coaches for this aspect of bad play. -
Anyone opposed to trading Stroud?
Bob in STL replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure. Lets stockpile 7th rounders. That will show everyone we are serious! -
The 85 Bills had a decent OL and a decent DL. The QB position was horrid as was rthe coaching.

Good to here. Would like to see some positve impact from this draft class.

Bills will no longer be laughed at.
Bob in STL replied to djsabres's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You do not know what your talking about. The Bills will not be sold cheaply. Here is why: 1 - The teams record will have NOTHING to do with with its sale price. Why would he even consider selling it cheap. Los Angeles and Toronto are both sitting there without an NFL team? 2 - The economy will have nothing to do with its sale price. Who ever buys the team will have more money than you can ever imagine. NFL Owners must approve any sale of an NFL team and they will make sure that the new ownership is loaded, is low risk, and will put a team in a market that will expand EVERYONE'S share. -
Whitner, not Witner, played the run well today. He was still woeful in pass coverage. Yet another opposing TE feasted on his inability to support long pass plays over the middle. I will agree with your point that there are many players on Buffalo's defense worse at their positions than Whitner.
-
Positives? You can sure tell when Troup was out there. The Jags must have averaged 10 yards per carry instead of the normal 5. Carrington? Was there a Carrington sighting? Steve Johnson - not impressed. Still slow. Still cuts off his pattern too soon. Still had drops at key times. He had a killer penalty in the red zone. Ok -- he dd make a very nice TD catch but really, this guy is maybe a number 4 wideout on a decent team. I saw two positives: 1 - Fred Jackson 2 - We are at a bye week.

Where are all the Jason Peters and Langston Walker Haters?
Bob in STL replied to PDaDdy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They fire Tom Donahoe and hire Marv Levy (no FO experience) and Russ Brandon (marketing guy with no Football experience) to run the team. Marv leaks out that he really prefers to coach. For several years it is apparent that no one is really at the controls, especially on draft day. Marv quits with one year still on his contract and is not replaced ... Brandon and Jauron "take over". Jauron is given a new contract after 3 straight 7-9 seasons. Jauron falls out of favor after his team blows a 5-1 start. Nest season ... It was a complete joke that Dick Jauron's rag-tag offense was even going to try to run the no-huddle as their primary offense. They cut Walker and then cut the OC, just one week before the first game. Jauron is evcentually purged. After Jauron they start a campaign for a new GM and hopefully a revamped FO. Wilson hires a well known scout from within the ranks because he "didn't recognize any of the other names". Next they did an "all out coaching search" but all the poor fans ever heard about is all of the coaches that turned down interviews. They media has been blasting the Bills since the removal of Tom Donahoe but look at the circus that they see. The Bills deserve the bad press, but the fans do not. -
OK, before we get into the revisionist history

He is right about a lot of things. Unfortunately everything he says has been covered 1000 times before. No summary and no ideas. -
Bills Front office needs to show some action
Bob in STL replied to Chuckknox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"work the phones?" So who makes trades in the season? Look at what New England does. They just traded Randy Moss. Before that it was Seymore. Before that is was somebody else. They have 2 picks in the each of the first four rounds next year. They will retool and possibly win the division at the same. We do not need to bring in other teams cast offs. Lets stock pile draft picks and then do something novel like draft good players.
