A Few Thoughts about Washington Game, in no particular order

Oh geez -
The ball hit an invisible wall in the sky and honestly looked like it started to come back towards the kicker. It was bizarre.

You know that feeling when you think you left your phone somewhere while out shopping? There's a little bit of panic and self doubt as you wonder where you could have left it and you start strategizing how you will track it, recover your photos, convince the store it was stolen so you warranty covers it, yadda yadda yadda. After hours of internal self-scrutiny, you reach your hand into your other pocket and find it, realize that only second have passed, and that wave of assurance rushes over you. You remember that your other hand was full of groceries at the time, so you put it in the abnormal pocket, and there was never any real cause for concern in the first place. Ladies and Gentlemen, Josh was simply in the other pocket. 1 - Our Quarterback - Josh took a few steps back, looked downfield, then checked to the swing, before firing a bullet over Motor's head. 70 thousand fans all sighed and accepted that today was going to be more of the same from Allen today and hopefully the defense is still up to the task. And then, just as quickly as that feeling grew, it was over. Josh was back, and Josh was brilliant. Josh was making throws on the run, across his body, while being tackled and all of them right on the money. He showed touch on the deep ball, didn't throw into coverage unless only our guy could get it, and as many fans have said, brought 2020 Josh out again. His best throw of the day was incomplete and largely due to the wind, which even affected long snaps to the punter. Diggs broke free deep and Allen made the throw as soon as he saw the safety break. As he threw it, Josh was off his feet while getting tackled high and low by two defenders. The wind caught the ball in the air and drifted it away from Diggs. Had the wind not been there, I personally believe Diggs makes that catch and Josh breaks the rules of physics again because no quarterback should be able to make that throw. For me, I was back to counting on one hand all the throws he missed, watching him dance around incoming defenders with ease, and expecting every single throw to be a solid gain. And with Josh coming back to form, all his receivers came back with him. 2 - Knox - For a player so up and down, it's hard to feel comfortable ever declaring him "fixed." However, if there were a game for that, this is it. Knox was an absolute stud on the field in every capacity as a tight end. He blocked well, he found space well, he showed good hands, and he made a ridiculous catch from Allen that showed trust in the throw, field awareness, and just overall domination of a defender. More impressively to me is where Knox was lined up. Daboll did a great job of putting Knox on the line as a blocker and mixing up his routes versus blocks. Knox would have two hands on the ground most plays, then sneak down the seem. The touchdown was the little extra that makes you understand why Josh and the coaching staff keep giving him a chance. 3 - Daboll - Many, including myself, have criticized Daboll's ability to mix in a rushing attack without neutering the passing attack. Against Washington, Daboll seemed to find that mix perfectly. The rushes came out of multiple formations and he effectively rotates Motor and Moss to utilize their strengths. Motor wasn't overly impressive, but wasn't a hindrance. Moss made the most of his carries and catches and also showed why the coaches leaned more his way at the end of last season. I still hope they keep the rotation as they have different skill sets. For the second straight week, the second level blocking was on point. For a Washington Defense that is claimed to be very good this year, they had absolutely no answer for Daboll's game plan. 4 - When she couldn't hold she folded A dissident is here Escape is never the safest path Oh, a dissidence, a dissident is here, oh! 5 - The Hiccup - I don't know what else to call the 14 points scored by Washington before half. They called a screen to the weak side just as we called a heavy blitz to the strong side. This left Gibson with a wall of blockers, few defenders in front of him, and speed to get him the whole way. Then, as if the wind wasn't obvious, no one noticed the ball almost spin backwards above the 10 on the following kickoff, allowing Washington to recover a very elaborate onside kick. Washington capitalized on the field position and made it a one score game. However, Josh got the ball back, kept working his magic, let Bass boom a monster field goal before half, and we never looked back. I call it a hiccup because this game was completely dominated by the Bills. If you remove that screen pass, Heinicke wouldn't have eclipsed 100 yards passing until the 4th quarter. This was a game that ended on the first drive, but the hiccup just made it seem close for a moment. 6 - Pass Rush - While there are so many things to focus on in this game, I would feel remiss to not address our season trend of a dominant pass rush. Washington was able to neutralize our front 4 in this game, but we did manage to move the pocket a little. Credit to Heinicke for being as mobile as he was to avoid the slight pressure we did create. I specifically watched AJ and Groot get sucked up into 1 on 1 blocks with little success. To be clear, our defense was dominant and our front 4 has overall been great, but it felt important to track their progress in their game as I know it's a point of optimism for many. 7 - Williams - With four 1st round picks on the Washington defensive line and Chase Young being one of them, I was curious to see how our blocking assignments would go. Apparently, eat your Wheaties and do your job was the plan. Williams was a monster at right tackle and looked to be assigned to handle Young all by himself most of the game. Young was able to get some momentum to the backfield, but Williams was able to direct his movement well. Josh's jersey stayed clean all game and it was massively thanks to Williams being able to handle Young, thus allowing the rest of the line to focus on the other guys. This is not to say Dawkins didn't have a great game too, but Williams had the much tougher assignment. 8 - Stepbrothers - The law firm of Hyde and Poyer was open for business in this game as both had great interceptions. Granted, the throws shouldn't have been made in the first place, but they were in position with speed and conviction each time. These guys were all over the field in this game, leading a fantastic effort by the entire secondary. You can see how they feed off each other and Poyer continues to be one of my favorite free agent signings of the last decade. When the front 4 didn't have it today, the secondary said " I got this" and handled business. 9 - Beeeezzzzz - Quietly having a double digit catch day, Beasley was living rent free in the Washington secondary all game. Beasley was an absolute zone killer and consistent safety blanket for Josh, as he had zero issues finding him after making all his reads. Beyond just the bail outs, Beasley had great YAC. In a game where Sanders had two touchdowns and Diggs finally started getting into a rhythm, it was Beasley who seemed like the back breaker against Washington as he kept moving the chains and no one could seem to find him on the field besides Josh. 10 - Edmunds - In a game where everything went well and almost every player seemed to have a highlight reel play, Edmunds was a concern for me again. True to fashion, I am going to stop talking about Edmunds in post game thoughts going forward unless something major occurs. What makes Edmunds stand out to me is big plays everyone around him makes. Milano was great in coverage and you could see him cover his zone, keep the defender in the back of his eye, and make a break if thrown that way to bat it down. Edmunds seems to react to everything without any anticipation. He missed a few tackles and most of Logan Thomas' catches were in his zone. Again, we had a great defensive effort, but I would like to start seeing Edmunds start making some plays that constitute his 5th year option and potential contract extension. The idea of this defense with a play making middle linebacker is absolutely terrifying. There are so many thoughts I couldn't express about this game and I'm relying on a continuation of this dominance going forward to talk about them in the future. I can't say enough about Milano on this team and how happy I am to see 2020 Josh on the field. In a week where the Lions gave the Ravens a tough game (watch the Tucker kick if you haven't already). and the Chiefs lost again, the Bills look good at 2-1 with a strong defense and awakening offense. Go Bills!

Williams should get a game ball for having Chase Young 1 on 1 all game and keeping him overall in check. He got close a few times, but overall a great job

New stadium will have PSLs for season ticket holders

If this is the help support paying for the stadium, does that mean the PSL goes away after it’s built and tickets become available again? 😛. If you’re going to feed me BS, don’t tell me it’s candy -

Predict the Score: WFT at the Bills

Washington 41 Buffalo 12 Bass wins the MVP on offense as Josh and the offense can't punch the ball in. The Washington front 4 wreak havoc on our offensive line and Josh creates multiple turnovers. Heinicke continues his cinderella story and slings the ball all over the field, with Gibson punching a few in as well. McD continues his streak of losses against former mentors and the fanbase implodes at 1-2. -

A Few Thoughts about the Dolphins Game, in no particular order
Virgil replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was a little late today. I got a puppy on Saturday and work was hell. I just haven’t been able to find the time. -
Everyone has the club in their golf bag. You know the one I'm talking about (for me, it's the 7 wood). You are hooking and slicing shots all day and can't quite figure out what's wrong. Then you pull out that one club, crush it down the middle, and all of your clubs magically start to work again. For the Bills and McD, that club is the Miami Dolphins. After a 35-0 beating, one would think that all is right with the world, but confidence still isn't where it was before the season and the offense is the reason why. 1 - AJ Epenesa - The more I write these, the more you'll hear me say "I'm wrong a lot." I'm not willing to declare him a stud just yet, but AJ played one hell of a game. I'm going to talk about the rest of the defense in a moment, but AJ deserved his own thought. I personally believe it's only a matter of time before the NFL makes a rule change because of how he is hitting the quarterback. We saw it in the preseason and we saw it again today. After completely bull-rushing the left tackle, AJ launches his whole body off the ground and destroys the upper half of the quarterback. It's like watching a Madden animation. In a game where everyone on defense seemed to get theirs, that only goes to show just how good AJ had to play to stand out. With Groot also having a good game on the other side, it's hard to not be optimistic about the future of this defensive pass rush unit. 2 - Pass Rush - Seeing a coaching staff recognize flaws in their strategy, make adjustments the next game, and see success, is pretty much every fans dream. The pass rush and pass protection (later) were prime examples of that this week. Not only did AJ and Groot get good pressure on their own, Frazier sent a 5th blitzer on quite a few plays and found success almost every time. And by success, I mean defenders running unabated to the quarterback. This led to the quick exit of Tua and a season high in sacks and pressures. Groot got his first NFL sack and showed great containment speed. Brissett seemed to get hit on every drop back forcing errant throws. If this is a sign of things to come for our pass rush, opposing teams are going to have to make changes quickly. Also, while I like Hughes and Addison, they are becoming more expendable as each game passes. 3 - Pass Protection - After a terrible week one, the Bills increased their blocker projection by sometimes have 7 pass protectors on the field, including Gilly. From this, Allen had more time and we saw a much more effective rushing attack. We still ran our share of spread offense and had some rushes stopped behind the line of scrimmage, but it was a noticeable improvement from the prior week. Allen wasn't running for his life, which creates other questions.... 4 - Oh, dear Dad, can you see me now? I am myself, like you somehow I'll ride the wave where it takes me I'll hold the pain, release me 5 - Thunder and Lightning - When we drafted Moss and Motor showed up to camp leaner than ever, this was the game many fans were hoping for. Motor took one to the house from over 40 yards out. That play was beautiful for many reasons. Motor showed top end speed that he's been lacking since being drafted and the line made some amazing second level blocks to free him. While it didn't happen again in this game, it was production we haven't seen in recent years and showed the lightning capacity. As for Moss, who did get benched for an early fumble, he came on strong towards the end of the game. Moss had two really strong power runs where he turned negative plays into positive gains. His touchdown was a perfect example of his power as well as a later short yardage gain for a first. Like what we saw from Groot and AJ, hopefully this was a sign of great things to come and our play action was much more effective because of it. 6 - Allen/Daboll - Not everything was roses and sunshine in the game, as Josh and the pass game wasn't the main reason behind out 35 points. At halftime, Allen only had 62 passing yards. Last season, I remember being able to count on one hand the amount of uncatchable balls Josh threw. Like the Steelers game, Josh was still missing guys all over the field, even shockingly under-throwing them. He did have a great deep pass early to Sanders, but some would argue it was more of a rope than a soft pass needed for most deep throws. He missed Motor on a swing pass that could have been a solid gain and his interception was behind Diggs. He also should have been picked off for a second time on a poor pass into coverage deep to McKenzie. Pass rush was not a concern, nor was players getting open. Josh simply was missing them. It's concerning two games in a row, but not enough to think he's regressing. We are also still seeing a game plan that utilizes throws to Sanders. For two games in, here is my concern: Are we changing up our scheme and receiver focus just enough to kill the rhythm we had last year. I feel like Sanders is being targeted more than Diggs and Beasley, when that rapport is already established. I would love to see some All-22 reviews, but something is still clearly off. 7 - Special Teams - The jinx was real in this game. Not only did the announcers make a comment about Bass' accuracy, but others (who will not be named) made a prediction about Bass breaking the consecutive FG record. Between the two, it was almost no question that he missed his long field goal attempt. Haack had another punt that almost got blocked, but McKenzie had a few solid returns. Taiwan showed why he earns his spot as a gunner, quickly getting to muffed punt right before halftime. 8 - 4th down - If one thing let to this game to being a shutout blowout, it would be the execution on 4th down. The Bills were great and the Dolphins were far from it. The Dolphins easily could have put up 6 points with field goals as they made it deep into Bills territory a few times. Taron Johnson and Dane Jackson each made huge tackles in the open field to create a turnover on downs and the Bills defense simply found ways to come up big in seemingly every situation. Beyond that, the Dolphins were sloppy with the ball and seemed rattled from the beginning. From the memes and media reaction, it appears we are starting to become their white whale. 9 - Defensive Backs - Like a flashback to 2020, Poyer was all over the field with decisive tackles to players trying to hide and swing out of the backfield. Tre was decent, but still not great. Levi Wallace made a great interception and Taron Johnson seemed to be everywhere. I don't know why the Dolphins kept trying to pick on him, but he made them pay with batted balls and hard hits. While Miami aren't world beaters with their passing attack, our DB's did their jobs well and were a major reason in keeping the Dolphins off the scoreboard. 10 - Milano - Unlike someone else who hasn't shown up after his big payday, Milano was an absolute monster on the field today. While Taron Johnson and AJ were contenders for the defensive MVP of the game, Milano gets it from me. While a beneficiary of the new Frazier "everyone gets a sack" program, Milano showed great speed, wrap up ability. and was all over the field. Milano makes the plays you keep hoping to see from Edmunds. He was in the backfield and covering the outside with speed and conviction. While AJ was great with pressure, Milano was great with everything he did, which is why he gets the nod. 1-1 with two very winnable games coming up. It's a great position to be in and hopefully the offense can find their rhythm during those games. If they do, and the defense continues to perform like this, the NFL is will officially be on notice. Go Bills!!!

I think he could be back on a one year, team friendly deal. We know McD likes his leadership. If Groot does well, there won’t be a justifiable reason to pay him to stay. We have some big contracts potentially coming up. -

I just downloaded the clear app and it was pretty simple. You scan your drivers license, you scan your vaccine card, and you take a selfie. That’s about it. If you have an online medical account, you can sync that too. The clear app works for people in all states. -
