  1. That was a screen play to the L The shovel pass to the R after a L to R sweep motion was NOT in the play Dorsey drew up as an option Bank on it. Oh, My. Where did you find that?
  2. I hear you on the upgrade, but I think that just shows how horrid last week's game was because this ....this was pretty bad. Remember when Eric Wood yelled at Maybin "give back some of that money you ain't *****in' earned? How long until a Bronco yells that at Russ Wilson?
  3. I was actually just thinking about that -- the Chiefs are 4-2 and the Chargers are 4-2 and they don't belong in the same tier by any reasonable measure.
  4. He's had some games where he looked very very good. To be fair I think he is trying to play through a significant rib injury. He may start to feel better in 1-2 more weeks.
  5. Mid-December. Sunday night against.....the Chiefs.
  6. Wouldn't that be NE? The same record, but Dolphins own the H2H tiebreaker at present?
  7. DL maybe not taken care of for as long as you might think. Von Miller of course locked down thru 2027 Rousseau thru 2024 Boogie through 2024 Epenesa through 2023, so just next year DaQuan just through 2023 Tim Settle through 2023 Eddie Oliver has a 5th year option 2023 $10.7M Jordan Phillips just 1 year Now me, I agree with you that we're way overdue for stacking up some OL talent. I'm just pointing out that Beane is probably glancing over at the DL contracts and writing a DL shopping list.
  8. See, this makes total logical sense. The design of the play being a sweep by McKenzie L to R (to draw a man defender with him if it's man, and as "eye candy" to distract the D), followed by a screen to the L, has a logical flow to it. The design of the play being a sweep by McKenzie L to R (to draw the D attention to the R) followed by a shovel pass to McKenzie on the R, does NOT make logical sense. If I'm not mistaken, we've had that screen play blown up several times. I'm wondering if some self-scouting is needed to look for a "tell" opponents are keying on.
  9. A fair viewpoint. Counterpoint would be 1) why was Dak struggling in the opener? I thought it was O-line protection and WR not getting open quickly enough. Has that changed? 2) After Kurt Warner broke his pinky finger, it really impacted him after he returned even though he had supposedly completed rehab in the off season. He struggled with fumbling and it really torpedoed his career in StL. Eventually he adjusted and returned to form playing for the Cardinals. So Dak may come back full of piss and vinegar and ready to rumble, or he may take a bit to adjust.
  10. Sal C posted a little diagram of this play I forget who said it, but after the SF49ers game (in 2020 I think), one of the media members described one of Josh's throws as a "THAT *****IN' GUY!" play. He explained that to a DC, you draw up your defensive play, you call the right play, EVERY PLAYER ON YOUR DEFENSE EXECUTES PERFECTLY - and Josh Allen still throws a completion. It's enough to make a DC throw his clipboard and yell "THAT *****IN' GUY!"
  11. After watching the play again, and listening to McDermott's interview where he was asked about McKenzie, I have a pretty high degree of confidence that was NOT supposed to be a shovel pass to McKenzie or a play where a shovel pass to McKenzie after he crossed the field L to R was an option. For one thing, the flow of the play design makes no sense as a shovel pass to McKenzie. We have "eye candy" to draw the D's attention L to R, then after that, we're going to do a shovel pass to the R? If you want the ball to go to McKenzie, hand it off to him or pitch it to him as he goes past. You can listen to the question about McKenzie and McDermott's answer if you like, it's about 18:40 into his presser from today. McDermott very carefully avoided placing blame for that play, but his comments pretty well indicated to me, what you saw on that play was not what we designed. This part I agree with completely. But at that stage of the game, maybe Josh should have given up on the Josh Allen play.
  12. Not to mention he's got a young kid with him - not sure how old Poyer's daughter Aliyah is, about 6 I think. Probably a happier trip overall if she gets to have a break.
  13. So I was just listening to McDermott's presser About 18:40 in, not an exact transcript Reporter (unsure who): "So you were talking about being in a situation before like 13 seconds and learning from it and adjusting. You know, Isaiah McKenzie has been in spots where he's had struggles before. Tough day for him yesterday, how do you anticipate him responding and what did you see that might have gone wrong for him yesterday?" Coach McD: "Well you know, I think that maybe people see that play in the red zone on the first drive, and I think you have to understand what we were really trying to get done there, number one, and then number two, understand big-picture-wise that he was coming back from a week out with a concussion, it was his first game back, and that takes an adjustment period as well. So we have full confidence in Isaiah, he didn't probably have the production that a lot of people expected him to have, but he's so mentally tough and he's such a big part of our team, we expect him to be back for the Packers game and to play really well." My translation: In the past, McDermott has NOT been shy about laying it out there when he thinks McKenzie has screwed up and needs a talkin' to and a seat on the bench. He also doesn't like to throw any player under the bus publicly (but he's done that with McKenzie, presumably because he thinks it may be helpful there). I think we can conclude with pretty high certainty that the red-zone fumble play was NOT designed to include an option pitch to McKenzie. There were later plays they would like McKenzie to have made, but nothing that McDermott considers blatant goof-up on McKenzie's part. For those who are yearning to see McKenzie in Coach McDermott's Doghouse and replaced by Shakir - I'm sure we'll see Shakir and hopefully more of him as the season goes on, but That Time is Not Yet.
  14. Just caught Poyer on Pat McAfee. He had one driver in the van. Said they stopped at Indianapolis on Fri night after about 7 hrs, drove about 7 hrs to KC the next day. Since he was still on the road talking to McAfee, they may have overnighted somewhere last night as well. 1 guy could do it if it's done in two chunks. Sometimes these companies will cut the sports team or star a break, too - "Charter Service for the Buffalo Bills" "As Flown by Josh Allen" etc
  15. I certainly understand your point that 9-7 may not be enough. Wasn't in 2014 or 2004 for the Bills and yeah, some years 10-6 teams have missed. I'm not sure I buy that the Giants will be #3 in the NFCE. Are you counting on the Cowboys to "cowboy up"? They have a good defense, but I haven't been impressed at all with their offense. I don't think Cooper Rush is good enough to get them there, but I also think their offense looked very unfocused in the game with Dak. So we'll see. Worth noting the Giants have 2 games over every team in the NFCW and NFCS Well, we only saw him for 1 game. But I thought he didn't look sharp. Maybe it was their O-line. 'Course any player can have a bad play or series of plays or a bad game.
  16. So I had a peak at the Giants schedule. If we assume they lose to the Seahawks, to the Cowboys again, to the Eagles x 2, to the Vikings, and maybe 1 other team, they would finish 10-6 or 9-7 and make the playoffs as a WC team. Kind of similar to what McDermott did with the Bills his first season. Keep in mind Joe Schoen is probably very much a Brandon Beane diciple. In that mold, he thinks culture change is important, and he's likely willing to wheel and deal in the draft to get whoever they want at QB. So Schoen and Daboll may be aligned in thinking culture is of equal or greater importance than draft position. A new coach who needs to find key franchise players has sort of a paradox, doesn't he? He wants to win enough to change the culture to one where guys go hard all the time all season long and don't "phone it in", but not TOO much so as to give them too high a draft position. 9 or 10 wins and a possible WC playoff berth are probably just right.
  17. Yeah, Wink was the "fall guy" for a disappointing season in 2021, and his departure seems to have made an uncharacteristically poor Harbaugh defense, and made it worse (or at least...not improved it).
  18. One of the things I thought was remarkable was Daboll's growth as a communicator during his time here. If you go back and watch his pressers his first season vs. 2020 or 2021, you can see the growth. I personally think McDermott may have sent him to Dale Carnegie or something - Dick Vermeil is said to have urged all his assistants to go so that wouldn't be too strange. But I think while he's clearly got the team inspired and believing, a lot of Daboll's success comes with recruiting a top DC in Wink Martindale and a QB coach who was primed for the OC opportunity in Mike Kafka.
  19. I can't find it, but someone posted that Allen had said something similar to what McKenzie said. In any event, just from a play design perspective - so far, Dorsey's plays make sense in the way they're designed. You have the L to R sweep to pull a defender with him if it's man coverage and sell the defense that McKenzie has the ball, as distraction from a designed screen to the L. As you say, it would make more sense and be more plausible as a play design than a play that featured McKenzie running across the formation L to R to attract attention and then Josh looking L and taking a step as though he were going to pull it and run, and then throwing it behind him to the R (where you just tried to get the defense's attention to go) Early in the game when a sideline reporter caught McDermott and asked his thoughts, I believe I heard something to the effect we've done some good things and the offense needs to settle down a bit and find its groove, which would make sense in the above scenario.
  20. Here is a diagram of the TD throw to Knox Allen is quoted about: That throw is just .......
  21. I don't think you can release a suspended player any more than an injured player, but I'm not sure - maybe you can? In any case, he wasn't getting paid and he wasn't taking up a roster spot while suspended, so no reason for the Bills not to keep him while they answered the question "do we still have a role for this guy with Bernard and Spector on the roster, and Joe Giles-Harris on the PS?" And the answer seems to be "no, thank you for your service and we're moving on"
  22. ? Smith has been suspended. He hasn't been on the 53 man roster nor taken up a spot.
  23. https://theathletic.com/3700182/2022/10/16/panthers-robbie-anderson-sideline-argument/?source=emp_shared_article Anderson says he's just an innocent victim of circumstance: Apparently Anderson was kind of a "Coaches Pet" to Matt Rhule:
