The Worthy Trade Keeps Looking Worse and Worse
Generic_Bills_Fan replied to Bills Costa Rica's topic in The Stadium Wall
I really think they should’ve traded up for fautanu in 2024…the worthy pick is still so odd to me but it could work out in the aggregate if he’s great. It almost feels like Suamataia wasn’t their guy but they got stuck with him at their real position of need thinking someone else would be available…he was such a project type guy and there was a good chance he didn’t work out. They haven’t really been hitting on their picks to shore up the trenches on either side of the ball and it’s starting to show. Simmons looked pretty good though but it took them like 3 early OL draft picks and a couple free agents to find him which is tough when parity is kickin your ass haha defensive side they double dipped on Karlaftis early in 2022 and FAU early in 2023, karlaftis seems ok but FAU is lookin like a bust and I don’t think they’ve gotten nearly the return on investment they expected with those two picks if they somehow got Fautanu in 2023 and paired him with Simmons in 2024 they’d be so dangerous right now imo. It would take worthy being really really good to get them ahead of that hypothetical lineup of course they’d have to had given up some more assets in the trade up -
The KC Vs Chargers game implications for the Bills

I feel like I’m takin crazy pills on this one haha I’m not in the ‘chiefs are done’ camp at all but a divisional loss to a playoff caliber team playing an easier schedule than you is very consequential.. a loss to an nfc opponent in week 1 is way less consequential Yea they’ve only lost convincingly a few times in the playoffs but their margin of victory has been razor thin too. Them losing rest weeks/their opponents getting more because the chiefs are getting tied up in a divisional race down the stretch and are potentially losing a position or two in the seeding could’ve flipped some of those close wins into close losses even the year they were the 3 seed and won the superbowl on the road most of the way they got rest in week 18 and could afford to give some banged up players time off because their division was such a joke. the bills weren’t the 1 seed either and lost a ton of guys in the wildcard game. It feels like people have adopted this ‘seeding/the regular season doesn’t matter cuz the chiefs won a superbowl as the 3 seed one time’ style of thinking and I don’t really agree with it personally. They could certainly win it in spite of all that but everything gets much tougher -

The run blocking has been dreadful lately though…feels like they get so many favorable looks to run on and just can’t capitalize i think Pacheco was about equally as ineffective as Kareem hunt last year but it could’ve been injury recovery related -
Chargers-Chiefs tape - multiple slots?

No shot we lose if benford stayed healthy. It’s the same story every year against kc in the playoffs…I think we’ve been missing one of our best if not our best defensive player the last three playoff matchups against them. I get the whole ‘you’ve gotta find a way to win anyway’ argument but it’s just so disheartening. Last year no benford or rapp (two worst positions for us to lose guys that year), matchup before that entire linebacker room is devastated and aj klein comes in off the street to START, time before that no Tre White but they ended up losing Mathieu also so it turned into a wild shootout. really need Denver or lac to step up so they can’t rest guys that are a little banged up and coast to a division win…they’ve been freakishly healthy the last two playoff games against us -
Whoever finally takes down the chiefs in the afc playoffs is beating mahomes and Chris jones in a 2vs1 basically lol. It’s been so odd seeing mahomes get all the credit for the chiefs success when jones/the defense has been bailing them out a lot the last few years. I feel like Baltimore is a really solid team defense and the bills have been that at times too but neither team has a guy like Chris jones helping their qb get the ball back
-
I feel like defensively these two teams kinda have each others number lol it’s been a pretty interesting rivalry that doesn’t get enough attention for some reason (because Chiefs dominate all conversations I guess 😂) that regular season game last year was kind of an aberration but typically it seems some of McDs best game plans are against Baltimore so much of the focus is on qbs/mvp talk yada yada that I feel like the interesting stuff going on on the defensive side gets overlooked

Parsons traded to Green Bay, given $188 million contract
Generic_Bills_Fan replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
If this didn’t involve Jerry jones I think the nfl community would’ve had a more honest discussion about the trade. I really do understand it for both teams but the cowboys continue to get dunked on for it haha they were more than a Micah parsons away and while I think Jerry exaggerated a bit there’s def truth to the whole ‘paying a DE not great against the run almost 50 million is a little nuts’ line of thinking. we completely took their pass rush out of the game by just running the ball straight down their throats two years ago and I don’t think you’re gonna win anything with that issue ongoing there’s a good chance Jerry blows those two picks haha but that’s kinda a separate issue 😂 -

People get hung up on the receivers but the chiefs being abysmal at running the football is probably influencing this a lot more than a dropoff in wr talent. You can pretty much play with the lightest box you want and still stop the run and get pressure on mahomes these days -

I mean that was kinda an aberration…that bills team was never gonna even entertain forcing NE into a divisional race. Chiefs have two other playoff caliber teams in their division though and just lost to one of them. Having the division locked up so early and usually a bye has let them get really healthy for the playoff push and even if the chargers push them but come up short it’s still a pretty big deal if we lost to Miami week one and got outplayed equal to what we saw from kc last night I think there would rightfully be a ton of panic around here despite our history of whooping their ass and winning the afc east haha. That feels like a more meaningful hypothetical here -

Divisional loss is huge…even if all it does is make them play starters week 17/18 on their path to winning the division still.. they always seem to be freakishly healthy come playoff time and that+ the usual bye has a lot to do with it. Even their infamous struggle down the stretch year they still got to rest starters because they had no shot at the 1 or 2 seed and had no division competition -

There’s definitely small guys that play bigger than their size I just don’t think worthy is one of them. He doesn’t really seem proficient at fighting for contested catches and it feels like he’s not really great at making adjustments to his speed when tracking a ball. Someone like Devonta smith is thin also and not very strong but seems a lot more feisty im just not buying the worthy hype yet…I feel like he’s got a shot to develop into the player that people seem to think he is right now he just doesn’t look there yet to me -

I think what stood out to me in this one was it really wasn’t in stupid fashion…the chargers were just flat out better in pretty much every way. It wasn’t like unlucky turnovers or stupid mistakes, in fact I think the chiefs were pretty lucky just to be in that game. Chargers absolutely dominated and a couple blown coverages and a ridiculous fg resulting from a dumb clock management mistake made the final score closer than it actually looked Chiefs have only lost like two other turnover-free games in the entire mahomes era and the last time was vs the eventual afc champion bengals in 2021 who were significantly better than the 2025 chargers id never say they’re done by any means but I think the importance of that game is getting downplayed quite a bit just based on previous years results which doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. -

People may call it an excuse but if the bills had the bye that year KC came to Buffalo in the playoffs they win that game fairly easily imo. Our linebacker room got absolutely ravaged by injuries in that wildcard round against pit and the chiefs took every advantage. The importance of the 1 seed/regular season results gets downplayed way too much because the chiefs were pretty healthy and snuck their way through a few banged up teams on the road path to the superbowl one time. That’s not a feat they would be pulling off consistently. Every other year they were either the 1 seed or the 2 seed with the 1 seed knocked out. -
I wouldn’t say the chiefs are done by any means but they got straight up dominated by a pretty good division opponent and have a bunch of actually tough games coming up…I don’t think the score was a good indicator of how one sided those on the field matchups were.the chargers did their vintage can’t put a team away late thing but this time they were the better team by such a large margin it didn’t matter that is completely different than losing to probably the best team on your schedule and second best roster in the league which would be the deal if the bills lost

Bills would’ve scored 60 last night im pretty sure lol chiefs defense had a really bad night. I’m really hoping that Chris jones falloff is permanent but it’s wayyyy too early to suggest that -

Bills need the 1 seed…nothing else will do. Nobody needs the game more than them. People talk like the regular season doesn’t matter but it matters a lot…that’s how kc was able to watch while Baltimore and Buffalo beat the ***** out of eachother last year -
The chiefs losing a turnover free game is borderline historic…I think it’s happened like twice with mahomes as a starter and the last time was week 17 2021 against the bengals. The ugly games people are talking about are usually the chiefs just being sloppy protecting the football and that kinda stuff you know is not gonna happen come playoff time these games where teams just seem so much more talented them all over the field are popping up now though and they feel like something entirely different/less correctable to me. They’re still a dangerous team of course…I wouldn’t ever suggest they’re done. But I really do think they have been at least a tier below the prime Chiefs for a year+ now and have gotten some good fortune which has them outperforming their talent level.. most notably they always seem to be freakishly healthy come playoff time lately
-
I don’t think they can afford to or actually do treat it that way at all…the 1 seed was such a massive advantage for them I don’t think they would’ve made the Super Bowl without it last year..getting to rest a week then face the injury riddled Texans while the ravens and bills beat eachother up was huge. this years roster seems to have a lot of the same problems if not more
-
I mean all three of those guys were exclusively coached by mcd while in Buffalo haha I’m not sure what the point even is there. Tre he developed from the start of his career and he turned poyer who was a bum in Cleveland into a great player. Micah Hyde was obviously good already but he’s the only one mcd didn’t have a big hand in developing he did bring in taron johnson and Christian benford in the beane era too who are cornerstone type players in the secondary. Seems like they made Rapp into a serviceable player also which I never even woulda thought possible 😂 Elam was a first round miss but they got some return for him and late first round misses are pretty common. Chiefs drafted Anudike-uzomah in 2023 who is pretty equal to the Elam pick id say
-
Defense is a big red flag for me after that game….they would not have won a shootout against Baltimore or Buffalo or cincy tonight with worthy and rice back 100% healthy and unsuspended. That’s frankly probably a blowout against a top tier opponent even with those guys. Really we don’t even know what rice will look like when he’s back…sometimes it takes guys a year or so just to trust their knee again Chris jones regressing from otherworldly to really good is gonna expose a lot of guys on that defense it’s seeming like. He’s been absolutely carrying that dline and masking some secondary issues
-
Kingsley isn’t lookin any better at guard…he’s feelin like another missed chance at OL improvements for them. I didn’t notice Simmons doing anything too bad though that pick might be solid im still a little confused by their draft strategy but if they keep winning nobody will care haha Kingsley was def a high ceiling low floor type prospect and that’s not really the type of guy they could afford rolling the dice on in one of those tackle spots. I wonder if they wanted rosengarten and the ravens swiped him first
-
I’m still not super sold on him tbh and I’m trying to be as objective as possible (maybe I’m failing though lol)…the bills playoff defense with its best corner removed and replaced with kaiir Elam would make most receivers in the league look like an all pro 😂I don’t think he was super impactful other than that game He had like 40 more targets and 80 more yards than Coleman and Coleman was injured then pretty bad when he returned. Worthy’s getting talked up like he’s a high end wr1 though it’s pretty strange Pacheco looks like he’s running so hard which seems to fool people but I don’t think he’s ever been very good haha
