Lamar Jackson wants guarantees that exceed Watson contract
Billl replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
What are you even suggesting he should have done? Lamar wasn’t even offered his extension until September 2022. Josh signed his in 2021, so it’s apples versus oranges. Lamar earned $23 million last year and will earn a minimum of $32 million this year. That’s $55 million in two seasons following the contract offer, and he’ll be a free agent again after the season. Kirk Cousins has made an obscene fortune doing the same thing. -

Allen’s deal averages $43 million over 6 years, and it’s heavily back-loaded. Lamar gets a minimum of $32 million in 2023 which is $4 million more than Josh will get. -

And Lamar can still sign his name today and get a guaranteed $32 million just next season which would make it $55 million over a two year stretch and still be eligible for a brand new contract. -

I’m not claiming he has. The statement I responded to was claiming he’d never recoup the money he’d lost when the reality is that he hasn’t lost a dime. -

What money has he lost? -
Jordan Love is terrible. Bringing back Rodgers would basically mean paying him $60,000,000 to set back your rebuild by a year. There’s nothing stopping the Jets from drafting a QB if they don’t get Rodgers.

People are really taking this personally. It’s as if a man they’ll never meet who has never played for a team they cheer for is personally insulting them by not agreeing to an offer right away. There’s no rational explanation for it. So they’re going to let a 26 year old QB walk and draft a 25 year old QB? -
They aren’t exact, but they’re very similar. OBJ wasn’t elite all season, but he was in the 2021 postseason. Von was good coming back from his injury in 2021, but he was hardly elite. If you don’t see the similarities, then we just disagree. In my mind, they were both players where you knew there was a larger than usual risk of injury that had to be weighed against their superstar talent.
-
Von was one year removed from missing an entire season due to a leg injury and was 33 years old. Nobody should be shocked if OBJ gets hurt this season just as nobody should have been shocked that Von got hurt last year. That is the risk you take when you make these types of signings and yes, they’re very similar in nature. You’re hoping to get a year or two of greatness out of them before they decline. I don’t know that either of them were desperate moves, but they’re both absolutely gambles.
-
Two superstar mercenaries over the age of 30 coming off knee injuries signing with teams trying to make a Super Bowl push doesn’t sound close?
-
Was signing Von Miller last year a desperation move, cause this feels a lot like that.

Beane got lucky in the 2018 draft. If Allen had been taken instead of Mayfield or Darnold, Beane would be out of a job by now. While he deserves credit for picking the right Josh, that pick shouldn’t be taken into account when evaluating him going forward given the fact that he’ll probably never be in a situation to draft a QB with a top 10 pick again.

Tyreke Hill vs. Ja'Marr Chase vs Justin Jefferson - Contract management
Billl replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
The fact that KC had already banked a Super Bowl in 2019 gave them the capital to risk taking a temporary step back by trading Hill in order to invest in the long term with the picks they acquired. Given that these teams have never won one, I doubt they’ll be able to do anything other than go all in every season until they either win a championship or crash and burn. Then again, it’s possible that the Vikings are self-aware enough to realize that they’re nowhere near good enough to truly contend. If that’s the case, I could see them tearing it down to the studs and moving JJ for a massive haul. -
Find me one that doesn’t pay more than even money for them winning. Just because they’re the favorites doesn’t mean they’re favored over the field. The Jaguars, Chiefs, and 49ers are the only teams who have a better than 50-50 shot at winning their divisions. Last year at this time, the Bills were on that list.

Not a lot of resources were used, and there’s considerable upside.

Mitchell Schwartz was either first or second team All Pro four straight seasons coming into 2020. He hurt his back and retired after the season. He was literally the best RT in football up to that point. Eric Fisher was the Colts starting LT last season. When he retires, he’ll be in the Chiefs Ring of Honor. What in the world are you trying to achieve by pulling post after post out of your ass? “His lines were bottom 15 for half his time in KC before Veach.” He coached for 5 seasons prior to Veach and took over a 2-14 team. So we’re talking about what, 2 seasons of below average talent on a roster he inherited? That’s somehow a function of poor talent evaluation on his part? Congratulations. You are literally the first person in history to accuse Andy Reid of being subpar at evaluating OL. And to do it a month after he won a Super Bowl with a top 5 line that he built from scratch last season is especially remarkable.
-
Osemele was an absolute monster in Kansas City before his knees exploded. You don’t have a clue what you’re talking about.
-
Andy Reid is “bad at linemen”. I can’t even comprehend how you’re saying that Andy Reid is bad at building an offensive line. In 2021…the season we’re talking about, he started out with the 31st pick in the draft and traded for Brown, signed Joe Thuney (arguably the best LG in the league), drafted Creed Humphrey at the end of the second (the best C in the league), and drafted a top 5 RG Trey Smith in the 6th round. That offseason was literally a case study on how to build an OL. Tell me how good the KC line will be next year now that they replaced that worthless LT with one of the top Ts in the league. I’ve been worried about losing him. If you want to tell me he won’t be missed, I feel better about losing him.

Not only did you not read your own article, you didn’t even read the full headline. They weren’t disappointed in his play. They were disappointed that he turned down the 6 year, $139 million contract offer. Then they franchise tagged him. 8 months later, he made another Pro Bowl and won a Super Bowl.
