  1. Shanny picked Trey Lance lmao. He could've gotten Josh. He could've gotten Mahomes. I take McD and Josh over Lance/Purdy and Shanny HANDS DOWN.
  2. Folks that say preseason doesn't matter are sick to find out the coach is punishing the starters by making them play in this one because of how crappy they looked
  3. Topic. Title. I'm gonna put some work in today boys and girls, so strap in. To start: why am I comparing the Niners to the Bills? Well our regime started in 2017, as did theirs. They have an offensive coach, we have a defensive coach. And neither team has won the big one. So let's get started. HC/GM records: Shanny/Lynch: 52-46 McBeane: 62-35 Losing seasons: Shanny/Lynch: 3 McBeane: 1 Playoff records: Shanny/Lynch: 3 playoff appearances, 6-3, 1 SB appearance McBeane: 5 playoff appearances, 4-5, 0 SB appearance So there you have it. The numbers are pretty interesting. McD has run the steadier ship from a regular season perspective, but when SF makes the playoffs, they go a little deeper. I started with the results, because this is a results-based game. But let's enter the ultimate hindsight chamber. The DRAFT. 2017 Shanny/Lynch: 1 player still on the Niners (Kittle, All-Pro talent, 5th rounder) Reuben Foster (#31) and Solomon Thomas (#3 overall) were tremendous busts Some guys were fine placeholders and are still floating in the league (Witherspoon, Beathard, Trent Taylor) McBeane: 3 players still on the Bills (Tre White, Pro Bowler, #27. Milano, All-Pro, 5th rounder. Dawkins, fat but an NFL starter, 2nd rounder. No "busts" in the traditional sense for the Bills outside of Nate Peterman but he was a fifth rounder ZayDay was mediocre here but has carved out a career. Tanner Vallejo is a league STer, floating around as above. 2017 verdict: McBeane in a landslide, tbh. Editor's note: it was at this point, I realized I needed to speed this thing up, so the draft results will be briefer. If I do not point out a tremendous bust, it is because I do not believe there was one. I also decided to quit after 2021. 2018 Niners Mike McGlinchey (#9, good player, no longer a Niner) Fred Warner (#70, homerun pick, All-Pro) Bills Allen (#7, legit the best pick in Bills history) Edmunds (#16, no longer a Bill, "good" player if you like scarecrows?) Taron Johnson (#121, good player, starter) Wyatt Teller (strike against the Bills bc "Cody Ford over me?") 2018 verdict: McBeane in a landslide again? I'm thinking yes. 2019 Niners Nick Bosa (homerun, #3) Deebo (homerun) Dre Greenlaw (starter, good pick) Bills Ed Oliver (meh pick but I guess he's fine) Cody Ford (shoot me) Devin Singletary (solid) Dawson Knox (good-great pick) 2019 verdict: You just knew Shanny was gonna get this one. Cody Ford and Big Ed just can't compete. 2020: Niners: Kinlaw (kind of a sneaky bust? #14, played 10 games in 2 years?) Aiyuk (hit, #25 overall) Bills: Davis (hit) Dane Jackson (started a year, so I will call this a hit) Zack Moss (3rd round RB bust) Not including STers 2020 verdict: I'm tempted to call this a push, Aiyuk is better than Gabe but is he better than Gabe+Dane? 2021: Niners Hufunga (massive hit, All-Pro, #180) Aaron Banks (hit, starter, IOL) Lance (gigantic bust?) Trey Sermon (third round RB bust) Elijah Mitchell (hit, late RB) Bills Rousseau (hit, not homerun) Spencer Brown (I'm tempted to call this a hit, as he has basically started when healthy his whole career) Hamlin (less tempted to call this a hit, objectively I think he was not that good last year when pressed into duty, obviously rooting for him) 2021 verdict: I think this has to go Niners. We have the positional value but I think they have the better players. So what have we learned here? I think the conclusions that we can draw is that our parallel team in the Bay Area has not been some dominant drafting vehicle or some league leader in success. In fact, our records and drafting history stack up considerably well against them. They have their fair share of first round busts, far more than the Bills have. And HIGH first round busts, Solomon Thomas and Trey Lance loom much larger than Ed Oliver/Tremaine Edmunds just being starter-level players. I think SF gets a little bit of a pass for their shakier seasons because of their QB turmoil, but by the same token, don't pass on Mahomes for Solomon Thomas and don't draft busts like Lance. Now we can turn to the peanut gallery. The lesser minds who have almost certainly skipped to the last paragraph. The @Gugny 's and @BringBackFergy's of the world.
  4. The Bills were second in points scored and second in points allowed and got their doors blown off by the Bengals. Is your point that those Pats in that playoff game were actually REALLY GOOD?
  5. Allen is better than Brady in the playoffs is a lol-worthy take, but probably not in the way you think.
  6. I love Josh more than anyone. But Josh has never had to put up 40 to win and done so in the postseason either. To hold Burrow to that standard or else hes's a glorified Trent Dilfer is LUDICROUS. Josh has one game, one game in his postseason career, where he played almost perfect and lost. That sucks. It happens and it's been talked to death. But to act as though he's been dragging the Bills for 4 years through these deep playoff runs is BANANAS. Josh played like ***** against the Bengals in 2022. The whole team sucked. We lost. Josh made CRITICAL errors vs the Dolphins the week before. It turned a running for the bus game into a dog fight. Josh was perfect in 2021. Josh played well vs the Colts in 2020. Hard fought game vs a good team. He was kinda bad vs the Ravens, and we needed a pick six to close it out (offense only put up 10 points.) He was meh vs the Chiefs in 2020 but that was a team loss, in which he takes his share of the blame as well. Josh was bad v Houston in 2019. He was on the wrong end of a comeback, and again, had several critical mistakes to lose. These things are all okay. Peyton Manning was one of the greatest QBs ever and his resume is STACKED with some ugly playoff moments. He still won two Superbowls. None of this means Josh isn't "clutch" or that he doesn't have a ton of "putting the team on my back" moments. But he ain't no Tom Brady yet either.
  7. My exception to @BADOLBILZ's rules, which I generally agree with, is All-Pro caliber player's. I think an OG or C or S that is All-Pro worthy is a guy you would keep on your team. Mostly because as a theoretical exercise, you would only be paying the top-end positions, but in reality, most teams do not have a top QB/WR/EDGE/CB/LT all making top 5 at their position money. If Cody Ford was an All-Pro, the Bills would have been in the SB by now. If Spencer Brown was an All-Pro, the Bills would have been in the SB by now. Now, by the same token, would you rather have a cheap, cost controlled DE as an All-Pro for four years vs an OG? It's obviously DE. But that's not the choice teams are generally making.
  8. There are multiple teams that would actually part with a decent pick for a lotto ticket QB. The Bills are not one of them.
  9. "Bills fans remembering that the QB position matters more than every other position by a mile after watching the team miss the playoffs for almost 20 years" challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)
  10. I’ll believe they will lose the division when I see it happen. They traded away a HoF WR last year and won the Super Bowl. It should not be understated how impressive that is
  11. Knox had more TD’s and yards than Hayden Hurst last year. Joe Mixon averaged 3.9 YPC and had less rushing yards than Singletary on 50 more attempts. Yes, the Chiefs do a great job of scheming around Kelce, who is the arguably greatest TE of all time.
  12. Burrow has a QB rating of over 100 in the regular season. I like Herbert as much as the next guy, he’s great, but he’s 100% on the outside looking in on the top 3 of Allen/Mahomes/Burrow.
  13. When your examples are from 30 years ago, you’re kinda proving that these guys aren’t that valuable anymore. In a league without a salary cap, sure, pay a superstar RB. In reality, there’s a bunch of positions that are just more valuable. I would even say above average pass rushers, QB’s, CB’s and LT’s are more valuable than the cream of the crop RB’s.
  14. Part of Josh is being a gutsy baller and that means attempting SOME ill-advised throws. I don’t want him playing Rodgers ball where he would rather go 3 and out 5 times than throw a pick. That being said, I’m hoping last year’s red zone woes were an aberration in his career.
  15. Bobby Wagner and trade Edmunds was the move two years ago, unfortunately
  16. You got it backwards. Beane does know that OL is a problem. He just hasn’t done a great job fixing it.
  17. Maybe the problem isn’t that Beane doesn’t recognize that OL is a problem. It’s that he’s kinda been bad at fixing it.
  18. Employee says employer is great. Someone call the Hardly Boys to crack this one
  19. That we didn’t dominate the Jets last year. The Chiefs didn’t dominate the Colts either lmao
  20. Dorsey and Daboll as well, to a lesser extent, always had a sense of running the ball because they “had to.” Honestly, not way off base imo because the ball in Josh’s hands is the best way to go, but I don’t think Dorsey is great at misdirection or setting up different formations for running and passing. I think he telegraphs it a little bit.
  21. The Bills dominate the Jets? Didn’t we lose to Zach Wilson last year?
  22. I think this LB group is going to be all over the place all year. They will be subbing guys in and out for like 8 weeks.
