I fear you are spot on. I’m going to start calling him McLewis, he’s the modern MARVel. Mediocre by definition and yet fans refuse to acknowledge it because “it could be worse”.

Having 5 years of no real difference makers outside of Allen is exactly why they are in this situation. Last draft LOOKS pretty promising, hopefully the next draft can net 3 new starters on the OL, a #1B WR, 2 DTs, a pass rusher, 2 starting safeties and a partridge in a pear tree so they can fix the cap and be good at the same time.
-
Who? The S depth on this team is pathetically bad. Are you planning to convert corners? I’m sadly convinced they will run it back again in 2024, same coaches, same basic roster and 2025 will be the new coach and a reset year. So they won’t be competitive again until 2026 and Josh will be creeping up on a decade in the league as a guy who hammers his body.. hope I’m wrong, but I think the pundits had it right, the window is basically closed.
-
Well that’s because he’s scoring too fast obviously. You can’t leave a team 13 seconds and expect to win, unless you play the Bills who have 2 time outs and 20 seconds, they will just kneel it out for you.

Man, I can’t imagine what he could do w a TE who gets coverages to leave a safety down and a QB with an arm like Allen or Maholmes, can you?

Von Miller faces arrest in domestic violence case in Dallas
DCofNC replied to ArdmoreRyno's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, BUT it’s Texas, so the DA makes the decision, not the victim. Dead money is what his cap hit would be if he were cut in that season. So if you bounce him in 2024, it costs is 32M -

That all depends on what the DA wants to do, if they can be bought, Von is fine, if they want to make an example of him, good luck! -

I’d say Miller cost himself everything w this one. He’s probably done in the league and nobody is going to hire him to front office work if they can’t show complete innocence on this. -
Might as well just trade Josh to a team where he has a chance to win if true. What a shame to watch another guy go down as “best to never win anything”. So you are ok with being the team that has to play perfect games because they aren’t good enough. Got it.

Von Retiring straight up screws the Bills, he needs to cut his salary.

Joe Brady on the Allen/Davis Miscommunication
DCofNC replied to Scott7975's topic in The Stadium Wall
It’s all coach speak to say it wasn’t Gabe’s fault, Brady essentially said, the guys weren’t prepared to execute under the circumstances and I knew we would see it, so it’s my fault. He took the finger pointing away from both guys by simply saying the team wasn’t prepared for the moment. -

DCofNC replied to Scott7975's topic in The Stadium Wall
Im ok with what you’re saying, but why is it, when there’s a “miscommunication” the ball is almost ALWAYS intended for Davis? I can’t believe the rest of the guys just know what Josh is thinking every time, there’s something to it. -
I don’t get it, he even has the right name for a WR in Buffalo, we love smurfs, what more can he do?

The entire problem with a scheme like this, you can hide mediocre talent with it, waiting on the other team to screw up. However, you sell your soul to stop either the run or the pass in big moments UNLESS you have elite talent, that leaves you susceptible to getting crushed in big moments. The reason Tony Dungy got fired in Tampa was the same issue, bend, don’t break, only works if you have room to bend. McD will get fired is just that, it doesn’t work when you can’t bend.
-
If they lose to KC, just mail it in, you aren’t getting in the playoffs, it’s also proof you can’t beat the best (in their own version of a down year)so just plan for the draft. That said, regardless of what makes sense, they will play to win for the rest of the year and put themselves 2 or 3 draft slots away from the guy they really want/need for the 50th time. Or even better, trade the slot that takes potentially the GOAT at their respective positions for the 3rd time in 7 years.

Per Benjamin Allbright, McDermott's "seat is warm"
DCofNC replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Oh I agree, I think the Bills job is the most desirable in the NFL, possibly 2nd to the Chargers in some people’s view if they are both available this year. The Chargers have SO MUCH talent on that roster, they really should be much better than they are, but the Bills have Josh Allen and the ability to clear a lot of cap room after next year, so that’s another good spot. Guys will jump on it for sure. -

How can anyone answer the question without knowing who will be available? Harbaugh may or may not be available to the NFL, Bellicheck may or may not be on the market, Ben Johnson may or may not be on the market, etc. There are multiple candidates, but without knowing who is actually available, one can’t answer the question. I think the obvious thing about it all, McDermott is not a guy that many believe can get the job done. -

Exactly what part am I wrong about? Beane came in after McD, Whaley did the drafting and was promptly fired. They didn’t come together. So YOU are wrong. Yes, they signed extensions at the same time, as I stated. You have drawn a connection to them in your head that doesn’t exist. -

So you think McD just makes guys come to life? C‘Mon man. Benford looks like a starter on most teams, Bernard looks like a top 5 cover MLB and you think he can’t play elsewhere? Why is it that he looks better than Edmunds ever did? Was McD too crappy to get more from the better athlete or is it that Bernard is just a good player? Poyer did find much more success in Buffalo, but Hyde was an emerging player in GB who was forcing his way on the field, they just didn’t have a spot for him. I don’t give much to McD on that, Hyde just needed a spot to play and finally got it here. Dane Jackson is a depth corner who never should have been starting here either. The zone scheme takes a lot off of corners and that’s how he even has a chance to play, it’s not rocket science here. They are NOT linked contractually in any way, they came in at different times ( royal screw up by ownership) and got extended at the same time, theres nothing more than that. You have this false link created in your mind bc they came from the same team that they are forever linked. -

Beane doesn’t have to throw him under the bus, MCD doesn’t report to him. You think Beane is going to quit to support his buddy and give up his own contract? Good luck with that. -

I think you make a lot of assumptions, based on absolutely nothing. -

Let them have him, it’s a great situation, they need to create a culture, he can do that. Once he raises them to above mediocre they can fire him too. Why would Beane be loyal to McD? Tying yourself to him is a dangerous game. -

BS, it’s a zone scheme, McClappy doesn’t have some magical voodoo about him.
