Agree his hand definitely wasn't 100% on that play. But don't think that caused the incompletion. Josh appeared to "double clutch"/second guess what he was seeing on that pass (it's a house call if not read correctly). His base was completely off and screwed up his throwing mechanics, you could tell by his reaction he was clearly upset with his decision-making. That's OK, Josh makes that throw 90+ times out of 100. Several key plays (ie: this one, Milano pick 6, Bass missed FG, etc) didn't go our way and it was still a 2 point game. We'll be good, need to get some guys back... hopefully Morse, Poyer, Ed will be ready for Bmore.

This game exposed we rely to much on Josh again

i don't know if it was Van Roten snapping, or another reason, but we didn't go under center much at all. That eliminates the "threat" of running & playaction looks. I also don't get whey we NEVER go into a 'bunch' formation, against man/blitz looks. Daboll didn't do this either, I feel like it's easy to get clean releases & rub routes when stacking WRs. Difficult to complain about 490+ yards and 90 plays ran though. It's all about finishing drives with points though, specifically TDs. We stalled out too much, same problem plagued us at times LY, I have a feeling they will get it corrected. Big loss to the OL with Morse out, and then several guys going down in the heat. -
NFL Week #3 - Bills at the Dolphins - Post game thread
MasterStrategist replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Maybe this has been discussed, but I think Milano or Edmunds missed an assignment. I think one of them was supposed to rush/blitz. We ran a similar concept Week 1 against the Rams (blitzed Milano/Dropped Von). This time Groot dropped in coverage... Very odd to run a Cover 2/only 3 man rush concept on 3rd and 22. We NEVER rush just 3 guys, like once out of a 100 plays. Something was miscommunicated, JMO. -

Took a hit to his hand, helmet or facemask. Josh & Coach both said he's ok after game (this is after xray were done). -
No problem having all the RBs active, they all made impacts plays and got plenty of action in the passing game. But yes, bigger concern is OL. Same concern prior to the season, especially at G.

That's fair, if you also look at how many "critical" errors we made in execution, and not coaching. We botched a FG, Josh missed an easy TD pass, we botched at least 1 (likely 2) end of half FG opportunities and Milano dropped a pick 6 that might have sealed the game. That's poor execution, not coaching. We had a backup secondary, minus Taron, and still held Tua to 13 completions....bottom line is we choked on too many critical plays. That won't happen all the time, but we need to learn to make those plays in close games.
-
Why? Because Josh double clutched a TD pass, or because Quesenberry held when in FG range? Or when Milano dropped a pick 6? or a bad snap at end of 1st half cost us a FG? Gimme a break, they overcomed alot this week and came up short because they made too many mistakes in crucial situations. Factor in playing in 100 degree heat. And before anyone says Miami deals with the same thing, their sideline is shaded the ENTIRE game. Not sure how the league or union doesn't look at heat index and consider that as dangerous as lightning... do we need to see a star QB come out due to the heat before considering a rule change

Micah to IR (out for the year per his agent)
MasterStrategist replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hate to see this. But things happen for a reason: 1. First and foremost, Johnson has been ready and waiting, contract year for him too. Never know what we have until we give him P/T 2. Lewis was likely 1st cut once Tre and Dane returned. This gives him a clear path to perhaps focus on the safety role (which he had been cross training at) 3. Injuries happen to all teams, as Von alluded to, very rare to go unscathed and not lose a key player/difference maker at some point in the season. Others said it in the preseason, but we had 2 backups (Johnson and Hamlin) that could start for many teams in this league. -

Micah Hyde seeking 2nd opinion on neck injury
MasterStrategist replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
He's currently on the Cardinal P/S. "IF" Hydes injury is serious, they are likely looking around the league at options on other P/S. Teams can protect 4 players each week, so it's a possibility they have their sights on someone who is "protected". Unfortunately, might need to wait until Tuesday. At that point, if Hyde isnt moved to IR then I'd consider him a potential return within a few weeks (hoping this is the case). "EDIT": my comment above is incorrect, re: 4 PS being protected each week. Thanks to @yoloinohio for clarification. -
They just dressed 9 DL against the Titans, and I see us doing it again. Bryant and Brewer needed on early down rotations, and can see us occasionally sliding Groot or Boogie inside on obvious passing situations. Agree on the 3 PS call ups, that is a bit concerning. But cross that bridge when needed. They have options (ie: cut Shaq, although not ideal, you could try sneaking him onto the PS) and fingers crossed that the DTs can stay healthy for the remainder of season.

Micah Hyde seeking 2nd opinion on neck injury
MasterStrategist replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Re:Phillips, I think he had a hammy injury during his stint with the Cardinals. Not sure if same hammy. Coach said he was day to day, during his press conference Tuesday. I'd like to see him heal up completely, especially if it's the same leg that he dealt with before. Based on how he immediately collapsed running, going to guess he felt it twinging (but not pulled). Hoping Balt return, but more likely Steeler game. Actually Coach didn't say "day to day", he said we will take it one day at a time with Hyde. He used "day to day" for the other injuries, except Dane. Agree on Poyer comment, that is encouraging. But it was immediately after the game, prior to this 2nd opinion, so hopefully no news is good news right now. -
Micah Hyde seeking 2nd opinion on neck injury
MasterStrategist replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nothing new...quick recap: 1. Coach declared out (during 10:30am interview with Sal): Hyde, Dane, Phillips 2. Pre practice press conference, Coach said (paraphrasing): all others will be on the field in some capacity. He also said 2-3 players may be uncertain on status, even after today. So sounds like gametime decision for a few. 3. Poyer: Coach said his foot injury happened during Titans game, has been getting more info throughout this week. Coach made it sound like Jordan might be a gametime decision, perhaps not 100% even if he plays. 4. Milano: should be full go 5. Hyde/Jackson: Coach was asked if any concern longterm/IR with these guys, and he "didn't want to get into it". Jackson was then seen at practice (light stretching in red jersey- Matt Parrino twitter). My guess from all this: 1. Offense: should have all guys back, Davis, Morse, Knox 2. Defense: think Ed, Poyer and Settle will be gametime decisions. Hopefully all 3 can suit up 3. Hyde: mystery still, hopefully he's not a surprise IR tomorrow. Think they will make a decision (hence 2nd opinion) on IR before this game, to create the roster spot 4. Jackson: encouraging to see him at practice, albeit just light jogging. Would guess he is not going on IR, hopeful he can be back next week or for Steelers (his hometown team) -
Micah Hyde seeking 2nd opinion on neck injury
MasterStrategist replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
The 2nd opinion component could really be a multitude of things. Micah has had prior neck injuries. For all we know, he has his own specialist/therapist/etc that he consults with in the offseason re: his neck, and he wants that individual's opinion given the background/familiarity. m Bottom line, there will be several "markers" over the next few days: 1. today will likely reveal more if he's practicing in any capacity / or at least out with his teammates (ie: Dane yesterday). And any comments from Coach. 2. IR designation: team isn't going to wait around past this weekend, "IF" this is serious. No news is good news; likely means back within a few weeks. I think we will know more today, Micah is a team leader and think Coach will pass along more info. -
Micah Hyde seeking 2nd opinion on neck injury
MasterStrategist replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Until any of the injuries are announced as "long term"/IR, then everyone should relax. Injuries happen, if most or all of these guys all get back within the next 2-3 weeks (potentially Tre as well), then we're fine. We have depth to overcome in the short term, hoping guys can avoid any more injury issues. And for the Dolphins, their starting RT is on IR and their marquee FA signing (LT Armstead) hasn't practiced for 2 days. They could be without both starting tackles, not an easy situation to overcome. -
Both teams have major flaws, but expect Steelers to "open up" the offense a bit (deep passes, etc) and Browns secondary has had major coverage assignment issues both weeks. I'd take the Steelers, +4.5

Micah Hyde seeking 2nd opinion on neck injury
MasterStrategist replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sucks to likely be without Dane and Micah, but let's not forget we have: 1. Benford: basically a Dane clone, with more upside 2. Elam: think he eventually takes over CB2 by end of season (so early/extra PT against the best WR duo will only help when playoffs roll around) 3. Johnson: this is sorta a Dane situation from past year, where you don't like the starter getting hurt, but nice to see what he's capable of in a starter role...bc he might be Jordan's eventual replacement. Assuming Poyer plays, I think we are still in solid shape and hopefully can avoid any secondary injuries. Unless Micah injury turns into longterm, and nothing is certain right now one way or the other, then we are OK short-term. Micah, Jackson (miracle), and Tre are potentially then returning in the next 2-3 weeks. At which point, 2 difficult roster decisions: 1. Lewis: is he cut or traded? 2. Gameday roster: once Tre and Dane return, which corner sits on gameday? Just get thru these next couple weeks, hopefully unscathed and be back to normal. -
Absolutely expect Jordan to play, and they are being cautious given Micah injury. Micah on the other hand, his 2nd opinion could be just for "confirmation", good or bad. We don't know. Tomorrow will tell alot about him and others with "DNP", even a limited practice for Phillips, or Micah/Poyer, would be a indicative of 50/50 for Sunday. Agree with you that DNP on a Friday tends to lead to inactive on gameday.
-
Was hoping Davis could play, but few positives: 1. If we was this close/gametime decision, then good chance he's ready for next week (barring any setback) 2. These injuries tend to linger in a game. If he wasn't close enough to 100%, better to free up that roster spot for someone else 3. Need to see what we have in backups at some point, injuries happen and better to get tested against a team with injuries of their own in the secondary
-
Our dline will be fine. Be great if Ed could play, but the downgrade to Bryant against a run heavy team isn't that horrible. Daquan Jones and improved DE play (against run and pass rush), is what we will need to rely on (no matter if Ed dressed or not)
