Really liking that, and that aspect def would be a significant improvement over Daboll calling the plays -

Emphasis on illegal contact is def new and was a horrible call on Benford. It's just 1 play, but if that continues it will certainly be annoying -

Can already say these "new" ways of calling penalties this closely against the secondary will absolutely ruin games this yr -

Dawkins and Quessenberry superb protection on that TD pass. Albeit against a 2nd team dline, but this is what happens when protection holds for Josh. -

And this is why you get your starters some "live action" in preseason. Tackling and other aspects just aren't as simulated in practice setting. -

Looking forward to seeing Josh run thr offense with a new coordinator. then the RB and slot WR usage with starting O. On Defense, I think the secondary is going to have some tough cuts, looking forward to seeing them. -
How many trades does Beane make the next 3 weeks?
MasterStrategist replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
Disagree completely on Dane. He's obviously better than "decent", to earn a non-dress status for preseason game 1. I'm hoping Tre is ready week 1 just as much as everyone else, but we aren't trading the 1 player who has been in the system for 2 years (Dane)...and rolling with 2 rookies against the defending SB Champs. Benford is a great find, but I think he's going to be a weekly inactive (once Tre is healthy). -
Giants claim Olaijah Griffin off waivers
MasterStrategist replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
Keeping 10 vs 11 is probably the toughest roster decision for the coaches/front office. Lewis will be instantly picked up, Giants or someone else. McCloud might even get snatched up, I feel like they are kinda "hiding" him, by cross training at Safety this year. We will see, but I think Cam makes the team and we compensate by keeping 6 WRs...Kumerow is cut, Cam can fill that S/T void. QB - 2 (try to get Barkley to P/S) Rb - 4 (Jones makes it) TE - 3 (including Gilliam, Howard makes it but close) Wr - 6 (Crowder and Hodgins fill out the final 2 spots) OL - 9 (Ford gets final spot) S/T - 3 (Araiza makes it) DE - 5 (Shaq makes it) DT - 4 LB - 6 (Spector and Dodson final 2 spots) CB - 7 (including Neal and Lewis) S - 4 I think we play some "games" by cutting Reid, sneaking Speedy onto initial 53 then IR. Boettger starts year on PUP. Priorities for P/S: 1. Barkley 2. Blackshear 3. Duke 4. Morris 5. McCloud 6. Tenuta 7. Anderson 8. Hart 9. Love 10. Giles-Harris 11. Thomas 12. Austin 13.. Harris 14. Lee 15. Ankou 16. Bryant -
Ugh, hope nobody is drinking that...

Don't use logic with him, he wants to flood the conversation with anything that will distract and prove he's correct. Including mis-quoting Beane/selectively picking comments to support what we wants, etc etc. As you know 😁. Lack of outside WR depth has hit a level of insanity this offseason. I'll be thr first to admit I was wrong, if that plays out
-
According to our resident "know it all" poster, it would be Jake Kumerow. But in reality, Shakir mostly.

Not living in hindsight, I know it's a sensitive topic to some. I agree, he had not become the player he is until he joined that organization. Scheme and other factors played a big part. Similar to Jerry joining us. I do think this causes Beane to pause trading young/potential guys, or at least become a bit more patient. All good though, can't wait/eager to see if anyone than Josh and Diggs are remaining.

Preseason week 2: Broncos at Bills
MasterStrategist replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Perhaps. Just going off last yr tho (only 3 game preseason to compare against), Josh only played some in final game. I think getting him and other starters "live" action is def a delicate balance, but I like the idea of 1 quarter (game 2 or 3, not sure it matters much). -
Watching those highlights of Wyatt.... Teller pulling and pancaking Honey Badger in the Div playoff game, reminds me of "Rudy" Wyatt is a beast up front, that's about as 1-sided as a trade gets...Beane won't let that happen again
-
Wow, Von at #93..... confused by that. Unreal, can't wait for him to explode in this defense.
-
In a Bears offense that's been a complete mess, I'd say that's about right for him. I was hoping he'd slide in that draft class, as I recall, Bears drafted him immediately before we drafted Motor. I'm happy, Devin is a very good player, but Montgomery has a bit of 'Freddy' running style...he'd be even more of a household name on a legit offense
-
I like it and great analysis! 1. I think Crowder and Hodgins will make it 2. Jones for ST/gunner...he's just that good at that role 3. Last spot to me is a bit different, I think we keep 6 LBs (Spector for now, will be interesting when Smith suspsension ends) and opt for Lewis over Blackshear. Unless Blackshear is in the plans for a returner role, I think they try to stash him on the P/S. I already think Dorsey will have his work cut out for him involving the top 3 RBs, and Lewis adds more value as a possible gunner and backup corner (especially with a bit of uncertainty with Tre's exact return, as of now).
-
That makes sense. I agree with you, my post was likely confusing in return. I've been a big fan of Hodgins, and Speedy, both having solid camps (hoping Hodgins stays healthy and Speedy recovers soon). Definitely some difficult decisions. I'm already liking the Cook at KR and Shakir at PR idea, if that holds up to start the season. Gives more flexibility with gameday roster, essentially 1 more player, if we don't have to dress a dedicated returner.
-
I agree with alot of this. It might be challenging to keep 7 WRs this yr, if that happens then likely Cam Lewis is cut (another player who is likely scooped up immediately). I think Jones is a lock, he's still a top ST/gunner in this league. Along with Neal, we have the best combination. Kumerow I have no problem being let go, but agree with others and when you said Hodgins needs "some" ST value. He doesnt need to be our next gunner, or even dress, but I can't see our WR6 offering little to no ST value, that's a luxury roster spot at that point. Good news, he seems to be receiving ST reps, hopefully he's making the most of those. I can't see us cutting Hodgins if he stays healthy and consistent.

Yeah I can understand the "depth" concerns, when our primary backups are guys who have bounced between a team or two/have some flaws. Ideally we could have landed a solid interior OL in round 3-4, but Bernard was a solid pick and draft board must not have aligned. But many teams struggle to field a solid 5. I feel we've come along/improved vs last season, when Cody lined up as a starter week 1 (he's likely our 9th, maybe 10th OL right now). I'm good with our depth right now, considering what that means in the current NFL: 1. Mancz: starting experience, backup C 2. Quesennbery: past starter, I think he'd be fine at RT or RG backup 3. Doyle: continues his development, young guy who is likely our swing tackle next year 4. Ford or VanRoten: starting exp, think Ford makes it but not a lock. One of these guys likely gets traded, or Beane attempts to (barring injury) Next year, I see us drafting at least 1 maybe 2 guys again for the trenches. Until then, this group is better on paper than last year, IMO

Postgame thread:Bills 27 - Colts 24
MasterStrategist replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Great interview, and glad to see the young guys have success early. One thing that really stands out in this draft class, is the humble & "love the game" attitude they all have. Beane and Coach often talk of the Bills "dna", they clearly look for guys with these attributes. But when these mental aspects and talent align, look out. I think we can start to see this has the potential to be a very very good draft class -
Everyone realizes we rested our "top 7" OL yesterday, right? A rookie in Tenuta, who likely lands on our P/S was starting at RT and Bobby Hart at G (who might be another P/S candidate). This was going up against the Colts mostly starters. Same can be said of Keenum. He was behind this OL grouping that will never sniff a down (as a collective unit) this season. Put our starting OL in front of Keenum, and this is a different story.

I'd be shocked if Kumerow or Duke could fetch a draft pick, even with Beanes prowess. Ford is competing with VanRoten. I think Cody makes it as our 9th. AJ is making this team, can't see a situation we want Shaq as our 4th DE. Epenesa played fairly well last night, think he is our 4th DE and makes it. Giles Harris is a definitely a good call out. I think he's on the bubble, between him/Dodson/Spector. Thought he played well, but I could see Beane getting a late pick for him (if we don't keep him). -
Both of them did, Shakir/Kumerow and Crowder was in the slot on 1st series. Appears you missed that. I personally don't take much stock in who starts a preseason game anyway. I'm going off of practice reports, player/coach/GM interviews, and ability to watch players and try to project their role on our team this season. You are certainly not lacking in the "self righteous" territory...as Coach would say, stay humble. Beyond difficult to engage in a conversation with someone who needs to be right constantly, then changes the framework/focus of discussion when possibly wrong. Good day, I can see this is a worthless cause
