I think the '90s SB teams will lose some of their position in history if and when the current team wins a SB. Not appears in, but WINS, a SB. In a world where the current regime makes it to the big dance and WINS, the '90s teams will seem less relevant and I think talk about them will naturally tail off a bit. People will still remember them forever and the players will always be favorite Bills for many.

It's the team and system's job to isolate Tua himself from the process, because ALL players will say "I'm fine, put me back in, coach." Also, once the various visual indicators of head trauma on the field were seen, the rule indicates that simply based on that, Tua can't return to the game; it doesn't matter if he was "cleared" at halftime. He was allowed to go back in b/c the team lied about the reason for his stumbling and falling over...which means Tua could not be the sole cause for returning to the game. It's all a LOT bigger than that.

NFLPA initiating investigation into Tua’s concussion protocol
Nextmanup replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Augie, maybe I'm wrong, but you seem to be taking the whole thing kind of at face value--trying to find a legitimate reason for the system breakdown. I don't think you will find a legitimate reason. The system broke down because the people directly involved in making the system work did not want to make the system work. If the people involved in this are going to ignore the system, it doesn't matter what the system is. That is what makes this whole thing so heinous in my eyes. In 2022, NFL franchises are supposed to take head trauma very seriously and put the health of a player ahead of the game. Clearly they did not--and in my opinion it wasn't through some systemic breakdown, but rather an intent to make the system break down. Heinous! -
NFLPA initiating investigation into Tua’s concussion protocol

When you put it that way, it does seem a little absurd. Though in fairness, that's just Adam Shefter's description of events; we don't know the full reasoning behind the firing yet, or do we? Did the NFLPA have a P/C or make some statement release? He strikes me as a really weird dude. -

If fairly high up people within the Miami organization don't pay for this with their jobs, the firing of this doctor will accomplish absolutely nothing. -
NFLPA initiating investigation into Tua’s concussion protocol

That's not the way I read it, but who really knows. If he just destroyed his phone, I'd call it "interference," not hostility. Sounds like he was an ass but we need to know more. -
Tua has a Charity - Let's Give It A Boost!!!

Would you please take your garbage to the politics board? Is this place moderated at all now? -
What's with interest in game weather all of a sudden around here? Weather can be very relevant at some games under special circumstances, but not this week. Why even discuss it?

I don't have strong opinions about this stuff, and have no idea how you would rate these guys. Having said that, in my lifetime the best I have seen is Belichick, and before him it was Parcells. So in the era I am familiar with, those are 1 and 2. I remember Landry and guys like that but I was young.

That is far from certain at this point. I get that we are a better team; we are also already behind in the race for the division, and Miami is going to win 10 or 11 games this year, if Tua plays and is OK. If we lose tomorrow, Tua plays, Miami wins, people around here will start rethink things a little bit.
-
At this point, I think it is beyond obvious that Tua suffered a concussion in the Bills game, and pretty much everyone familiar with this stuff knows that. Further, he should have then sat out a solid 3-4 WEEKS before playing game 2 (after concussion). Now he's been hammered twice in a few days. The conventional wisdom among experts is that he now should SIT OUT THE REST OF THE SEASON with something like a 3-4 MONTH recovery period. You wonder what Tua himself thinks about all this. I understand he is a competitor and wants to play, and Miami looks like the have a good season going...but wouldn't you think he would literally value his own head more than a few football games? I.E., you would think he would be doing his own consulting right now, knowing full well what happened to him in the Bills game, and deciding to sit out the rest of the season. I can see his agent pushing him in that direction, and hooking him up with proper medical evaluation, independent of the Dolphins organization. He probably should have already done this or maybe he's doing it right now.

One thing to consider is what is going to happen to Tua. That is still very much undetermined. Everything I read says he should, for sure, not return this season. Will he be back this week? Take a month off? Lose 8 games? If he is gone, so are the Fish...and then we can continue to struggle a little through the tough schedule and still be fine for the division title down the road.

LOL...this guy Boger, the head referee for the game, is a retired insurance underwriter. What a perfect profile for being able to run around an NFL football field and make snap judgments with your eagle eyes and quick wits. Plus he can delve into his decades of experience underwriting insurance policies to better ascertain if a borderline play should be a penalty or not, based on conventional player technique, the way he used to play the game, and so on. This guy shouldn't be allowed anywhere NEAR a football field. And then we wonder why officiating is horrid.

NFLPA initiating investigation into Tua’s concussion protocol

I'm afraid this NFLPA investigation isn't being well run. It needs to be very FAST and HARD HITTING and VOCAL. It is currently none of those things. -
People, this doesn't have anything to do with mistakes by doctors. They aren't stupid. They knew 100% what was going on and wanted to keep the No. 1 QB going. I'm sure a certain % of the NFL would do exactly the same, while EVERYONE maintains they would not, and that player safety is No. 1 There is a reason why the protocol was invented in the first place, and it's not because NFL teams have player safety as their number one concern.

If we lose, lost of folks will go crazy, and the bulk of this board will be posting messages that say "This place is going to be insufferable this week" as most here can't stand to read anything negative about the Bills, even if its warranted. My personal outlook will remain about the same. We are going to have a tough patch coming up, and I think we will lose more games. The key is what we look like and how play at the END as long as we are in the playoffs, everything else can take care of itself.

Why do so many folks here care what other fans are thinking, writing, or talking about? Our interest is in the Bills; why not talk about that?

NFLPA initiating investigation into Tua’s concussion protocol
Nextmanup replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Tua doesn't have a history of TBI going back to 2018. He may have something from high school or even earlier, but I can't find a record of that. It could be that he is just predisposed to having this sort of problem, and as soon as he gets hit, the condition reveals itself. Now that he got injured twice in 4 days, his next one is likely to come even easier and the effects might be more severe. If you were him, when would you go back to playing? It's a tough decision to make. I think I'd sit out a solid month. YES IT WAS! And quite a while later changed to "back issue." Good point. -
Funny you post this; I completely forgot that show existed. But at one time I was a big fan and watched it regularly. Even back then as a little kid, I knew Emmy Jo was hot as hell! It's funny looking at the animals' costumes now...they look terrible and crudely designed. I thought they were great back then! EDIT: apparently Emmy Jo is Emily Peden. She's 77 years now now!

I agree with you that Tua is a lot better than most of this board thinks he is, and the Dolphins are a lot better as a team this year than this board thinks as well. But you mentioned that Miami has to be the favorite to win the AFC East this year. That I can't agree with. We massively outplayed them despite losing on the scoreboard in kind of a crazy game weather-wise and with our lineup completely decimated by injury. I genuinely believe we will beat them by 2 or 3 TDs when we play them again in Buffalo, assuming our injuries are cleaned up by then. Miami is a good team this year, but we still have to be the division favorite, and by a solid margin. Also, some people are now saying Tua should not return this season. If Tua misses 3 or 4 weeks, forget it. Miami will lose all those games and fall behind. If he is gone the whole season, Miami might have a shot at picking first in the draft next year.
