Couldn't even end this game without this terrible crew throwing a flag. -

Herbert is a statue back there, but his OL usually gives him a great pocket. The Jags don't have any receivers that can get separation or win contested catches. The Charger secondary is just coming up and mugging them and Lawrence is losing his cool. Their TE just got out positioned by a DB on a that last INT... stick a fork in them unless a miracle turn around. This is heading for an embarrassing blowout... -

Looks like DPIs are off the table for playoffs with how much Samuel is grabbing. -
Probably a lot more nuanced than run or pass to win. Although game plans featuring runs to manage the clock and keep an offense off the field are still viable. I think the Rams were close to leading the league in play-action % and runs when they had Goff, but Goff is a QB who likes to operate under center and does not excel at off schedule throws or extending plays. Running the ball and play-action works for him. When the Rams acquired Stafford their use of runs and play action dropped considerably as Stafford has more comfort operating with empty sets and from the shotgun. Detroit has done the opposite with Goff incorporating more runs and passes out of the same sets and had some success this year. So they have an increase in play-action passes for Goff, keep throws on schedule, and have added a bit more depth to those passes to help better move the chains. Play action (IMO) is not nearly as effective out of the shotgun which we use a lot, but we also have a very mobile QB which opens up RPO's which neither Stafford or Goff would pull off very effectively as defenses don't really fear them as runners.

I like Tua, and believe that there is an overall drop with his backups. BUT there is also a very significant drop in completion rate when comparing Tua's throws on schedule with the middle open, and Tua forced to reset and throw off schedule and off platform to areas not normally in his read progressions. Some say that applies to all QBs, but I get the sense that Allen is actually more comfortable when plays break down and he has to get creative on the move outside the pocket... Their offense got a bit tougher for us to defend when they added more run balance, but for the most part we played our nickel personnel. Folks have tried to jam Hill and Waddle to mess up the timing,, but Miami has adjusted by playing them off the line in bunch formations or giving them a full head of steam by motioning them. We don't really have our DBs jam WRs. There is not really a terrible team in the AFC East this year. They are all teams that can be competitive. One game at a time - go Bills!

I was upset during the game with the RZ pick till I saw the replay. I think it should have been a roughing the passer call on Judon. First a refresher on roughing the passer rules - particularly this simple one to protect QB's knees: A rushing defender is prohibited from forcibly hitting in the knee area or below on a passer who has one or both feet on the ground, even if the initial contact is above the knee. It is not a foul if the defender is blocked (or fouled) into the passer and has no opportunity to avoid him. Notes: A defender cannot initiate a roll or lunge and forcibly hit the passer in the knee area or below, even if he is being contacted by another player. #9 Judon coming free on the stunt. -

It's a habit thing with Allen. As with any QB they have preferences and tendencies. Allen is the anti-checkdown as his focus is almost always on slow-developing routes or scramble drills beyond the sticks. That is why even DCs who are notorious for playing Cover 0, will drop defenders and play the deeper shell zones when playing Allen. I did see a quick-timed back shoulder throw to Diggs yesterday that was just impossible to defend that moved the chains so that was sweet and well-executed. But rather than calling those passes to RBs dump passes perhaps if Dorsey schemed those RB plays a bit deeper - right in front of the sticks where Allen would often hit Beasley. Those might have a better shot of being targeted than a 3 yrd dump that is literally under Allen's radar. -

Agree on one point for sure... I think those shorter throws with more touch and predictive accuracy ARE the hardest throws for Allen. Give him a 30 yard out on the opposite side of the field, being chased and on the run, where the ball has to travel 50 yards, and Allen throws it on a frozen rope on time before a defender gets there. Give him an easy swing pass and it often leaves you scratching your head asking where was he throwing that. So he has the 3 point shots down and just needs some work on the layups. And yes, defenders will try to get their hands up to block quick short throws. So throwing lanes around DL players is a thing. With the way our OL can get rolled one would think that screens could be executed better, but we don't try a lot of them and they have a low success rate when we do. Some of that may be how most teams are rushing 4 and 3 defenders against us most times so there are plenty of defenders at the second level that can smother those. Yesterday, NE got home with a 3-man rush. Morse got beat (sucks for OL players because they are usually only noticed when something negative happens), but Allen started to flee the pocket a bit early too and just about ran into the arms of the defender. -

Has Josh checked it down enough to make this kind of evaluation about our RBs? I honestly don't think so. A runningback who is open in the flat is honestly the last place Allen looks if he looks there at all. The Bills FO targeted a running back like Cook and went after RBs with hands in the offseason (Washington RB) and acquired Hines because they think this is a gap in our game. Hines is also rather good at kickoff returns. But I think the gap of throwing to a RB is with Allen's habits and processing, not the ability of the players we have. This is not the same as hating on Allen. We have a good if not great offense, and Allen is a engine that makes it run. Utilizing all his weapons though will make it that much harder for teams to defend him the way they do. I think at this point if Dorsey wants to get Cook or our other running backs involved that way he has to simply design plays where throwing to them is Allen's primary read on schedule. So kind of funny, but design the check down plays to isolate our RBs against defenders in the flats at the 2nd level. -

A lot of dirty play from that GB squad - thought our game with them was chippy and damn near got out of hand a few times. Walker is an idiot. -

The one I saw was down the seam had Edmunds trailing and our 2 safeties bracketing the receiver. There was another he threw into triple coverage that was tipped and recovered by Milano. Jones just made up his mind to force it down the middle. The Bills were willing to give up the 3-4 yrd quick outs to the flat all day, and mostly played Tampa 2, except for a few blitzes, like the one where Elam got beat for the TD while playing man. Hard to throw those deep seam routes even against LBs or slot corners with 2 safeties back there. -

Agree. It was dumb to throw it into triple coverage. Jones did that twice, so of course it looks like a mess of hands and bodies going for the breakup or the ball. -

Yup. If he stays healthy and has Allen as his QB he will pass that mark. -

Leodis.... I was at the Vikes game where Moats knocked Favre out of the NFL. The backup QB came in and smoked Leodis over and over. He should have been his own brand of cigarettes. -

Talk about poor taste and not reading the room. A tad too soon for gallows humor I think.
