There was a linebacker inside and if the pass is in front of Jones Miami's #28 has him lined up for a de-cleater. I cannot say with certainty that Josh did not throw it where he did to give Zay a chance to avoid what would be certain destruction from a defenseless position. The linebacker should have dropped back a bit and taken away that throwing lane, but was a non-factor and took him self out of the play seeming more concerned with keeping Allen in the pocket. After that Zay did a good job of reversing the field and getting the ball over the goal line. Another earlier slant to Josh's left seemed to be right on target, but I think there was another to his right later in the game that was definitely behind, so mostly conjecture on my part with the Zay throw.

My guess is that Allen has never been asked to throw slants and so many underneath routes (ever) in his brief college QB career with coaches drooling over his arm strength, but I think that this was the plan going in today. Daball, knowing that Miami would take a page out of Belichick's game plan, knew they would focus on containing Josh after what he did to them the first time (NE did that better), take away the deep routes (playing off our receivers), and only allow the quick reads in front of coverage. I think Daboll is perfectly aware that Josh needs to work on his short game and used a somewhat meaningless game to do just that. Now they have more film and can go to work with him this offseason on pre-snap reads and improving the mechanics on those slants and the touch on those swing and wheel routes.

And that is why the players like playing for McD... he is not perfect, but he does get them to ball for him. -

He needed the talk apparently... what is good to see is our young guys taking steps in the right direction. Like that they used him on the edge to rush the passer. That size and length just looks the part of an edge rusher. -

Easy to create picks and confusion with bunch formations, crossing routes. An announcer last week said that Belichick always believes in playing man - feels it always creates more pressure on a QB even when a defender is just trailing a receiver. Not that I like Belicheat, but his defenses and teams rarely get blown out. -

Been looking for that stuff from him... instead of the weakness arm tackles. -

This may be the point you rest Josh - just saying... it is getting more than a bit chippy and I sense cheap shots on the horizon. I know, turning in my man-card for my girly, nervous-nelly card. -

Cover your eyes... Darr is up. I like the way the ref says "this is the end" seems ominous. -

Why the Phins would do anything other than run is beyond me - it is like watching a Bills-coached game. Let's not do what the Bills D cannot stop. -

Here's the schizophrenic defense we have grown to love and hate. A couple dominant plays... soft zone and give up the 1st down... rinse and repeat. -

The good thing about that whole mess is that 1st Josh gave himself up and slid, 2nd he still kept his head on a swivel and managed to lean away from that Kiko missile - though he still managed to get a knee to Allen's head. Kiko, may say that it is hard to make those last second decisions, but he continues to launch himself leading with the crown of his helmet at QB's. Like Hughes he is a guy with a reputation and will never get the benefit of the doubt. Just needs to play smarter if there are two neurons left in his head that can connect a thought. -

That is what I have noted... nothing deep, taking slants, and a few comeback and drag routes short of the sticks. Could be they just are trying to get "live" work on that aspect of his game while you can do it - I hate to say it, but the game is pretty meaningless otherwise. I guess folks could get out of sorts about draft position.... -

I have to see how Teller is blocking on those runs... seems to have outside leverage on an inside block - will have to see if it is in the All-22 review. -

I liked the one return by Boldin, would like to see more of that kid. Tryouts for the Bills special teams should be still open based on everything we have seen all year. -

Yep... especially with the safety playing up that far up in the middle of the field - something they have seen with that Bills alignment and route that made them feel they could jump it. I also don't like those out routes if there is cover 2 zone - just an automatic jump the route and a short trip to TD. -
