With the current cap situation for these 2 years giving up a 2nd would be the worst decision. Even a 3rd would be silly. More importantly factoring in that same financial forecast, how would you be paying them? Pegula is showing a reluctance to pony the money upfront…

For a 23 year old? I disagree. You have to factor in the playing time. Floyd was on the Rousseau stat line, actually less, when he signed that deal with the Rams that worked out around $16m a year. That was 3 years ago… All the while in his career he was playing 80-90% of the snaps and coming away with less production. The point is if Rousseau is averaging around the same statistics as guys who are playing 20-25% more snaps in a year, why wouldn’t he get paid if he sees more playing time? He’s a great defender against the run and only sees a portion of the pass rushing snaps… With the way the market is now if he sees more playing time and increases his production he absolutely gets paid.

I understand that sentiment which is why I referenced a guy in Brian Burns getting a mega deal who’s not much better but sees a significant amount more in playing time… Groot hasn’t played more than 60% of the snaps in a season and actually has decent production. Give him more playing time those numbers will only increase… Youd be paying him for production and potential. Both have significant upward trends with an increased playing time imo.

We all thought it was happening last season until near the very end… Maybe he’s sick of the “run it back” and like many have said is doing it just to get started on the relocation there for Rachel. Don’t like it but he’s not what he was 2/3 years ago… would have hated it then. Best of luck to him on every day except the 2 he’s facing us.

That’s exactly it. Right now that’s high for a situational guy… Hes easily capable of more. Be that statistical, play time or both. What if he has a strong season? Guy as it stands averages 40 tackles, 10 TFLs, 6 sacks & 14 QB hits… all on limited use; he’s averaging around 55% of the defensive snaps over 3 years… last year was his highest @ 60%. More playtime is only going to make that price skyrocket… Again, he’s capable of it and still has ways to grow being relatively young in terms of experience at playing the position.

Think that’s a very fair assessment. The question becomes how much his agent is asking for him on a long term contract. With the way some of these contracts this off-season have been, it might get pricey. I mean look at Brian Burns, who I would say is about the production you’re probably going to get if Groot plays 75-90% of the snaps in a season, where you’re getting around 9.5 sacks on the year (for an average). That guy just collected 5yr/$150m… Now I’m not saying that’s what Groot will get but the expected play time for him is going to increase this year. If he pans out even similar to Brian Burns stats do you pay him something similar? Someone will if that happens. Kid is ultra talented at what you said; defending the run and is still relatively raw to football; 6/7 years of playing the position? A lot of potential in him.

Thats just an excuse. We’ve sniffed the SuperBowl once and even then we got blown out by the Chiefs. I have faith in McDermott as long as he’s the coach. There’s no other option. But predicating the results of other people isn’t applicable to any or every situation. Furthermore, there’s a longer list on heavily tenured coaches who’ve never won a SuperBowl.

Revert back to the final seasons with Big Ben, they refused to build an OLine to protect him and facilitate the ground game. I don’t get it. Their identity and mantra is all about being a hard nosed, take it to you team but the intricacies of today’s football show you have to have complimentary pieces. Get RBs and WRs when you have no line play or semblance of QB… Sure they tried with Trubisky and Pickett but they weren’t and are not the answer for sustained success. Neither is Wilson. Speaking of Wilson, when Seattle where stuck in that myriad of mediocrity they were drafting and signing younger guys pretty much every year until they got it right with Wilson. Don’t know why teams choose a different Avenue. Even the Pats were drafting guys at relatively high picks to back up Brady which in turn netted them more capital in the form of trades. To an extent, yes. But it wasn’t broke and we dominated. Sure it was just the regular season and we faltered in the Playoffs but there was always a chance to make it work with what we had. Now, at least imo, is the time to just focus and go all in on riding the talent of Josh. Give him everything and anything to be even better than he has.

I like Pittsburgh and they fact they are always trying to be a contender and never settle but at some point they have to realise the problem is their offense and need to apply the appropriate finances on that side of the ball.

This has been discussed to the extreme here… Josh is winning at least one MVP and multiple Lombardi’s. The other coin? Who knows. Pat would have walked into a sh-t scenario like Josh did. Maybe he makes it? Maybe he doesn’t. The sure thing is, again, the Chiefs and Josh being the success they have been. Reality is our guy is just as valuable and dominant as Pat without the accolades.

Lets say we stand pat @ 28… Do they give up 35 & 66/71? Probably not as they pick 27 anyway… Maybe Washington do 36 & 67 to get to 28?

Commitment to the game and staying in peak shape. Maybe they believe it’s his number one priority?

My thinking is they are happy with Ty Johnson and are giving him an opportunity to get more money and have themselves as the fall-back option. There’s still a lot left on the market, RB isn’t that much of a concern imo. Safety should be their priority.
