The State/County is not giving them anything. The State will own the stadium. The Bills will lease it. The State will get their money back by year 22 of the deal. After that it is new revenue. I don’t understand why everybody thinks this is a handout. It is no different than a commercial developer building a property and leasing it to Starbucks. No one thinks greedy Starbucks is getting a handout.

The City/County was fully supportive of a new stadium near Qualcomm. Spanos sabotaged it by insisting on a downtown site that was really tight. traffic and parking would have been difficult. It wasn’t very popular. Plus, in CA, those types of tax measures need a super majority (2/3) to approve. Very hard to do. That referendum to raise hotel taxes had two strikes against it. Bottom line: Spanos wanted to leave. SD wanted to keep the the Chargers. San Diego was probably not a veiled threat.

Go from one bad stadium to another.

Kind of weird that the witness did not see a stopped car on the side of the road. -

I don’t think Booth will be there at #25. Would definitely support that selection though. -
I forgot about that. I know their attendance has been at the bottom of the league. Did that change last season? Any chance they would go to Columbus?

I don’t think the Chargers move anytime soon. They need that 2nd team revenue to help pay for that stadium. I bet the Chargers would have to pay dearly to relocate both to the Rams and to the NFL.

While I won’t count the chickens until they start excavation, it appears Bills fans dodge a huge bullet. Bills are staying where they belong! What are everyone’s predictions for the next moves and/or additions for the rest of this decade? Other than Washington possibly moving to Virginia (not a big change) I kind of think not much will happen.

No, that is not it. There was some chatter the Bills would have to play temporarily somewhere else while stadium is built. Toronto and Penn State were thrown out there.

I tend to agree with you. I think the amount of blowback he is getting is excessive. But with that said, when someone is announcing to the world that a professional athlete has passed, it is more important to be compassionate than competitive. Take a moment to make sure it is informative but respectful instead trying to be first. -
That the Bills are getting some sort of giant handout.

it is all getting distorted. Bad for everybody. So stupid.

Reports are that the State will recoup their outlay by the 22nd year of the deal. After that it is new revenue. But I’m sure someone will say a new stadium does not help the local economy. “Just look at the studies BS”. How much would it cost with the loss of taxes and revenue as well as figuring out what to do with Highmark when, not if, the Bills left?

There was talk that the Bills would have to play elsewhere for a season while this new stadium is being built. Is that still a possibility with this plan? I haven’t heard any news on that lately.

These keyboard warriors are so desperate to be the first with the info they don’t take the time to think it through. -
I think the headline is misleading. The Bills are not getting a subsidy. NYS owns the stadium. Not the Bills. Its like a commercial developer building a strip mall and leasing it to Verizon or Starbucks. Like the Bills with PSLs, naming rights, etc., Verizon will use that leased space to sell phones for a huge profit. NYS will get their money back over the life of the lease. No one says Verizon or Starbucks is getting a big subsidy. What am I missing?
