I don’t think the coaches were expecting peterman to get through the season. I believe their plan was to get through the first quarter maybe half a season tops then play Allen. I don’t think they envisioned not getting a first down and having 2 turnovers in the first half. Some of this is on the OC, wide receivers, oline as well. As much as everyone wants to hate on peterman that was a full team effort at sucking against one of the best defenses in the league on the road in poor conditions.

McBeane's way of rebuilding makes no sense
Rocbillsfan1 replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only thing I like about last year is at least the streak is over I don’t think people realize how big of a problem that would have been for the new process of moving forward with a rebuild and having that hanging over your head. -
Exactly most bills fans just love to yell and scream. Just keep crying in your beer guys. For once though this org is doing the right thing by clearing us of all the past mistakes. Whaley screwed us by maxing out on a 8-8 or 9-7 ceiling while relying on a lot of vets and giving out some big contracts. I love some of the former players that were good and left over the years but this org needed to tear it down and build with a window that can stretch out far into the future.

Nobody should be doubting Beane or McDermott
Rocbillsfan1 replied to SoCoBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It’s a dumpster fire for a reason. Everybody thought we were tanking last year and when it finally happens people act all surprised. If Brandon Beane ends up picking the qb mlb, and defense tackle for the next 15 years it could be the best draft in bills history and you are ready to already fire him. Also add in the fact that he may have been giving us help last year on the dl to get white and Dawkins two players Carolina supposedly liked you could have a QB, left tackle, shut down corner, MLB, and DT in two years. That would be a huge success. Give this guy until the end of 2019 where he gets a chance to add more veteran talent and a bunch of top tier draft talent. Or you could just keep whining all year up to you. Having try hard tailor or paying a boat load of money for Sam Bradford to mentor Allen would have been just as big of a waste IMO. Let the kid play for !@#$s sake. We are married to Allen for better or worse for the next 3 to 4 years. -
Hypothetical 2019 scenario, please comment
Rocbillsfan1 replied to elltrain22's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Look another person who thinks the bills will pick a qb at the top of the draft lol. Unless Allen has a career ending injury he will be the bills qb for the next couple of years. Unless maybe you could actually provide some type of proof or evidence of this being possible like giving one example of this ever happening. -
The difference is for the first time ever we have a top 10 qb to develop that was rated a first round pick and a top young MLB who is the qb of your defense. Other than that it’s totally the same though.

Another person in denial of reality there is no way the bills are picking a qb early next year none. How is Allen even suppose to look good by your estimates behind this oline and wr crew? -

You gotta trade McCoy now... right?

It’s the right thing for the team and for McCoy who has been nothing but a leader since being here. I thank you for your service McCoy. Maybe you can get a fourth? -

How long are Beane's and McDermott's contracts for

Why do people keep calling them a non playoff team? You know every year is different right? They had a better team than us last year and they got much better than us in the offseason. -

I'm not saying they are the 89 cowboys, how bout just taking a step back and seeing the big picture. The good news is you can take Sundays off of football for the rest of the year if you'd like if you can't stomach it. Personally I'm going to really enjoy watching the progression of some of the younger guys on this team who I think could make up a good core moving forward. -

See Cowboys 1989 thread and take a deep breath and move away from the ledge. -
This year is all about evaluting and seeing improvement from the young guys. Good news is Allen has to be the starter moving forward. Allen made some decent throws. Edmunds caused a fumble and made a few decent plays. Milano looked ok along with White. Oline looks like garbage but Dawkins seemed to do ok. Run defense was better and I really don't get the hate for star. He did his job today and wasn't the reason we gave up 40 plus points. Oh and the punter did good minus that one punt.

1989 Cowboys - an example of early process
Rocbillsfan1 replied to dubs's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I felt the same way. The future looks bright to me because they are actually doing the rebuild the right way which is meant to be painful. NBA teams do this all the time. In this case though we hopefully have our franchise guy and now it's all just about building around him. The hard part is over. Now it's all about building after this season is over. My example of this was when the Derrick Rose went down with an ACL injury in the playoffs and the Bulls really needed to evaluate their roster at this point. They had lost to Miami the year before in the playoffs. They needed to find another young star to pair Rose with especially coming off of an injury but instead they were the try hard Bulls that year just like the Bills last year and they made the playoffs and won a series because they had a good coach and a good system and no quit. But looking back is was 100% the wrong decision. They needed to tank and rebuild the roster and it set them back years and now they have finally opted for that process years past when they should have done it. I don't expect the Bills to be continually bad for years to come but I hope we get a top pick while Allen, Dawkins, White, Edmunds, Milano, Phillips all get valuable experience and look better by the end of the year doing it. -
Patrick Mahomes Lighting up the Chargers

I think the answer is easy. They weren't going to let Whaley draft another QB being a lame duck GM and Mcdermott wasn't going to go out on a limb and have a QB picked without having his guys in the front office in charge of helping him pick one. Plus I think they had an idea there were going to be a bunch of potential first round Qbs this year which proved to be correct. I still think Darnold was their first choice though if they had the first pick. -
1989 Cowboys - an example of early process
Rocbillsfan1 replied to dubs's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well at least one fan gets it. Everyone thought they were tanking last year but in reality last year was mainly just an evaluation and all about acquiring future cap space and assests to acquire a QB. Well we now have a potential franchise QB, Franchise MLB and stud defensive tackle for years to come. The first two being the hardest to find. If those picks hit it will be the best draft in Bills history and people are ready to fire him already. Bills fans really sound like a bunch of whiny children right now just because we somehow stumbled into the playoffs last year. I think a lot of Bills fans and people on this message board don't understand rebuilds. We now have the ability to go get a bunch of starters or depth via free agency and if handled correctly with trading down if we get a top pick could add 8-10 starters to this team next year and keep moving forward from there. Brandon Beane is doing this the right way and people are just being ridiculous because they want to be good right now. -
That's my point we had a lot of holes last year too. Last year was a mirage. It was unfortunate that Wood and Incognito retired. That really hurt. We finally will have money for free agents next year but I wouldn't give out long term contracts unless the player is still young and really good. But most likely just trying to find some avg starters or good backups mixed in with trying to get a lot of draft picks for next year is the plan and probably has been since the start. This year is a throwaway year and pretty much has been from the start. I wouldn't start to judge Beane negatively until after free agency and the draft next year. If I'm the Bills I'm trying to turn that top 5 pick and top second round pick into potentially at least 5 starting caliber players next year by trading down. Add that with free agency I could see 8-10 new starters alone next year.
