A lot of movies in this thread fall short of the “funniest movie ever” designation. It seems to have morphed into a general “funny movie” thread. IMO.

A Christmas Story The first time I saw it, I laughed hysterically. My wife insists that we watch it every year. After a few years I couldn’t stand to watch it anymore. Now I am back to watching it again.

I like woodworking, but I mostly just make bookcases. They’re easy and don’t require much design or imagination.

My wife was the yearbook editor for a few years at the High School where she works. Many people didn’t see the point. They all have pictures on their phones, and on Facebook, etc. Her comeback was to point out that in twenty years or more, those pictures will be lost. They really need something tangible to hold onto if they want to save the memories.

I was raised Catholic, with pretty strict adherence to all the rules. Same with my wife, along with a large number of friends and family members. My observation is that in every family there are a small number of people who are the True Believers. The True Believers adhere to all the rules, and use good old Catholic guilt and fear to try to get other family members to follow along. Most people tolerate the True Believers and go along if they are part of a family event. Some people avoid family events, partly because they don’t want to have a confrontation with the True Believers. This I find to be sad, but it is what it is.

Referring to Eddie and the Cruisers... 1) my wife has convinced me that it is a bad movie 2) I also enjoy Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives! and I know that’s a bad movie.

I have many family ties to UConn, so rooting for the women’s b-ball team is something I do so that I can have at least one team to root for that will likely win. Other teams I root for are SU football and b-ball, and the Bills. I hate all that is ND, and the fact that Lou Holtz always came across as an arrogant jerk didn’t help. I didn’t think UConn would win the tournament this year because they don’t have a dominant post player and rely instead on outside shooting. But loosing to ND is painful.

I saw that he was experienced in some sort of league. Aren’t there any high school/college/semi-pro Uncle Rico types around here?

The most scared I’ve been in a while would be driving on the Thruway in a whiteout. What do you do? If you stop, you could get stuck, and you might get rammed from behind. If you keep going you could hit another car, or hit the guardrail, or go into a ditch. I was able to slowly keep going until I could see again, but the pucker factor was huge. I’ve had a colonoscopy three times, and the prep has gotten easier. More water and less awful jug of sludge. The anesthesia has also gotten easier; with the Michal Jackson drug there isn’t much of a hangover. I’ve also put a teen age daughter on a plane for a trip to France by herself. I don’t want to think about that again. That was an awful summer without her around and not really knowing how it was going for her. That was before the internet was ubiquitous so we weren’t able to check in with her very often.
