Did you forget that he kicked an onside kick that backfired and the Bills took that starting field position and turned it into 7 points? Did you also forget the part where he kicked a field goal on 3rd and 1 at around the 15 yard line, with 12 seconds still on the clock, which is MORE than enough time for a shot to the end zone? Those two decisions very possibly cost the Patriots the win today. Is that what you call "outcoaching?" This board would be (rightfully) INCENSED if McDermott had pulled some crap like that.

Yes, turnovers are part of the game. Teams do expect to get turnovers, yes. Are you really going to start the "well if it wasnt for that play, we wouldn't have won!" BS? Well if Josh wouldn't have thrown that one pick, we would have been up by six there, not three. I can play that game too. I can pick out random plays and say that if that play didn't happen, the outcome would have been different. I said it earlier in this thread - Welcome to the NFL, where 61% of games are won by one possession or less, and 28% are won by three points or less. The overwhelming majority of games in the NFL come down to the last drive, where one team makes a play. Today, it was our team that made that play.

Another HUGE takeaway from today is that the Bills are now 4-0 in the division. The absolute best Miami can be if they win all remaining division games is 4-2, as they've already lost to BUF and NE. So if the division were to come down to that tie breaker, the Bills are sitting pretty.

Coaching is not always fully measured in wins and losses, though. In 2017, the Bills traded away a bunch of star players. Watkins. Darby. Dareus. I remember most people on this board, and even in the media, say that the Bills were "tanking." McDermott took that talent-deficient roster, with Tyrod Taylor at QB, to our first playoff appearance in 17 years. In 2018, the Bills had quite possibly the worst roster in football as they continued to shed contracts. Their top receiver was an UNDRAFTED ROOKIE. McDermott some how, some way, got 6 wins out of a team that had no business winning more than 3 from a talent perspective. In 2019, we started to see the fruits of the rebuild. Another playoff appearance and a 10-win season. The point is, was his record "setting the league on fire" as you stated? No, but I would argue that McDermott, in his first three years, did more with less (from a talent perspective) than arguably any coach in the NFL. He's now 6-2 this year. Overall record is 31-25. Winning record, with 2 of his 3.5 seasons played with severely talent-deficient rosters. Get outta here with all that truth! We don't want none!

Actually, quite the opposite. We gameplanned for our opponent's weakness and for the weather. NE is horrible against the run. The wind was blowing 20-30 miles per hour. Why in the hell would we come out and try to throw the ball all over the field in that kind of wind, when we know that the Patriots couldn't stop the run? If we had, would you have been complaining that the coaching staff doesn't know what they're doing because anybody with a brain can see that the Patriots can't stop the run? It's pretty basic football gameplanning. You gameplan for your opponent's weakness. I'm certainly glad Sean McDermott is the coach of this team, not you.

It's a game of inches. If that ball comes out a quarter of a second earlier, before his knee touches the ground, we have the ball at the 30, down 6 with a shot to take the lead, after Josh had just run us down the field to score.

I understand that. But the contract isn't for one season, so saying "we could have had Phillips for 4 million!" is 100% wrong. Yes, Phillips is getting 4 million this season, but that means literally nothing because the ONLY way to get that, is to pay him 16 million more over the next 2 seasons. The contract is 3 years, 30 million. It's not 1 year, 4 million.

3 years, 30 million. I'm no math genius, but.....

10-4. I was just pointing out that I don't like to use 2018 stats when talking about the current coaching staff, including McDermott. That year was the "tank" year of the rebuild and somewhat of an anomaly that is not reflective (in my opinion) of how good our coaching staff is overall.
