We're turning Allen into Tyrod
IgotBILLStopay replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Some truth here. playing a team with a decimated outside corner position, so few shots taken despite having decent time to throw. -
Maybe it was the rust coming back from injury - but Milano appeared to be the biggest culprit out there. It seemed the Iggles were targeting Wallace and Milano on every offensive play.

I wonder if trade deadline woes contributed to our play yesterday. Do the players know some of them are being discussed by Beane? Remember how Zay's family knew they were in trade talks well before the outsiders knew. Even at the time, I suspected it was affecting his play. Beane mentioned confidentiality if trade talks - but even if he doesn't have leaks, they could be coming from the counter parties. This might seem like finding excuses but a. Yesterday (and to a small extent, even against Miami), the play on defense was significantly poor compared to earlier games. b. Defensive schemes' execution depends on trust and discipline. For the first time, it did not appear the players were there for each other. c. This pattern of poor play surrounding the trade deadline has been seen the past two years as well d. Questionable roster decisions and play calling - why Foster? Why no Mackenzie? Showcasing talent prior to trade deadline?

Here are White's interception stats relative to draft peers. This year even his worst critic cant keep him away.

Tre has been an elite shut-down corner since he entered the league. If there was one weakness the past two years, it was that he didnt get his hands on the ball enough. This season, he will likely set a personal record for INTs. I think you can safely add "Ball Hawk" to "Shut-Down Corner" now.

Iggles have issues with both their secondary and the DL. So long as we do not commit stupid mistakes (penalties, turnovers), we should be fine. But can we play mistake free ball on Offense? I suspect the close Vegas prediction is because the oddsmakers are not convinced Bills can play mistake free ball. Otherwise our defense's prowess combined with their defensive injury woes should have made this a no-contest.

Cody Ford interception saves the day?!

Someone being lazy. Tre'davious just takes too long to type. Especially the apostrophe. -
Wonder why Frazier does not get mentioned. He has blended together a collection of early and late draft picks and free agent acquisitions including other team discards and the given the defense a complete makeover. And they have performed swimmingly. Is it that execs think McD deserves more credit than Frazier? Or is it that he is not "young" anymore and hence not so "cool" anymore?

Besides Aaron Rodgers, others who sat out at least 10 games despite being drafted in the first round are Rivers, Eli Manning, JaMarcus Russell, Jay Cutler, Goff, Mahomes, Haskins and Paxton Lynch. Even Brees (he was the first pick of the second round) waited until his 17th game to start. Mayfield and our JA would also have sat out per plan, but Peterman and Tyrod were so bad / hurt that the plans had to be changed. So it is not really a given that teams want to play most high drafted QBs early. That being said, Winston, Mariota, Tannehill, Luck, RGIII, Darnold, Newton, Bradford, Stafford etc. did start in their very first game. I agree with you that the latter is more likely than the former - But it is not as overwhelming as you characterize it to be.

Demarcus Ware Talks Bills on Rich Eisen Show
IgotBILLStopay replied to DefenseWins's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
True dat! Me too. ? Just to clarify - when I said uninformed opinion, I did not mean general football knowledge - but knowledge about how the Bills defense has being actually doing on the field. I dont think DeMarcus Ware has watched, recorded and rewatched every single play from every single Bills game like many on this board. You know what I mean? Here are the statistics for the Bills pass and run defense: In yards per rush attempt Bills are 10th at 3.9 https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-yards-per-rush-attempt In yards per pass attempt Bills are 3rd at 5.5 https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-yards-per-pass-attempt Of course, the above stats do not factor quality of opposition into account. So here is how each of our opponents' offense fared overall in yds per rush attempt and yds per pass attempt https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/yards-per-rush-attempt NY Giants 4.9 Tennessee 3.8 Miami 3.3 New England (this was a big surprise to me) 3.3 NY Jets 3.2 Cincinnati 2.9 Allowing 3.9 yards per rushing attempt, we have actually done worse in rush defense than other teams against 5 of our six opponents. Looking at pass defense, here is how our opponents' offenses have fared in passing offense: https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/yards-per-pass-attempt New England 7.0 Tennessee 7.0 Cincinnati 6.2 N.Y. Giants 5.9 Miami 5.4 NY Jets 4.6 Allowing just 5.5 yds per game, we are better in pass defense than other teams against 4 of our six opponents. Clearly the statistics indicate that pass defense, as compared to run defense, is where our real strength is. -
Demarcus Ware Talks Bills on Rich Eisen Show
IgotBILLStopay replied to DefenseWins's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am sorry but Demarcus Ware's appears to be an uninformed opinion - he says we are a great run defense and dont make mistakes and make offenses one dimensional (pass heavy). The most interesting tidbit from that segment was delivered by Rich Eisen. He said he has heard rumors that the Pats are going after a real big fish before the trade deadline. Much bigger than Mohamed Sanu. -
Tim Graham interview with Brandon Beane
IgotBILLStopay replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Summary of Brandon Beane comments on The Tim Graham Show – October 23, 2019 1. Attitude in locker room no different at 5-1 from 0-0. Folks are hungry. Hyde was texting Secondary Coach and being self-critical after seeing film before even the coach had looked at it. 2. Trade deadline – Will get more skill, but that is not the only criterion. Fit (culture) is important in deciding to trade for. 3. Trade interest doesn’t start GM to GM. Usually an Asst. GM to Asst. GM type would happen based on personal contacts and, if there is some interest, then GMs will get involved. 4. Are Bills buyers or sellers? Neither. Not shopping anybody actively, but listening. 5. KB trade – happened at last minute unexpectedly (for Beane) because Carolina relaxed their demands. Comp picks were a consideration in the KB trade. (many TBD posters will like that). 6. Philosophy is building through the draft. Trading a first or second – usually agent will get involved – so the player can be signed long term. 7. Some stupid questions too – asking if team’s projected draft position is a factor in a trade. Duh! 8. TG kissing some Beane ass – complimenting Beane on his staff – says Bills never had such a competent staff. Beane did say he went for competence rather than just knowing them from before. 9. Beane – confidentiality of trade talks important – don’t want to leak things that so and so is on the block. 10. Some more on how mesh and fit is important especially mid-season. 11. Most important question - TG tried – asked for clues regarding players Bills are interested at the deadline that we shd be researching – Beane sidestepped and said how about Jerry Rice. That may be an indication that Bills are looking to upgrade at receiver. Or not. Take it for what it is.- 23 replies

How to beat Cover 0 - New England
IgotBILLStopay replied to Protocal69's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Aaron Rodgers is a stud! That post route completion was a beauty. The key for a QB to beat cover zero is to either: 1. Get the ball out of your hands quickly with Screens / Sweeps etc. 2. Buy time by scrambling away from the free rusher and give the receiver time to reach the center of the field. -
Aaron Rodgers and Mahomes are the poster boys for having a QB sit and learn. Brady, Josh Allen (when he was hurt last year), Kyle Allen (this year) all benefited from sitting for a bit. Yet the Mannings, Luck, Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott are examples of throwing a QB into the deep end right away. Bottomline - every QB is different and no one method will work for everyone. That said, the article is very well written. I did not know the specifics of the Rams with Goff and it makes for an interesting read. Maybe Darnold had the same issue vs. the Pats, eh?
-
THE OG: 1) Browns: Josh Allen - I am not yet sold on Lamar being the savior with the arm. JA should have gone #1 if we knew then what we know today. He is a competitor and is clutch. His running is a bonus. 2) Jets - Darnold - Yesterday's seeing ghosts notwithstanding, Darnold is not a bad QB at all. 3) Bills - The other Allen (UDFA - Kyle Allen) Take the third member of the Jordan Palmer trainee group 4) Cardinals - Mayfield - Cards take him in the hopes he turns into a poor man's Brees 5) Ravens - Lamar goes here - no change 6) Some other QB needy team - Mason Rudolph

BTW am I the only one who thinks the pats cover zero appears to be based on what Poyer and Hyde (especially Poyer) have been doing for McD's defense? Poyer lines up at LOS shows blitz but sometimes drops back and sometimes blitzes.Hyde knows when Poyer is gonna do what so knows when to watch his receiver and when to watch the QB and comes up with the interceptions. It is a defense that is complicated and you have to find he right personnel for it. It can go crazy bad if you are. It careful. Does anyone remember crazy Rex wanting to do a bit of that same concept with Mario Williams? Mario couldn't believe he was being asked to drop into coverage.

I stand corrected. NOT A CHANCE!! The silver lining. I am glad we got the right QB from the 2018 Draft. Darnold 11-30 86 yards 4 INTs one fumble with 5 min left -

FWIW, the Pats are only 9.5 pt favorites against the Jets. Just for reference, the Bills were 16.5 pt favorites against the Fins. Also GMFB analyst Kyle Brandt predicted a Jets victory while Schrager said Pats pull out a close win. Jets fans: -

IgotBILLStopay replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The jets are coming off an impressive win over a good Cowboys team (who just beat the Eagles 37-10) and will have Darnold, Mosley, Q. Williams and Jordan Jenkins back for the Pats rematch (they lost the first 30-14). And Pats looked very vulnerable against us. The jets definitely at least have a puncher’s chance. -
How Jets can win? Two teams in our division are going at it tonight. If Pats win, they will be 1.5 games ahead of us in the race to the division title. If the Jets win, their (and Darnold's) confidence will be through the roof and it will resuscitate their season - but they will still be 3 games back of the Bills. All in all, I am not yet ready to concede the Division title to the Pats - so rooting for the Jets by a smidgen here. Gilmore will take away Robbie Anderson - so it will be up to how well Crowder and Thomas make the other members of the Pats secondary and how well LeVeon Bell catches and runs out of the backfield that will likely determine the Jets offensive performance. On defense, Quinnen Williams finally seems to be living up to his draft pick status with the best game of his young career last week. Can he (and the rest of the line) get after Brady in time? The Bills did give the Jets a blue print to contain the Pats offense - let us see if Gregg Williams figures it out.

Look, we're gonna win this Sunday. Josh Allen's best game to date was last season's final game vs. the Fins. So he is going to do decently. But my interest in what this defense does rivals my interest in what Allen and company can do. The defense has me that excited. Miami has allowed 23 sacks through 5 games. They are particularly vulnerable from interior rushers - 6.5 out of the 23 are by DTs (which is a pretty high number). So while Murphy, Hughes, Johnson and Lawson will get theirs, I expect (and want to see) Ed Oliver (and Bigj9797 too) to show up with some sacks. Oh, if one can extrapolate from my limited film study, the fins also have shown a complete inability to pick up blitzers - so a few among Lorax, Milano, Edmunds and most importantly, Poyer shd also keep the official scorer busy with QB takedowns. We jump on em early, then Fitzy is gonna have to throw (not that he needs the extra incentive) - so sacks and interceptions expected (look for Poyer again)
