Game day experience from someone on crutches.
1ManRaid replied to 1ManRaid's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is more of a "general thing, but especially for those with limited mobility", but I should add that bringing a thick "stadium legal" seat cushion makes being stuck sitting through a while game MUCH more bearable. Also dress warmer than you think you'll need to. It's easier to take a layer off than to put one on that you didn't bring. That's how I stayed comfy sitting there for 4 hours. Getting lucky with our seats happening to have those padded add-ons already helped. -
I'm sure everyone from the "questions from a guy on crutches" thread were waiting with baited breath and will be relieved to hear I did in fact survive the game. 😄 Multiple people commented that I wouldn't enjoy myself, so I decided to make this thread to detail how it went. - We got to lot 4 right after 9am, and realized I severely overestimated parking demand for that time in the morning. Without even mentioning the crutches, we were directed to park right by the sidewalk across from the Bills Store, directly in front of the Thai food truck parked in the middle of the closed street. It was maybe even a closer walk to the gate than to the outhouses in the parking lot. Going early definitely seems to help avoid issues with accessibility, even without a handicapped parking tag. Other lots would be a further walk if you don't park right by an ADA drop off point. - All of the stadium workers were on point and friendly/helpful, without even having to ask. The ticket checker somehow intuitively knew my friend (who managed to fall behind in line) was with me and sent me in to sit and wait, prescanning my friend's ticket on my phone. A guest services worker then offered me a wheelchair ride in, and then walked us all the way to the elevator when I decided I didn't need a wheelchair yet. The security guy at the portal to the seats offered his hand to help me down the last few steps to the walkway after the game (stayed at my seat the whole game). As soon as I got to the concourse and stopped for a moment to remember which doors led to the elevator, a worker there spotted me and guided me to the elevators, and was once again offered a wheelchair. Once outside, a passing cart/shuttle randomly stopped and offered me a ride. It feels like everyone is trained to spot people in my situation and offer assistance. - As for the comment from someone in my other thread about having to deal with everyone standing all game, that didn't happen. Maybe it was just my section (section 312, row 23, seat 1 right on the aisle/50 yard line), but most people stayed seated with some getting up for 3rd/4th downs. Of course I won't let a bad knee stop me from properly cheering, so I was up then anyways. - The worst part of the whole experience was actually being in an aisle seat. Having to constantly move for people leaving/returning to their seats was super annoying. Considering I eat and drink immediately before and after the game, and go to the washroom before heading to my seat so I can just stay there the whole game, I'm going to aim for seats in the middle of the row next time. If I ended up wanting something from concessions, I could just have my friend get it when they go. Handicap seating is also available if you need it. Hopefully this at least somewhat informs anyone who might avoid going to a game based on assumptions of what the experience would be like. The entire experience was wholly enjoyable aside from the typical annoyances like local drunks going out of their way to harass and spew obscenities at a Panthers fan, who then decided to respond by defiantly provoking them back. I'll respond to any questions anyone might have.

How is having a kicker be a crappy long snapper on the off chance you have a kicker injury any better than just going for it on 4th down and going for 2? I'd much rather have no kicker for (part of) 1 game than a subpar LS every game. While that struggling kicker-turned-LS is practicing snaps, he's not practicing kicks, and will be an even worse backup kicker for it. In your proposed scenario, you now have a subpar backup LS snapping to a subpar backup kicker.

Thanks brotato. Still mulling over my options. All of the lots have ADA shuttle pickups, but only lots 7 and 1 have a stop where they will also bring you back after the game. Something about the shuttles not being allowed to cross the street after the game. Problem is I promised to play tour guide for my friend to show him the famous Buffalo tailgating, the best of which is all across the road on the western lots. You also reminded me of my university days, where for my "mature student" on-campus bachelor apartment they stuck me in the top floor of a 3 or 4 floor building with no elevator. Had to abuse the poor grocery delivery woman to lug it all up for me for a while until the university finally fixed their error and got me a base floor apartment. The roof of that top floor also had a leak leading to water coming in THROUGH MY CEILING LIGHT, which they were in no hurry to fix. Fun times. -

Probably last for me as well. On Tuesday the Canadian government is putting Covid testing requirements back in play, even for short/day trips fully vaccinated. -

That's not my experience. Also I'm not confined to a wheelchair or whatever, I just have a banged up knee and a neurological disorder that makes my brain think I'm supposed to be in pain. I'm capable of being on my feet for at least short periods. The next couple days after the game up till my birthday are going to suck, but I'm used to that. -

I'll be coming from the north, so I guess lot 5 or 7 near ADA lot 6/gate 6 would be the way to go. Thanks for the heads up. Aside from that, it's my friend's first Bills game, and I've already committed to playing tour guide and hobbling around to show him Bills tailgating. Even without an actual knee injury, that would probably use up what energy that already wonky knee has and would need the accommodations anyways lol. -

Fortunately I found the right phone number to call, and they are emailing me the map for where the shuttle service operates in their lots. Also was given information about their wheelchair service, and the possibility of Guest Services moving us to handicapped seating if needed. Hopefully I'll be able to manage our seats, they're close to my favorite. 300 section aisle seats at midfield, not too high up in the section. Always been a good experience there in the past. -

To be fair, with my fibro I don't usually need the crutches on the way IN. It's the 3+ hours of "where would you rather be" and fatigue that does a number on my nervous system and has me needing them on my way out. Worth feeling like crap the next couple days tho. 1. It's for my birthday. 2. The only games I've had ruined by drunks and idiots is when I've made the mistake of settling for tickets at the end of the 300 levels, especially during preseason. 3. I will admit to having my enthusiasm for the NFL severely dampened, but by the blatant refball highlighted by the Bucs game. Otherwise I live for the energy and atmosphere of a live Buffalo crowd. With the borders closed until now (and my friend not wanting to spring for more expensive MNF tickets in that weather), this is my first opportunity to return to my Bills since early 2019 season. *edit* I should add that we got lucky and scored aisle seats not that high up in the section, so accessibility shouldn't be much of an issue. At the last game I went to, the cool usher/security/whatever guy took one look at my crutches and instantly directed us to sit in the unused seats behind him right by the entrance, after asking and hearing that our seats were up in the back lol. I've messaged them on the "Contact Us" page, but will look for an appropriate number to call. -
I don't have my handicapped parking pass yet, and on top of my usual medical issues (fibromyalgia), I injured my knee earlier this week. About private lots: - How early do they open so I could get the nearest possible location? - How quickly do they fill up? - How much are they charging these days and have they started taking card payments instead of cash? Or should I bite the bullet and pay the $35/$40 for the nearest possible stadium lot? What time do THEY open? *edit* I Googled it and stadium lots open 9am.

Can't be that much of a consideration if he doesn't make the headline.

Looks like the Jets will be getting a lot of games in the UK

I bet the Bills are actually on the Canada list behind the scenes, and they just don't want to poke the beehive re: stadium/moving rumors. -
It's like these "fact checking" companies that file a claim as "false" because the claim says whatever happened at 4:20pm, but their "research" shows it was actually 4:24pm, so the entire claim is false.

Meyer- (kicks Lambo) "I'm the head coach, I can do whatever I want!" Khan- "Yeah, about that..." I think Khan was saving Meyer from Lambo kicking back the next time and possibly blasting his testes up into his own throat.

Objectively, 10-3. Just off the top of my head... Titans- Blatant hold on Henry's big TD run. McKenzie's return TD called back on phantom hold. Jaguars- More uncalled false starts than I could count, blatant holds, uncalled Offside costing Allen a free play. Buccaneers- The elephant in the room, no more needs to be said. Might even be able to toss in another win from a variety of BS across the other two losses not against the Colts.

Ehhh...(sigh)...yeah... When he's good, he's REALLY good. But it's so inconsistently, it's feeling like his bouts of greatness are accidental when the match-up allows for it. Considering he was drafted with Josh (another raw prospect), I think he's had long enough to "put it together". At this point I'd rather just sign a vet and sacrifice Edmund's moments of brilliance for reliability that at least won't lose us more games than it wins.

Is this finally the year we make a big push for offense?
1ManRaid replied to whorlnut's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not to mention that without horrendous refball, we're 10-3 and first seed, or 9-4 with a win over the defending champs at worst.
