When Allen was drafted, it was known that he had both huge upside or downside and also that he would take awhile to develop. Until this game, there was improvement from last year and the ability to comeback against the Jets and Bengals shows a resiliency that many recent Bills quarterback have not had. I wonder if he would have done the same thing in this game. We will never know since he was (cheaply) knocked out of the game, I certainly think that his chances would have been better than Barkley. Allen was terrible today, but your defense is extremely good. I am not going to call Allen a bust based on playing a defense that has also recently shut down Goff and Big Ben. Allen needs to reduce the bad plays and inaccurate throws. If he is at the same level after the end of the season with no further improvement, then maybe it is time to question whether or not he is a bust but it is way too early to do so now.

The only problem that I have with the refs today is a major one. The Patriots got away with knocking our starting quarterback out of the game on a clear cheap helmet to helmet play. Not only was the guy not ejected but, oops someone held on the Buffalo offense, penalties offset, no consequence at all, game on. Allen was bad, but he has come on strong on the fourth quarter in other games. We do not know if he would have today, but he should have had the chance. The interceptions and punter cost us the game today, but that still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. On the bright side, the team was not thoroughly outclassed as in other years against the Pats. The defense can hang with anyone. Less mistakes on the offense and this is a playoff team.

NFL players can realize that it is time to go without creating the drama that he did. He quit in the middle of a game, He made a commercial mocking that decision. That makes him scum to me. The fact that he is still making this an issue today validates this.

Gore isn’t getting younger-But he is still productive this year and his running style fits this offense Singletary (who we all love) came up lame-He wont be gone very long if at all, two weeks at the most and Yeldon can handle 5-10 carries a game Yeldon they don’t trust too much yet-Not a Yeldon fan as a starter, but he is a good pass catching back and you could do a lot worse as a backup DiMarco is as useless as used toilet paper-I disagree here, a good special teamer and has just enough on running and catching to give him a role on the offense. It is up for debate on whether or not today's NFL roster needs a traditional fullback, but DiMarco has fit that role well and is doing his job. Would I trade for Drake? Maybe a low round pick, but I think that it is more of a luxury than an urgent need. I would rather see them stick what what is on the roster now and add someone in the draft if the need comes up next year.

Maybe this has something to do with why Bodine was cut so quickly.

There is no doubt that losing Mosley hurt them, but injuries happen in every game and coaches are there to make the adjustments. McDermott and Daboll made up for the poor offensive strategy in the first half by doing this at the end. A little bit of a lucky break in a way for Buffalo, but it still takes good play and coaching to capitalize on it and come back like they did.

Yeah, but did you know that LeVeon Bell did not play for over 600 days? That was almost as bad as the Steelers/Seahawks super bowl where it felt like the announcers were getting commission for every time they said that Jerome Bettis's hometown was Detroit.

I am not comparing Allen to anyone good yet since he has a ways to go, but I remember a few Bills games in the 90's were Kelly and the offense were awful in the first three quarters and then would find a way to get it done in the end. Allen did that today but gets a big assist from the defense for only allowing eight points. He not going to get away with four turnovers in a half too many times, but a road win against a division rival is a good way to start the season. I give him a B- for the day.

That is garbage that his behavior is rewarded like this. Why did I see this coming a mile away?

I don't think that the Bills will specifically get screwed over but I could see the refs throwing a ridiculous amount of penalties on both teams throughout the game. 20 penalties last night, that game was atrocious to watch. I can only imagine being it worse with two younger less established teams like the Bills and Jets.

A sixth rounder for a guy we would have cut and even better, a chance to have him blocking for Brady against us. This is a brilliant move.

My unpopular opinion is that I always felt that Trent Edwards could have had a long career as an above average, but not elite starting qb if he had the right coaching.

I like Barkley as a backup. He is to this system what Matt Flynn was to the Packers. An otherwise marginal QB who has found his niche. I am not sure if Allen will succeed, but the next year or two is going to be finding that out. He has the upside to be a great player if everything works out. Barkley may move the ball a little more consistently short term, but at best you would end up with a similar situation as Fitz or Tyrod. A little change of pace and early success that goes pretty well for awhile until the defense figures them out within two years, bringing them down to earth and leaving Buffalo searching again for that franchise QB.

I am not surprised, many of our fans are just as confident in beating them. Both teams had a significant off-seasons along with a potential franchise QB in the second season. I could see where some of them would feel that way. Almost every fanbase is optimistic on opening day in a given season This will be a close one, but I have confidence that the Buffalo defense can hold them under 20. Whether Buffalo wins or not will depend on how well the new offense gels together.

The schedule is a favorable one for Buffalo besides the challenging stretch at the end. Many of these teams are on the lower tier of offense which should make the matchups favorable with Buffalo's defense even if the offense struggles in some games. I see a similar season to 2017 as far as a good start and a bit of a slide towards the end. I am predicting a 4-2 start and a 9-7 finish with Buffalo being in the playoff hunt until the very last week. The team is not too far away and I feel like next year will be when "the process" starts to pay off with a few playoff years ahead.

If Kaepernick stuck with the game after the controversy, I believe that he could have been a solid backup/stop gap starter for the rest of his career. A definite upgrade over the likes of Tyree Jackson, Ej Manuel and Nate Peterman. He did not decide to do that. He is not in game shape, he is in his third year removed from football and most importantly, his mind and passion are focused on different causes. This would have been a valid conversation in 2017, but today even if he wanted to, he would be nowhere near ready to play physically or mentally .

Defense, great and actually nearly flawless when the players that mattered were in the game. Offense showed flashes but were also sloppy at times. Rookies altogether looked great. Good-1st and 2nd defense, 1st string o-line, Oliver, Singletary and wade Bad- Bodine, Bojorquez, Tyree Jackson, Yeldon's fumble More positives than negatives overall.

I think that the offensive line will have a rough night due to lack of experience together and injuries. Allen will take a hit or two and look erratic but do enough to give everyone hope by making a couple big plays. The second and third units will all look good since this is a deep team with a lot of competition going on. Buffalo has never done well in the preseason even during the super bowl years. As long as no one is getting hurt and our new players are showing potential, I do not care what the final score is.

I did state that Troup and Graham were mentioned by me specifically because of who we could have had had instead. Maybe I should have clarified bettter or left that out to avoid confusion. Peterman, you have a point. Maybin didn't care and pretty much admitted that in an interview years later. Davis, Benjamin and Walker were good examples of people who made a choice. I think that the saddest thing in this is that the last 20 years have given us so much to choose from.

There are many bad players, but I am trying to exclude ones like Losman and Manuel who sucked but gave an honest effort. My all time worst- Vontae Davis-Not only did he do the unthinkable and walk from the team in the middle of the game, generate disrespect and scorn from many players in the NFL including non Bills , but a couple of months later, took part in a fanduel commercial on "why he walked away" like it was a cutesy thing. As if he did not learn a damn thing and was shameless enough to grab a few more bucks out of it. I hope that the money from the commercial was invested well, because I have a feeling that he will never make a cent from the NFL again after that stunt. Others Aaron Maybin- Held out, yet would have been considered a bust even if he was a 7th round pick.. On the list of many recent poor draft picks for the bills, this is the worst Nathan Peterman- OK, maybe he tried, but he was so bad that he made us pine for the days of Manuel, view an off the street washed up out of retirement career backup in Derek Anderson as an upgrade and see Matt Barkley as a potential savior. Kelvin Benjamin-Could have become the number one but mailed it in to the point where legends such as Kailen Clay and Ray Ray Mcloud were getting more looks than him. Darwin Walker-Who remembers this? A solid up and coming lineman for the eagles Was traded for Takeo spikes and seen as a perfect rebuilding block. Unfortunately he did care to be in buffalo and held out to the point where we gave him to the bears for just a 6th round pick The "consider the alternative" section Terrell Troup- Back injuries stopped him before he started. Can't fault him for that, but when you consider that local prospect and future NFL hall of famer Rob Gronkowski was there and projected by many to be Buffalo's 2nd round pick was passed over, this one hurts. TJ Graham-Why pick a pro bowl QB in Russell Wilson when you can trade up and reach for a receiver projected to go in the 5th round? Worked out as expected

Thought this said Josh Gordon for a second, lol. I think that the CB's are in a good position as is, however at the right price I would be open to this. A white and Norman backfield would be pretty sweet.

Works out great until he celebrates their miracle super bowl run by taking the o-line out for a road trip a couple of days before the game.

I remember Shawn Nelson, many including me thought that was a steal. During that MNF opener against New England(McKelvin fumble at the worst time part 1 of however many times it happened) he had a nice TD catch early in the gamr making it seem like maybe he was for real. Never really did much after that, but I remember that catch being on some Bills highlight reels for awhile after.

This would be a signing for the preseason, and not a bad one. Things are wide open after Kroft and Knox. If the others get injured or do not work out, you know what you have in Smith who can block and be an option in the red zone.

Cowherd has never liked the Bills or had any respect for them. That aside, the fact that he thinks that the one QB in last years draft less proven than Allen being added to one of the worst rosters in football is somehow suddenly a wild card contender speaks more to his lack of football knowledge than anything else.
