I don't think Defense is being scapegoated. Offense is getting the lions share of the blame for only mustering one TD in the 1st quarter. There seemed to be no coherent game strategy for facing the Texans top D on limited rest. O and D were out sync

Did they have mics in their helmets back then? The K-Gun was so successful because it was up-tempo, but they can do that now without having the QB call the plays. The QB instead gets to audible out of plays based on his read of the D But I agree, it would be fun to see, even if it will never happen

I think road teams are already at a disadvantage on Thurs night, esp if you're boarding a plane to fly across the country with only 3 days rest. But you're right it wasn't the cause of the defeat. It just made the task of facing the top D on the road that much harder. I wasn't overly surprised by the egg given the context. It all rests on our O. We know our D is crap and the offense will generally have to score over 25 to win, against anyone.

We don't do well against top Ds with good pass rush. If you can get pressure rushing 4, or with well-schemed blitzes, it exposes our lack of WR talent and overall back offensive scheme. Josh also struggles as he holds the ball too long and thinks he can make a play, but its harder to get away from the elite athletic pass rushers

I honestly think Beane needs to go, before McDermott. At least Sean coaches up a strong, tight lockeroom, even if his game day coaching struggles. McD predates Beane, so maybe he survives and we get a better GM...?

Almost always loses. Texans were always going to be a tough game, given how their D matches up against our O. But you throw in a short week and the Bills having to travel to Houston, makes it damn near impossible. I saw this game on the schedule and thought it was a likely "L". But the backup QB made me hope otherwise. In the end, the Texans D did what it does at home and with three days of opponents prep - it harassed and dominated. Unfortunately, McD and Brady couldn't create a game strategy that controlled field position and kept Josh's exposure to a minimum against that nasty pass rush. Moving away from Cook after the 1st drive was a huge mistake. But I give the team as a whole a pass. Playing on the road on TNF right after the big game against Tampa was a big ask.

Texans have always played us tough. Brady and McD get out-coached every time. Cant' gameplay for a ball-control, low scoring affair.

A new HC/GM might be just what we need, especially as we've seen Beane squander picks and resign average players to big contracts. Tend to agree with this, except Pitt might play us hard on the road and Cinci should be a W. I knew a short week in Houston against that defense would be tough. almost unfair. But the team is just flat and I don't think we win enough to do more than a WC road game. I'd like to say we win that, but depends on the matchup. The Bills just don't do well against teams with good pass rushes.

I just wonder if we've gotten to the point where our run D is such a liability and teams are planning for the feast that maybe we need to mix it up a bit. Not let teams come out the gate ramming it down our throats. See if we can't get them off script and get a lead, so they start trying to pass more. Every team knows at this point that our base D is nickel and our personnel does not play it well enough anymore to protect against the run.

Not sure that's true. Tucker's big run against us was in base nickel. Taron and Bernard ran into each other, Bosa couldn't hold the edge, Benford got consumed by a WR block, and Poyer took a bad angle and got leveled by a pulling G

The cat has been out of the bag for weeks - the Bills can't stop the run. Yet, we continue to trot out a base nickel. Even when we go 3 LBs, we aren't that effective. Most of that seems to be personnel But maybe we should mix in more of the Bear Front. I feel like I saw some three DT packages against the Bucs 5 DL would mean 2 LBs, 2 S, and 2 CBs...? Not crazy. Basically sub out Taron for a DT, as opposed to a third LB. Ideally one of the DEs like Epenesa could drop back and defend a short zone as needed

It's basically the same outside rush that teams break for long TDs. Henry, Bijan, Achane and now Tucker. It seems our LBs and SS can't fill that outside hole reliably and the DE/DT that side can't disrupt on that side. CBs can't get off their WR blocks either. Collective fail it seems

What about Daboll taking over as HC? If McD doesn't it around this season, Daboll and a new DC might be a reasonable option to balance continuity with new blood and approach

Is Hardman really any better than Samuel, who has been chronically under-utilized by Brady. I'd love to see some all-22 on Samuel and Moore. Are they not open, are they not utilized, are they horrible blockers and thus on the bench in favor of Shavers?

Nah, bring in a new regime. Josh and the other leaders will keep the continuity and lockeroom culture in place. But we need a HC with a coaching edge and a new offensive philosophy. Need new talent evaluators and decision makers.
