  1. I finally did the Apple TV free trial just to start watching Ted Lasso. Loving it! I'm actually thinking about keeping Apple TV for a month just to try the other originals like Schmigadoon, Foundation, and Lisey's Story. Anyone have any thoughts on the Apple Originals?
  2. Completely agree with your first 2 sentences. As for your last sentence, your umbrage over a post that was not itself really even as much a criticism as an observation is a little over the top. Allen hits enough of those bombs where I'm really not worried... and I also think he will get better. But unless he changes the way he throws his deep ball, I just don't think he'll be top 2 or 3 in the league at those types of throws. Now... I think statistically he could easily be the best "deep" passer in the NFL all year when measured according to yards. PFF measures a "deep pass" as any pass over 20 yards... and I think Allen will always be money in that 25-35 or 40 yard range down the field because that's his intermediate range. Like I legitimately think he's already one of the 2 or 3 best "intermediate" passers in the NFL... it's just that so many of his intermediate passes are deep passes for other QBs. I just think he'll need to change a lot mechanically to become the most consistent deep ball (bomb) thrower he can possibly be. With him, it's possible... but we'll see. Regardless, it's not even remotely a point of concern for me as he's already good enough at it.
  3. 3rd and 15s and 3rd and 20s aren't plays we have to worry about because that's right in Allen's wheelhouse as a passer. Anything 10-35 or 40 yards beyond the LOS is money for him simply because that's his intermediate range. A WR running a sideline route 30 yards down field is no biggie because Allen can put the ball on a frozen rope and get it to him without a problem--just look at that Manny Sanders TD pass in the OP, which travelled about 40 yards in the air... and that was without Allen even setting his feet. Those aren't the throws I'm talking about. I hope you actually understand that. I also hope you actually understand that I am not saying that Allen is always going to be bad at the deep ball throwing... just more inconsistent than the best in the league. And that's simply because of the way he throws it. As another poster mentioned, if we could let those routes develop more often so his deep balls travel 60+ yards down the field, things might work out more consistently.
  4. Oh he absolutely can still hit the deep ball and I don't think he's a bad deep ball thrower... I just don't think he'll ever be as close to automatic as Russell Wilson is. But Allen doesn't throw a rainbow deep ball, which is kinda what I'm saying his issue on his deep passes is. I don't know if he'll ever adjust to doing that. Ummmmm... what????
  5. You honestly might be right... maybe we need to really give him some 7 step drops with max protect and let him chuck the ball 60-70 yards down the field more often. Hopefully Stevenson develops into a legit deep threat.
  6. I just don't think Allen is ever going to throw those consistent rainbow dimes that Russell Wilson (best deep ball thrower in the league, IMHO) or even Patrick Mahomes throw. But ya know what... that's okay. First of all, the reason I don't think he reaches that point is his tendency to throw a flat ball on those traditional (using that word on purpose... I'll get back to it) "bombs" QBs throw. Now... I think Allen is accurate enough on his deep balls and I think he can get better, but I just don't think he'll ever be the league's best. But once again, that's okay. I think Allen is already up there with Rodgers as the most accurate intermediate passer in the NFL. Here's a good example: ...but wait... that's a pass that traveled nearly 40 yards in the air without Allen’s feet planted as he's running to his right. Wouldn't that be a "deep ball" for a bunch of NFL QBs? Yet Allen throws a dime with such ease. So while I think we will occasionally get upset for missed bombs down the field from Allen that he probably should have hit (week 1 to Manny Sanders... though that one was really only off by a yard or 2), we can rejoice that we have what looks like one of the most accurate intermediate passers in the NFL... and that intermediate range appears to be anything up to 35-40 yards beyond the LOS. Pretty impressive if ya ask me
  7. Shockingly thoughtless and unnecessary post from you. And I mean that sincerely based on your posting history. It's impossible to argue that Allen isn't significantly more effective as a scrambler than a designed runner. Like... MUCH more effective. Now... before this turns into something like you conflating the words "suggest" and "recommend," I would never recommend that Allen scramble as much as Michael Vick, but if I were in a conversation with Brian Dabolk, I would suggest that he make sure Allen understands that scrambling for him is more than a good option when plays break down
  8. First of all, I'll just say that this is a bit of a Goldilocks discussion. I don't want Allen running as much as Lamar Jackson does. I especially don't want Allen running as many designed running plays as Lamar Jackson does. And I also want Allen to continue to grow as a passing QB... but every single year Allen has been in the league I've gone back and looked at his success as a runner in designed running plays vs. passing plays and he's ALWAYS significantly better as a scrambling QB. Yes, there are nuances to that last statement... like how he shouldn't be scrambling if he can get the ball to a WR down the field. But we all saw what happened vs. Pittsburgh with constant pressure and Allen getting sacked 3 times and hit a bunch more... yet he only scrambled once for 11 yards and a first down. Against the Phins he got pressured less, so passing was probably the better option... except something was up with him in terms of accuracy. Maybe more scrambling and getting some positive plays in the passing game with his legs would have gotten his feet under him... so to speak. So far this year Allen has rushed the ball 14 times for 79 yards and 9 first downs. That's 5.6 YPR... pretty good, right? The thing is, he's only scrambled 3 times. On those 3 scrambles, he's gained 26 yards and 3 1st downs... with a called back TD that we scored on the next play. That means this year on scrambles this year he's averaging 8.6 YPR and a 1st down on 100% of his plays vs. 4.8 YPR and a 1st down on 54.5% of his plays on designed runs. And while that's a small sample size and especially the 1st down numbers are really skewed because of that, the YPR and higher average for 1st downs on scrambles lines up really well with his first few years. In fact, his first 2 years in the league he was averaging 8 YPR on scrambles and less than 5 YPR on designed runs... he also got significantly more 1st downs and TDs. Last year he scrambled a lot less... but he was still more efficient on those plays than designed runs. But he scrambled a LOT less. And he was so great in the passing game (combination of things here, obviously) that we just didn't notice or care. If we're comparing Allen to a QB we want him to evolve into, I don't think it's Joe Montana or Tom Brady... it's probably Steve Young. Great passer and pass first QB, but also a great runner when he needed to be. And my memory may be failing me, but I don't think SF called many designed QB runs in the 90s for him. Even in his last year as a starter in the NFL, he rushed for over 450 yards and 6 TDs. Heck, I don't think Atlanta called all that many designed QB runs for Mike Vick in the early 2000s... he was just coached to run in certain scenarios on passing plays or if he saw certain coverages. I don't want Allen to be a QB who needs to run for 800-1,000 yards and 10+ TDs every year... but his ability to evade pressure is one of his most Elite gifts... and sometimes he just shouldn't throw the ball. Those are the times I want him running. As counter as this may sound, I really wish Daboll would take the designed runs out of our playbook. On top of being less effective, those are the runs he seems to get hit on the most. Or maybe just sprinkle an RPO in every once in a great while. But instead, tell Josh he shouldn't be afraid to scramble at the right times as long as he protects himself.
  9. #2 and #3 CBs are our only 2 players questionable? Glad this isn't the week we're playing KC or TB, but Washington has a pretty good WR corps... let's hope Groot and AJ keep up with the quick pressure.
  10. 35-0 against a team most consider a playoff team... C'mon man...
  11. We just shut a division rival out projected as a playoff team... a team widely considered to have an excellent defense and Elite secondary... As someone who has Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs as his #1 fantasy WR and #1 QB... chill out!!!
  12. Anyone notice another 4th and short we screwed the pooch on today? Justin Herbert easily converted a 4th and 1 inside his own 30 just now with a QB sneak... just sayin...
  13. What exactly do you think the definition of the word "suggest" is, Thurm? To suggest is "to put forward for consideration." I said suggest... not recommend. You give the word "suggest" the same meaning of "recommend." If you apply that definition to the word suggest, I agree, he did not recommend it. But by its very definition if, he did suggest it.
  14. This probably happened largely because of people's inability to wear masks in the stadium. I have a question: Why is it so darn hard for people to wear masks properly? I teach students all day and I don't have a problem wearing it over nose and mouth all day. Why is this such a ridiculous issue? If the one you have is uncomfortable... buy a new one. We're in a Pandemic. No one loves it... but if you want some semblance of normalcy right now and the quickest way back to total normal, do 2 things without exception: 1) Wear your mask in public 2) Get vaccinated
  15. It's far less than half the article... that's the criteria, right? I can cut more if need be. Or are you saying something else and I'm completely misunderstanding the implication I've used too many direct quotes from an article with a paywall?
  16. Didn't see it posted: https://theathletic.com/2825259/2021/09/14/is-it-too-soon-to-worry-about-the-bills-offense/ Is it too soon to worry about the Bills offense? A Week 2 change could provide a spark But a slightly bigger snapshot of Daboll’s offense shows a trend to monitor, and with head coach Sean McDermott’s established history of temporarily revoking play-calling duties in hopes of a spark, one might wonder if it’s time for passing-game coordinator Ken Dorsey to get a shot to see what he can do. No, this is not a plea to fire Daboll just as McDermott’s decision to confiscate defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier’s play card wasn’t permanent in 2018. McDermott chose to do that in Week 2, by the way, six quarters into the season right after Frazier’s defense dragged the Bills — kicking and screaming — into the playoffs to break a 17-year drought. ... Going back just to last postseason, against the type of opponents by which Buffalo will be measured, the offense has struggled to find the end zone. McDermott also expressed disappointment in Daboll’s game plans back then. The Bills averaged 3.6 offensive TDs a game last year and scored three of them in their playoff opener, a 27-24 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Since then, the Bills offense has scored four touchdowns over three games. One was enough to beat the Baltimore Ravens in the second round, but McDermott was displeased with Daboll’s approach. The Bills ran three times in the first half, tying an NFL record for fewest attempts in the first half of a playoff game. Only one of those runs was designed and didn’t happen until three minutes before halftime; one was an Allen kneeldown to end the half. ... Daboll deployed four- or five-receiver formations on 35 snaps, but the Bills averaged 3.4 yards on them. ... After failing to convert two fourth downs all last year, Buffalo misfired on two of its three attempts Sunday. They happened on the Bills’ first two second-half possessions. ... More egregious was a fourth-and-1 call from Pittsburgh’s 41 with 13:42 left in the game. Allen threw a backward pass to Breida, whom cornerback Cameron Sutton summarily annihilated for a 7-yard loss. “That is something that we anticipated,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said of the play. “They got in that formation a bunch, four or five times in the preseason. We figured the next phase of it would be to fake it to the fullback and flip that ball out to them.” Pittsburgh’s defense played zone coverage 75.9 percent of the time Sunday, extending a trend that has given Buffalo problems. ... Allen took much punishment. In addition to designed runs and his customary scrambles, he absorbed three sacks and eight quarterback hits (he endured only two games in 2020 with at least that many) despite using play action just 18.4 percent of the time in an effort to get the ball out of Allen’s hands early. Allen fumbled twice. ... McDermott swiped Frazier’s play card six quarters into 2018, during halftime of a loss to the Chargers, right about the time cornerback Vontae Davis simply left the stadium and retired. Like a hockey coach hopes to spark his team with a goalie change, the move worked. The Bills had been outscored 75-9 at that point. The defense responded with three-and-outs on the Chargers’ next three possessions and allowed only a field goal. A week later, McDermott reinstated Frazier’s oversight against the Minnesota Vikings, the team Frazier used to lead. The Bills were 16.5-point underdogs on the road yet dominated, forcing three turnovers and recording four sacks in a 27-6 laugher. McDermott gave Frazier the game ball. ... Dorsey shouldn’t be a threat to Daboll. Increased collaboration can be healthy and provide a spark. If Daboll ever lands a head coaching gig, then getting Dorsey some live reps would be beneficial for the future.
  17. It was more a statement about how neither makes sense than a direct analogy. Maybe you're too deep for me
  18. Probably the same reason we punted multiple times on 4th down inside Pittsburgh territory and then thought it would be a good idea to go for it on 4th and 8 rather than kick a 53 yard FG... or even punt.
  19. I actually have NFL Sunday ticket for streaming through my sister-in-law's college account. But there's a Bills fan on the island I'll drive to in order to watch the games with when they aren't on local TV. So it's really just the question of if I'm driving to his place or watching at home. And you might ask whey I drive there and he doesn't drive to my place... my wife and I are not the hosting type.
  20. Really will be kinda shocked if he's not on here. When Mariota was on the Titans, they were on TV almost every week.
  21. Are the coverage maps available? Anyone know? This leaves out Hawai'i and Tua is a Hawai'i boy... I just kinda figured Miami would be shown here pretty much every week he's the starter.
