  1. We're at least on the same page with QBs more than I thought. I think your "institutional cohesion" thing can just happen much more quickly than you, I guess. I think new coaches and GMs can very quickly bring that in if they're the right guys.
  2. First of all, I'm sorry if I was supposed to put this another forum. Move it if necessary. I remember just a few years ago I would constantly see NFL coverage all over ESPN. NFL live was on like every day twice a day. They'd have a fantasy stuff. And on SportsCenter they would always have lots a lot of the NFL and now have very little coverage. I don't watch as much TV as I used to, mainly because I'm busier. So, maybe my perspective is off. But even ESPN radio stations feel the same way. Is the big shakeup that happened at ESPN over the last year connected with the disintegrating relationship with the NFL? Or am I just imagining all of this?
  3. OK, I love the work, but I have a question. You said there were 36 total passing plays, correct? That would imply 28 pass attempts, 2 sacks, and 6 scrambles. Right? Did you count it out while watching? I ask because kneel downs are usually counted as rushes. And Buffalo ended the game with three straight kneel downs from Taylor for -3 yards. Did the NFL not officially count those as rushes? On top of that, on the second to last drive, there were two designed runs for a total of 14 yards by Taylor. Those weren't passing plays. I'm not trying to criticize. You might be aware if you've looked at some of my previous posts, but I am genuinely a believer that you should separate scrambles from designed runs. That scrambles should be factored into net passing yards the exact same way that sacks are.
  4. And bingo!!!! You're the first to do it, from what I've seen. I came here after that atrocious game waiting to make the Tyrod/Watson comparison. This is the first I've read.
  5. If Taylor always falls in the middle. If he's never as bad as he was against Baltimore or Cincy or all those other games I mentioned but he's never as good as he was against Seattle or Miami, then I think it becomes a legitimate question of whether you should replace him. If Taylor always plays at a level (this is a general level of QB play I'm talking about, not stats... we can quip and quibble over what games I choose, if you really want, but that's not the intention) as high as, but no higher than the 2 Miami games in 2015 but no lower than a game like the Jags or Cardinals game last year, I think sacrificing a really high ceiling for a really high floor is something a lot of NFL coaches would take.
  6. I agree that consistency is the issue. But I think it's not so much an issue of consistently seeing games like Seattle or Miami. It's more about eliminating games like the whole Ravens game and very long stretches of the Jets game and the whole Bengals game and most of the Pittsburgh game and the 2nd half of the Raiders game from last year. Or let those pop up once or twice a year rather than 5 or 6 times. Expecting consistent greatness seems unreasonable. Just get rid of the bad. Sure, we'll wait til Sunday. If he sucks, everyone will say it was the Jets. If he plays well, everyone will say "let's wait another week and see if he can keep it up." And the pendulum swings. Personally, I think Carolina's D is one of the best in the league. Sunday's gonna be fun.
  7. This, I think, is the one thing I hope Crusher and xRushx and their ilk take away from this discussion. Disagree. Disagree strongly. We all obviously will. But don't turn into a playground bully throwing out grade school insults at the people you disagree with.
  8. Wow, this is disappointing and a little unnerving, Crusher. There was never anything in that conversation (that I wasn't a part of, by the way. I came in after the fact to find that gem) that was so bad that someone on a message board (you) couldn't just walk away or say something respectfully like "I disagree" or "let's agree to disagree" or, hell, even just "you guys are jerks, I'm walking away." Nope, instead you let the demon out. And all of us saw it. Now say 5 Hail Mary's And just to let everyone know, I realize I'm certainly not guilt free. Most of us aren't. We just don't ever take it to the level where we're saying anything like "I cant wait for Tyrod to fail so I can come back and destroy you clowns."
  9. Better than what projected stats? C'mon man! We need numbers and we'll need a pic of you eating your shoe if it happens!
  10. https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/qb Football Outsiders says he has the 13th highest DYAR and 10th highest DVOA
  11. Regarding the DTs, particularly Dareus, we were absolutely incredible against the run game. That tackle for Kyle he referred to is, from when I can remember the only play he made during the game. Let me rephrase, the only tackle he made in the game or the only thing that pops on a stat sheet. DTs are space eaters. I don't think we should be overly concerned right now. If our run defense looks this good, I'm betting the DTs are doing their jobs. Great post, as always, Shaw
  12. I'm really glad I'm not the only one confused here. This really doesn't make much sense And what? You assume a guys who haven't even played a meaningful NFL snap like Mahomes and Trubisky are better already than a guy who's started 30 NFL games over the last 2 years?
  13. Wow. You think Cutler (or Tannehill... take your pick), Goff, the current Carson Palmer, Kizer, Glennon, Watson, McCarron, Trubisky, Garrapalo, Mahomes, Moore and Siemian are all really better than Taylor? Based off what? Preseason for some of those guys? College careers for others? 1 game for Goff? What you think their careers will look like?
  14. No. It's not meaningless. It's like at least 6% meaningful, unlike the preseason everyone was whining about, which was ZERO percent meaningful.
  15. Nah... that was just pure luck. It would have only been a great throw if Aaron Rodgers or Russel Wilson threw it. It's just luck for Taylor. damn I wish there was a sarcasm sign here
  16. Unless that TD came in the last minute, certainly not great. And even if it were a last minute TD, still probably not, but maybe close.
  17. I wonder if you really know what luck is. Luck would have been that same play except a defender over the middle in between Taylor and Matthews tips the ball or nearly intercepts it but the ball still gets to Matthews, who catches it. That's not what happened and that's why it clearly wasn't luck but a great play. Maybe an unconventional great play, but that's what a lot of great plays are. Do you think Shady, who does TONS of things RBs are taught never to do is lucky?
  18. Oy... are you seriously on this much of a crusade? Was it a 1st down or a turnover? If he didn't throw it, what happens? You are refusing to acknowledge how great that play was and how very few NFL QBs could have made that play all because it would concede something. Absolutely ridiculous. How many historically great plays have been throws QBs were largely taught not to throw? Oh, and where was the luck on that play? On that play you seem to be confusing luck and skill.
  19. Yes, he did. One more game. I thought there was a legit chance if he played terribly in game 1 and for a good chunk of game 2, he might be benched. Pretty clearly game 1 earned him one more game this year. And if game 1 were replicated through the entire year, the conversation will be interesting.
  20. Yep. What I've been saying all day. Special play.
  21. Love? Seriously? This sounds like a weird form of jealousy.
  22. Weird that you used the word "great" for a 284 yard, 1 TD and 0 INT game but "good" for a 300+ yard game with 3 TDs and 0 INTs. Truthfully, really makes you seem like a Troll. I don't think you're one, but you look like one here.
  23. Yeah, Brees has had a lot of garbage time stats. That guy sucks! Holy crap. You're nuts.
