  1. How is it revisionist or a simplistic if every single year the average of every single defensive minded head coach always passes the ball last van the offensive minded head coach? If the average is consistently higher for the head coach with the background in offense, that's not revisionist or simplistic, that's a trend. Also, I made a mistake in my calculations. I meant to exclude John Harbaugh from the numbers because he has a special teams background, and for some reason I excluded him in the numbers themselves as I added them up, but I included him when I divided the total number. Actual number: 2017 Defensive HCs: 31 pass attempts per game 2017 Offensive HCs: 34.8 pass attempts per game
  2. Not all that surprised you can't make sense of it. Like I said, I'm glad I've learned that spending significant time arguing legitimate points with you is pointless I didn't see him say that. Did you? He misstated at least one thing: McDermott only likes to pass a lot when we're trailing. We've only trailed 35% of the entire season. Majority of Taylor's completions, yards and TDs came in that 35% of the season. And Taylor has the 6th best passer rating in the NFL when trailing.
  3. Are you referring to Rick Dennison who was reporting to his boss (Gary Kubiak) who was very much an offensive minded head coach? Thanks for proving my point considering I think we can all finally agree that Tyrod > Siemian Not really overstating it at all actually. You point to our current OC. I appreciate that because I forgot that he worked with an offensive Head Coach in Kubiak last year with a worse QB in Siemian and he seemed to have been given free rein while this year he's working with McDermott, a defensive minded Head Coach and a better QB than last year in Taylor and he seems to be more restricted. Great example! Thanks.
  4. 2 attempts is actually pretty huge when you consider that it's taking every single team in the NFL and splitting them into 2 camps. And that the defensive camp includes plenty of really good QBs, with the GOAT and a shoe-in future HOFer included in there. And once again, if I showed you the numbers for the last 15 years and it was CONSISTENTLY that the offensive HCs had teams that would pass more on average than defensive HCs, you might stubbornly drag your feet and piss and moan about the fact that it doesn't mean anything, but it most certainly would. A consistent difference in pass attempts, even if it's just 1 or 2 per game, pretty clearly sets an obvious and unavoidable trend (that I almost guarantee exists) that teams with defensive minded HCs pass the ball less than their offensive counterparts.
  5. Yeah, I don't think I'd ever convince you of anything and I don't care. But if I thought you were remotely open-minded on the subject, I'd go back and look at multiple years. I'll almost guarantee you that if you take the collective of head coaches in the NFL and put them simply in 2 camps (HCs with offensive backgrounds & HCs with defensive backgrounds) you'll find that the average of all pass attempts for all the teams with HCs with defensive backgrounds is consistently, if not ALWAYS, lower than the average of all pass attempts for all the teams with HCs with offensive backgrounds. You're too stubborn and reeling over Siemian being benched to listen to any reason right now, but on the off chance you are, it pretty much is that simple. Overall offensive minds come in as coaches wanting to rack up yards and score points on offense Defensive minds come in as coaches wanting to minimize points of the opposing offense while fielding a team that controls the clock and minimizes mistakes. See... simple
  6. Defensive coaches bring a defensive approach to their teams, it's that simple. So far this year all the teams with head coaches with offensive backgrounds are averaging 33 pass attempts per game. Teams with head coaches with defensive backgrounds are averaging 31 attempts per game. The top 3 teams in terms of pass attempts per game are teams with head coaches with offensive backgrounds... none of which include the hoodie or Brady. We have a defensive head coach. We will pass less than if we had an offensive head coach.
  7. WE NEED A FLAWLESS QB!!!! Yeah, that'd be wonderful. Not ever happening, though. You asked and pounded the table for some specific improvements from Taylor in the offseason. Looks like he's improving in those specific areas, but you don't spend time talking about those things you so desperately wanted to see, instead, well.... EEEEYOOOORRREEE
  8. I thought you were incessantly banging the drum that he needs to be good late when we're behind like he was vs the Bucs? Or that he needs to be better on 3rd downs? He currently has the 6th best 3rd down conversion % in the NFL when passing. And that doesn't even account for the 3rd downs he's converted with his legs
  9. It's pretty obvious based on the way the season is going we pick up the option. That doesn't rule out trading him on draft day to move up, but barring seeing his play fall precipitously the people who were spewing the inevitability of us not picking up his option and moving on from him at the end of the season look like a buncha jackasses.
  10. To add onto your point: The Bills have been leading or tied 65% of all their minutes played so far this season. In that 35% of the time, Taylor has attempted 49% of his passes for 52% of his completions for 51% of his yards for 62.5% of his TDs. He currently has the 6th highest passer rating in the NFL when trailing.
  11. I'm amazed (though not surprised) with posters like you who are just doubling down time after time again. How do you know we're not championship contenders right now?
  12. Oh man... this is going to utterly shock jmc.
  13. Where would Buffalo rank if you took out Taylor's 175 rushing yards? It's a pretty precipitous drop, actually. From 8 to being tied with Indy at 19. Go back in your closet and keep praying we get a QB of Trevor Siemian's caliber.
  14. Dude, the Tyrod debate literally will never be answered as long as he's in Buffalo. It was supposed to be answered by the end of his first year. It wasn't. It was supposed to be answered by the end of his 2nd year. It wasn't. It was supposed to be answered in the first half of this season. It hasn't been. The reason it hasn't been answered and will literally never be answered as long as he's Buffalo's QB is simply because "passing offense" is measured by YARDZZZ, rather than a combination of important passing stats (and also team approach) and I would honestly bet you that no matter what QB Sean McDermott had, his approach will always take us out of the top of the league in that ever-so-important passing statistic. Oh, so it really was a reading comprehension problem, then? You honestly didn't understand my point about coaching and offensive approach? Super sorry, dude. I'll try to dumb it down next time.
  15. No. That's not what I was telling you. You're either trolling (which I hope is the case for the sake of your own intelligence) or clearly you have a really hard time understanding what you read .
  16. Yeah, that's because he had terrible QBs in Brock Osweiler and Tom Savage. I mean, I know that you'd probably love either of those guys over Taylor, but they absolutely suck. And guess what, despite technically being the 29th ranked passing offense, due to yards, they were 14th in total pass attempts, which tells you the coach still wanted to throw it, his QBs just sucked too much, throwing for a paltry 5.9 YPA, which was by far the worst in the NFL. Nice try, though
  17. Well that's part of the reason I asked Wayne for specific instances this year where Watson was getting the points Taylor wasn't. It's like people think it's an apples to apples translation of what a QB does with one team to another. Bill O'Brien- Offensive Coach with an offensive mind Sean McDermott- Defensive Coach with a defensive mind McDermott doesn't really like to pass the football unless he's behind, which has been only 35% of the entire time we've played this season, yet during that 35% of our season, Taylor has 52% of his completions and 62.5% of his TDs. Taylor's actually been pretty damn good when we've been behind. He has the 6th best passer rating. You really think it's just so inevitable he was going to put more responsibility on Watson's shoulders than Taylor's? If anything, I think Watson, a rookie, would have been throwing even less than Taylor under McDermott. But I just love the way people clamor for other QBs while totally neglecting the head coach or offensive system/philosophy already in place.
  18. Not bothering to read through this thread, but this comment really must be roughing up some feathers
  19. Can you give me some specific examples of when? Oh, but with those possible points would also come more turnovers.
  20. Damn. I thought you were past this YARDZZZ!!! obsession and were starting to see things more clearly. Do you really think Deshaun Watson would be averaging 243 YPG and have 19 TD passes if we had the exact same Buffalo Bills but just swapped Taylor out for Watson?
  21. If true, what McDermott said publicly in the preseason about our Franchise QB already being on the roster and Tyrod being it might have been much more than the "coach speak" most made it out to be
  22. But the real question is would you still take Siemian over Tyrod?
  23. I still miss "Ten things I think I think"
  24. Nice read, Shaw. Thanks for taking us on your journey. One thing about Taylor. I really don't think this was a great game by him, but what I think this game does is lend itself to an overall picture of a Tyrod Taylor who seems to be improving and becoming more consistent. Taylor currently has the 6th best passer rating in the NFL when his team is trailing. The thing is, the Bills have only actually been behind 35% of the time the Bills have played. The rest of the 65% of the time we've either been tied or ahead. Yet, in that 35% of time so far, Taylor has attempted 49% of all his attempts, completed 53% of all his completions for 51% of all his yards and 62.5% of all his TDs. I think McDermott's offensive philosophy is really reflected in that. If we have a lead, he just wants to run, run, run to eat the clock and let his D hold the fort. If we get behind, he wants a QB who he can tell, "okay, go get 'em!!!" Right now, Taylor's playing really well when McDermott needs him, too. He didn't need Taylor to do so all that much during the Raiders, but in those critical moments, he did.
