If OverTheCap is accurate, Hughes can be traded for a $2.1M cap hit and a $7M cap savings. I know he finished out last season with a top grade, but at 33 in the last year of his deal, with 3 1/2nd round DE's now on the roster, I'd almost be shocked if they didn't try to trade him. Addison had his worst year in 8 years, but I think he's a much better player than he was last year. That said, they could both be out. If not, one of Epenesa, Rousseau, or Basham is all but guaranteed to spend a lot of time inactive this year, which would be weird. If we could use that money to go after Ertz or Bell, I would be all over it.

I mean he's only [insert age here]. Look at all the potential. They shouldn't, but they will. I wanted to see them draft his replacement this year, but it seems they're going to be content with what they've got. Maybe he finally breaks out this year, but thus far his play hasn't warranted keeping him at that price.

Bills 2021 Draft - Overall Assessment
BullBuchanan replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was between a b and a c+ for me, but I gave it a B. I don't have any problems with the players they picked, but I don't love that they picked them. I'm not against the idea of double dipping if you need to nail a position (especially something like QB), but it's a bit weird that they chose to do it on DE and OT. We have two excellent OT's locked up long term, and I really would have preferred going after players that can help us now instead of 2-3 years from now. As for the DE's, I mean they spent a 2nd on Epenesa last year, so 3 picks in the top 60 going to DE's is a bit much there. Rousseau is a really intriguing physical specimen, but I hate drafting a project in the 1rst round. Basham looks ready to contribute right away though. I would have preferred they find a way to get JOK - either trade down or up, as I believe he would have given us an X-factor impact player that we sorely lack on D. He could have been used to cover TE's and do pass rushing to offset the discipline knock on him. I also would have used all the picks I had at the back of the draft to try to get into the 4th or another 5th, because I think it's not impossible that none of the final 4 picks make this team - at least to start. tl;dr They could end up with 3+ eventual starters from this class, but not sure they help us make a SB push in the next 2 years. -
Wait a sec... maybe Brown and Doyle are... Guards?

I think the final nail is hovering for his spot on the roster at all. -

Maybe call Patrick Willis while you're at it. -
Mcshay Mock has Najee Harris to Buffalo

Allen holds the ball longer than just about anyone, so there are a lot of situations where his safety valve doesn't have much opportunity for YAC. I'd like to see him get better at identifying when the checkdown is the best option quickly. The way he plays now allows for a lot of huge plays, but it can be a killer if those don't materialize. Guys like Brady made their careers within a few yards of the LoS. If Josh can do that as well as drill the ball in tight windows down the field, no one will be able to stop him. There were a couple games this year (don't remember off the top of my head) where I remember him getting rid of the ball super quick and just marching down the field with pace. I think that's when he's the most dangerous. -

We have more than one hole on this team, and RB is a massive one. We have three backups rotating as starters right now. -
Watson vs Allen.
BullBuchanan replied to Marvlevydraftdaygenius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As a longtime Watson fan who was pissed that the bills passed on him, it would be absolutely pointless. He doesn't get us any closer than we already are. You need a QB to routinely compete in this league, but as every playoff team showed you usually need a complete team that is healthy and plays mistake free football when it matters most. Unless Watson is coming here to play linebacker or tight end, he doesn't solve our problems -
We're a very good team that in all likelihood will stay a very good team for a bit, but we aren't in the same tier as the Chiefs or the Bucs were this year, and that should be pretty clear by now. Depending on the draft, FA and development of younger player, maybe we'll have enough to go up a level. There are going to be a lot of other teams fighting us for the same privilege next year though. Maybe it's the Titans or Ravens taking that leap and leaving us behind. Maybe Burrows or Herbert blows up and takes the league by storm. If you get to the dance, Maybe the Rams finally have what they need, the 9ers get right, or Rodgers gets some help. We are certainly in the mix, but there needs to be more work and a little luck to get where we want to go.

Thoughts and prayers for Zerovoltz here

Allen was fantastic this year, but trading away Mahomes cannot be seen as a win under any circumstances. -
Would the Bills have beaten the Bucs?
BullBuchanan replied to QB Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
not a prayer. We would have been completely annihilated. The Chiefs got embarrassed and look what they did to us. There's something to be said for Any Given Sunday, but KC was perfect against us and TB was perfect against KC. We're a very good team that won a lot of football games this year, but we have to be a lot more multiple in every phase of the game and capable of executing with perfection reliably to knock off the best of the best. Getting a Devin White would help. -
Super Bowl Thread: KC at Tampa Bay
BullBuchanan replied to Artem Lipatov's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
None of them? There isn't an Andy Reid, Bettis, Elway, etc that's way overdue that I see there. Evans is young, Fournette sucks, Suh is a dirtbag, Bell made a mess. -
The Super Bowl is a Measuring Stick

This is the first thing I think of when a Bills fan says they want the Bucs to win. It's obvious that I want any team that beats me to be perceived to be as strong as possible. -
Micah Hyde - surprise cap casualty?
BullBuchanan replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not unless there's a Derwin James for us the draft, and we draft him, and he doesn't get hurt. You can't just replace Hyde with who we have or a guy off the street. If Ben Retires, maybe you can get Fitzpatrick. Shockingly he's only 30 which is quite young for a lot of safeties. He just kinda plays like an old man. -
How does Josh work on his nerves...?
BullBuchanan replied to Adamb412's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It depends what you mean by "screwed". If we're screwed int he sense that we're on the Peyton Manning side of the Brady rivalry, then probably, but careers are long. Brady, the greatest of all time, only even made it to SB less than half of his seasons. You can't win it all every year, so some of those years will be opportunities for Josh. At this point however, Mahomes is a perfect football player playing on a perfect football team. How do you do beat that? Build a perfect football team and try to get lucky. -
I don't think we need him to. He's gotten deep plenty this year, and you can use McKenzie in that deep role when you need it. Additionally, I think you also draft someone, and if you want them to be a burner, so be it. Diggs was used as a deep threat in Minnesota too. I really don't see it as a problem.

BullBuchanan replied to Adamb412's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're talking about the the uppermost echelon of generational player. If he wins the Super Bowl in 2 weeks he's already a top 10 player all-time if he never plays another down. You're being ridiculous. -
I think the plan was always to cut Brown this season, based on how his deal was structured. He was a good player for us, but he's no longer needed. Gabe Davis takes over his role and you draft a new WR to backfill and compete with Hodgins.

BullBuchanan replied to Adamb412's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Josh really didn't play very well, at least not to the standard he set his year, all of the post season. That said, and as one of the biggest former Allen haters in Bills fandom, give the kid a break. It's not his fault he's not Mahomes. Allen made a historic leap that no QB has ever come close to this year. If he only gets marginally better from here on out, it'll be good enough to get it done at some point. You're asking way too much from someone that already gave us more than we deserved. -
No offense, but apparently it is. It gives you no advanatge to go for 2 points later if the result is the same - it just gives you a longer sweat. By going for it earlier, it may have even been to our advantage, because it lets you know what you now need to win. By kicking the Field Goal, down 14 points with 3 minutes we gave ourselves a chance to get a second onside kick score a TD before the 2 minute warning and then either onside again or kickoff with 3 Time Outs and the 2 minute warning needing only a TD to tie. Regardless, the whole point is moot. The decisions in the final 5 minutes had no bearing on the outcome of the game. We lost in the 2nd quarter, and the nail was in the coffin with 13 minutes left on Allen's interception.
