One week before the draft, and Beane hasn't made one deal
Logic replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When it comes to team building, boring wins ball games. The Whaley offseasons (the Ryan years, in particular) were some of the most fun times to be a Bills fan. Mario Williams watch, trading for McCoy, prying Clay away from the Dolphins, trading up for Watkins. Fun, fun, fun! Then the team started playing football games. Not so fun. Meanwhile, I can only imagine that Patriots fans are routinely bored to tears during the offseason. Once their team starts playing football games, though? FUN! -
Bills were 26th in sacks last year. I don't believe Lawson will be re-signed. Even if he is, he's nothing more than an edge setter in the run game and a 5 sack per year kind of guy. Hughes will be 31 at the end of this season. How much longer does he have? And does it make sense for such a young team to give a big contract to a guy whose best days may be behind him? That leaves the Bills next season with Murphy and MAYBE an aging Hughes. The lack of pass rushing productivity last year combined with the contract situations of the edge players on the Bills roster makes an edge player a big need. You may be right that he'd only see the field on certain downs this season. The selection of such a player would be more about NEXT season and the seasons to come. At the end of the day, McDermott and Beane have yet to commit ANY draft resources at the edge position. That's crazy. It's ESPECIALLY crazy for a guy like McDermott, who doesn't like to call many blitzes and who relies on his front four to get pressure. As good as McD's Bills defenses have been at times, just imagine how dominant they could be if they could actually pressure and sack the opposing QB on a more consistent basis!

Bills 2019 schedule officially released
Logic replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Profootballtalk posted an article today listing teams who have the most games on extra rest, and the Bills were one of 4 teams in that category. Third easiest schedule in the league, several games on extra rest, no primetime games or big flights to throw off body rhythms, and a big 4-out-of-5 home game stretch in the middle of the season. The Bills have absolutely no excuse not to make the playoffs this year. -

Shhhhh. You're gonna upset Cornette'sCommentary! -
Another year, another round of irritation at the Bills not getting any primetime games. One more time: The Bills, being a small market team, are ALWAYS going to be behind the 8-ball in terms of garnering national attention. The only market smaller is Green Bay, but they have a storied tradition of winning and an elite quarterback, so they get night games. The Bills? The Bills absolutely HAVE to win football games and make the postseason and HAVE to have some marquee players in order to even have a SHOT at night games. If the Bills make the playoffs this year, they'll get 1Thursday night and 1 Monday night game next year. If they make the playoffs AGAIN or if Josh Allen becomes a superstar, they'll get more than that the following year. You have to earn this stuff. The NFL wants ratings, and putting a Bills team that's been bad for 20 straight years and has no real star NFL players in prime time doesn't make good business sense. Win football games, get prime time slots. Simple.

Bills 2019 schedule officially released
Logic replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is an about as good a schedule as you can hope for. Third easiest schedule in the league (supposedly), open with two on the road but they're in the same stadium, BIG stretch of home games after that, a Turkey Day game, no prime time games, and our division rival games are all spaced pretty evenly apart. The ONLY nit I could pick with our schedule is that the bye week is too early. In the end, I just feel bad for the Bills players: They have to spend the first two weeks of the season in NEW JERSEY. Yuck. ? -
The Washington Redskins knew within seconds of their name going on the clock who they wanted to take. They watched this player -- who they had rated as a fringe 1st round prospect and who, quite frankly, they couldn't believe was still around at this point -- slowly fall down the board to them. This is one of those rare instances that GMs talk about of value meeting need perfectly, equaling an absolute best case scenario for the Redskins. With the 45th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select Jaylon Ferguson, EDGE, Louisiana Tech. With Preston Smith and Trent Murphy both departing via free agency in the past two seasons, the Redskins felt they desperately needed a quality edge player to bookend with Ryan Kerrigan. After addressing the most important need in all of football in round 1 (QB), the Redskins feel incredibly fortunate to be able to turn around and address their other biggest need with what they feel is a steal at this point in the draft. @Golden Goat and his Carolina Panthers are now on the clock.

NFL Schedule Should Be Released Next Week
Logic replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dude... DON'T go to the Pats game. Why do that to yourself? Home openers are THE BEST. The weather will still be good, the optimism will still be hanging in the air, and the Bills have a MUCH better shot of beating the Bengals than the Pats. Put it another way: Why knowingly subject yourself to breathing the same oxygen as Pats fans for an entire day? -

Logic replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You said it would "look real bad for the Bills", as if a division rival being forced to trade for a 30 year old WR because they stink at drafting and their GM is on his last leg somehow reflects poorly on the Bills organization. You're a one-stop shop for pissing in people's Wheaties. Always have been, always will be. -

Only in ScottLaw World would a team who is NOT the Bills trading with ANOTHER team who is not the Bills somehow "look real bad" for the Bills. -

Mike McCagnan is now firmly in "Save his own ass" mode, as evidenced by him shelling out tons of money to a flashy running back and off-ball linebacker. He's like a more terminal case of Doug Whaley-ism. He is collecting talent in an effort to appease the fans and ownership, but he's not building a TEAM. I look forward to McCagnan and Gase both being fired in two years. -
Buffalo Bills Schedule Leaks
Logic replied to FitzShowUsYourTitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm going to have to leave my family gathering and go watch the Bills game alone. I can't be around the "couldn't care less about football" crowd for the first Bills Thanksgiving game in 25 years. "oh, the Bills are playing, huh? Against the Cowboys? Didn't they win the Super Bowl a few times against the Bills?" "Does Jim Kelly still play?" "Why do you still even WATCH the Bills, huh?" I CAN'T TAKE YOUR ***** TODAY, AUNT TILLY!!!- 371 replies

THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - I Can't Help Myself - I Like Tiger
Logic replied to Shaw66's topic in Off the Wall Archives
@Shaw66, if you haven't read the article at the following link, I highly recommend it. It captures very eloquently the whole "to root for Tiger or not" debate and beautifully puts into words what Sunday's win meant for Tiger the man. https://www.si.com/golf/2019/04/15/tiger-woods-wins-masters-golf-greatest-comeback-green-jacket?fbclid=IwAR0yMGZxnxXjQYXociS_Vqy3jhPeWihykVAvtpc1toW4xVQW-Ul2t4QkfcM "Woods said it at least three times during Masters week, but let’s say it again: He did not expect to be our Tiger Woods again. When he underwent Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion surgery in April 2017, he wasn’t even thinking about golf. He just wanted to be dad to Sam (who is now 11) and Charlie (10). He wanted to live, he says, 'a normal life.' The surgery worked so well that he started playing again, and he played so well that he started believing again. With his normal life restored, he slipped back into his abnormal life. He had won this tournament first as a son and now as a father. He had gone from phenom to cyborg to the man he wanted to be. He managed to save the best parts of himself while shedding his least appealing qualities. There is no stat for that." -
Noooooooooo! I knew chances of him falling to my 'Skins were not great, but I sure was hoping. Boo this man! Boooooooooo!

Bills have interest in Seattle DE Frank Clark
Logic replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Considering Dee Ford just got traded for a 2nd round pick, I think that an offer of our 2nd round pick and Shaq Lawson is pretty reasonable. I wonder if the Bills brain trust would be willing to make that deal, and I wonder if the Seahawks would be willing to accept. -
Yeldon averages 4.0 yards per carry in his career. Leonard Fournette, the highly touted 1st rounder running behind the same line in the same offensive system, has a career rushing average of 3.7 yards per carry. Between the above listed statistics and the "MAGA" in your avatar, forgive me if I don't take your word for it.

Daniel Jeremiah mock #3 (Hockenson to Bills)

I'll say it again: You can play this game BOTH ways. Jim Nantz: Welcome back to Orchard Park where the Bills have held the mighty Patriots offense to just 13 points entering the 4th quarter. Unfortunately, the Bills offense hasn't been able to match the performance of their defense, as the Patriots' outstanding trio of cornerbacks has shut down Buffalo's passing attack almost completely, holding the Bills to just 3 points on the day. Tony Romo: Without a doubt, Jim. It's a shame, because with the attention that the New England defense has been paying to shutting down the outside receivers, there has been a lot of open space over the middle and in the seams, but Tyler Kroft, with his limited athleticism, just cannot seem to take advantage of it. Jim: I know fans in Buffalo love their defense and were excited to see a pass rusher added in the 1st round, but you have to look back and wonder if a truly dominant tight end would have unlocked the potential of Brain Daboll's offense. Instead, a familiar sight for Bills fans, as another stellar defensive performance is wasted by a lackluster Bills offense's inability to score points. -

This move would rock! Oh for chrissakes.... We can play this game in both directions. "If your plan is to not address tight end in a meaningful way, then I hope you enjoy watching a stout defense, but an offense that can't block for McCoy on the edges and can't beat a defense up the seam because they only have Tyler freaking Kroft and a converted tackle at the position!" Over-dramatized, oversimplified hyperbole. Booooooooo I mean....you DO remember the Bills finishing as the 2nd ranked defense last season? You're talking as if the Bills defense is awful, and they're just not. -

I thought the most interesting comments form Beane in the entire interview were when he said the d-line class was just "solid". He was asked by the reporter if he felt it was "off the charts great", and Beane didn't seem to think so. He specifically mentioned that once you subtract out the prospects you don't feel are a scheme fit, you're maybe looking at a different d-line class than the public is looking at. Is he blowing smoke? Is he not that impressed with the d-line class? Is he going to make sure to take one early if he doesn't think the class is great as a whole? Just interesting.

I'm all about Mitch Wishnowsky in the 7th. Even the 6th if they need to. His leg strength has been compared by an analyst or two to Michael Dickson, the rookie phenom for Seattle last year. For anyone who says "you don't use a draft pick on a punter!"...I say...um, why not? He's a guy that, if he's good, will be on your roster for 15 years, flipping field position and pinning opponents deep. That's ABSOLUTELY worth more than an Austin Proehl or Ray Ray McCloud type.
-
I agree. If the Bills could trade down 5-8 spots, make a pick, then use their two 2nds or whatever to get back into the late 1st for a sliding Hock or Brian Burns or Jonah Williams, that would be sweeeeet.

The bolded is the main reason. If you think a QB is a franchise guy, you don't mess around with possibly losing out on him. But more importantly, I've seen a few draft analysts lately stating that the Redskins may not even have the CHANCE to get Jones at 15. I have read of recent serious interest on the part of the Broncos and Dolphins both. Furthermore, I read 10 different Redskins mock drafts, ranging from national analysts to Redskins bloggers, and 5 of them had Daniel Jones as the selection at 15. I believe that the public opinion on Jones has not yet caught up to the reality of how NFL teams feel about him. I will not be surprised if he is the 2nd QB off the board come draft day, ahead of Dwayne Haskins.
