  1. Is that what Pelosi was doing the first time around when she was holding things up ? Helping ?
  2. The measures appear to no longer have the goal of reducing cases, but of reducing them to zero. That’s not reasonable or even possible. The vast majority of people will either be asymptomatic to this or will recover from mostly mild symptoms. Locking down millions of people and forcing them from their jobs cannot be looked at as accomplishing a “ greater good”.
  3. If you’ve not been tested , nobody knows that you are ill. You may be fine. Invasion of privacy
  4. Agreed, it is needed. Reasonable standards need to be met, but that’s it. You can take every precaution and it’s still possible someone could contract a virus. It would be very difficult to prove where someone contracted a virus, and even if they did it doesn’t imply negligence. Perhaps all employees in any communal setting should be required to sign a type of waiver as a condition of employment. While even best practices are being followed, there is still some risk and the employee is voluntarily participating by choosing to work there or not.
  5. Yep. Imagine if somehow it was that knucklehead Cuomo ? Today he lamented the stock trade and how companies are going to hire less people, leaving the American worker behind. Now he’s concerned about the American worker ? As his policies strangle what’s left of the economy ? That’s rich. Maybe he can tell them to go find an essential job.
  6. Ridiculous. Why should deaths even factor in ? It would be like counting recoveries. It’s totally dependent on who gets the virus. That’s outrageous. The case number per 10,000 is also absurd. Hospital capacity should be the primary factor. It’s about not overwhelming the health system, not trying to prevent the inevitable. Destroying the economic future of millions and probably the Country as we know it to possibly save a few thousand from succumbing to a specific cause of death is the largest virtue signal of all. All to force in a new , socialist society.
  7. Lol... I expect nothing less from that outfit.
  8. Perhaps that could be a way to reframe the argument and recruit Democrat support ; By remaining locked down, we are favoring the protection of an older, more well to do, largely Caucasian population in expensive nursing homes while ignoring the working poor and the homeless. It’s an inequality ; it’s unfair.
  9. It’s already been about as long as the nation can afford. No reopening could be considered “ early” at this point. Predictions for a slower recovery are a strange argument against restarting the economic engine while it might actually have some fuel. Summer is approaching and will give consumers opportunities to release pent up demand. It doesn’t really matter who might be willing to patronize restaurants , theaters etc, just that the public be given the opportunity. Some folks most definitely will. I always point to the crowds at the beaches that were shamed on social media as evidence of this Pretty sure most of us haven’t gone through anything like being cooped up for two months with virtually nowhere to go.
  10. So true. Doctors and scientists are not economists. They see the world only through the bubble of health , and are pretty accustomed to having money. That’s why a Fauci can look at reopening the economy as “ needless”. What a joke. “ Live for yourself - there’s no one else more worth living for..begging hands and bleeding hearts will only cry out for more “ Neil Peart
  11. I’d much rather “ fiddle with it” (ie not wear it when I don’t have to) than to normalize and adopt the custom of covering faces in the USA. The more it is kept as a temporary measure the better. You think it hasn’t occurred to me or others that yes , some are just being lazy and wearing it all the time ? You’re trivializing the flu deaths.
  12. Yes they do; inside. Joggers and people in cars wearing masks is just a bit overdone. Deaths are deaths and they count, right ? The flu is not the same , but it has claimed far more lives than Covid19 at this point and probably for quite some time.
  13. This ^^^ and what’s with this “ the flu isn’t as deadly blah blah “ We know it isn’t, yet tens of thousands die from it every flu season. Don’t those deaths matter? I don’t recall seeing folks wearing masks before, or calls to close the country for a few months every winter. Sorry, but wearing a face covering anytime you go outside isn’t a small thing nor is it necessary.
  14. No, foolio. Cuomo. His NYC response was a disgrace. His ridiculous benchmarks are designed to keep most of the rest of NY state shut down for no reason.
  15. Yep, the testing thing is so outdated. Anyone can get tested, and in most areas tests far exceed people wanting to take them. The simple answer is the government cannot keep anyone from contacting a virus.
  16. So NY abated the worst , eh ? European virus ...lol..this guy is such an incompetent , unintelligent , lying POS.
  17. The discussion was focused on why some things are treated favorably over others , even when the effectiveness of each has been questioned. Weakness was not a word I used, and no one wants to spread this virus. Giving each other a little more personal space is not undesirable even without Covid 19. Personally, I’ve worn nitrile gloves and a face covering in every store I’ve entered since they’ve been required fwiw.
  18. Mostly due to virtue signaling. A face covering ( not common in USA before this) is a fear inducing item, and subconsciously a sign of submissiveness. It’s an extreme change, and therefore viewed as favorable. The effectiveness of gloves, on the other hand has also been questioned. Those items of PPE have been largely panned by the media. They’re just not extreme enough .The idea is to create a population that is submissive , and passive to government control.
  19. Agreed that will be part of it. I’m definitely willing ( and expecting) to pay a higher cost with no middle seat passenger. That’s a worthwhile upgrade even without WuFlu.
  20. I disagree. Some will not fly, others most definitely will. People take the NY subway every day, for example. For me personally, as soon as I can fly somewhere to get on a beach I will do so. I don’t think I’m the only one. No middle passenger and it’s fine. Turn the air overhead on blast and wipe everything down ( which I’ve done for years anyway). Instant testing is a pipe dream at the moment, and probably for a long time. Chef, I’ve been checking similar fights to STT ( though I usually stay on Sapphire Beach). Prices are decent right now. Most recent news I’ve seen is that USVI is planning for a June 1 reopening to tourists if all goes well. Beaches are open now I believe but not hotels for tourists and no flights have resumed yet. I’m expecting no middle seat passengers and perhaps some type of test before boarding stateside. Our usual is St Maarten but I think they might be closed down longer than USVI.
  21. People will fly, slowly at first but surely. ( stop calling me Shirley lol..) Just like they did after 9/11, although I’m not comparing the two. Just that the effect is the same. People need to get places; some of which you can’t drive to and others where it is logistically impractical. Most level headed people feel safe enough now. Anytime anything opens up there are/ will be people there, because they’re tired of this and know that hiding under a rock is no way to live. Just a look at the twitter shaming when folks flock to a beach will tell you this fear thing is overblown. It’s mostly a media driven narrative to the majority of the population. If the planes are being cleaned that will be enough. Heck, people were still taking that filthy subway in NYC before they even considered cleaning it once a night.
  22. This Reich is a typical leftist dill hole...Now going to work is being “ subjected “ to Coronavirus to these mental midgets. Guess what ? Covid 19 is now part of the world. We subject ourselves to the world and all of its dangers and pitfalls when we step out the front door everyday. No one can force anyone to report for work. We do that by choice. Someone can choose to stay inside and try to go on permanent disability if they really can’t cope.
  23. I don’t like these metrics because rate of hospitalization / deaths is due largely to an unhealthy population, and we are in a region where vitamin D deficiency is also common. We can have plenty of hospital capacity and still not meet the benchmark because the comorbidities are baked into a segment of the population.
  24. But, but those peeing poopers have like rights and, like liberties you know? Those rights and liberties must be protected ! They must........errrrrrrrrrr.
