  1. Testing to what degree and in what fashion ? There is not going to be a perfect scenario. Dr Birx has already stated that there will never be the capacity to test on a daily basis or anything like that. Anyone can test negative today but positive 3 days from now. Safe is the most overused term I’ve heard with regard to reopening , and it’s fantasy. It’s not going to be completely “ safe” because the virus isn’t going anywhere. Politicians are hiding behind a false choice scenario. Contact tracing of positive cases is about the best we can do. Some level of social distancing initially upon reopening will help. An individual focus on hygiene and some personal discretion exercised by those who fall into vulnerable categories will be necessary going forward.
  2. I know in Erie County the County Exec has stated repeatedly that anyone who has symptoms can get tested through their provider or through the County if they do not have one. No shortage of tests according to him. As for testing to tell where the virus might be breaking out I highly doubt that a system like that is even remotely possible. They can test the symptomatic and attempt to contact trace , which might be somewhat effective. Very hard to nail down contacts to that degree. I think there is a lot of magical thinking out there when it comes to testing. It can help, but it’s not a panacea. There is no way that everyone, everywhere is going to be virus free when things open up. Have to keep some extra hospital space available to stay ahead of the increase in cases, but even that has its limits. The draconian lockdowns are driving hospitals out of business and leading to furloughs of medical personnel. That’s ludicrous.
  3. I can’t take anything Cuomo says as fact. The Michigan Gov has proven to be moronic as well. Not sure about Maryland, but most of these people seem to be stalling, moving goalposts, etc.
  4. Lord Cuomo had a bazillion dollar deficit b4 Corona ....tremendous
  5. We have a high rate of obesity and heart disease
  6. It is the responsibility of the states.
  7. Any less would have been racist....meanwhile still wondering why Governors didn’t lockdown, test, and trace as soon as they caught wind of a confirmed case under their watch. They have blood on their hands!!!!
  8. A good start for NY to shape things up would be to cut its bloated Medicaid program down to something resembling the national average. Most or all of the Erie county property tax ( for example) is swallowed up by this out of control behemoth.
  9. Dems are really the daffy ones here. As pandemics go, this one isn’t dangerous enough to the population at large for anything close to such an occurrence.
  10. Courage in the face of fear is why we have a United States of America; land of the free , home of the brave.
  11. Being that scared means nothing about science. It means you really haven’t looked into the numbers. You’ve been sold a bill of goods , Tibs. Stripping away of freedoms is far more scary than the virus.
  12. The meek and fearful can refuse to work and hide in a cave. It’s America, and they are free to do so if they wish. Personally, I have continued to go to work the entire time. It’s not too dangerous for the overwhelming majority of people. It’s not the plague. Most people are not cowards, as well. They want to work. Man will always fight to be free. We’ve worked and lived through much more dangerous and “ unsafe” things than the Wuhan virus through the centuries.
  13. No, Foolio that’s not what I mean. . I mean state governments. Some have become downright tyrannical , in case you haven’t noticed. Freedom is not free, and we the people may have to fight for it again...within our very own country.
  14. The entire premise of this is dumb and dangerous. There might not ever be a vaccine. It could take a decade or more; who knows. What we do know is that we cannot let this virus become an excuse to destroy the very freedoms Americans enjoy; to effectively rip up the Constitution.Hopefully , such draconian measures will be fought vigorously by the people. The next revolution might be coming if idiots like this WaPo writer get their way.
  15. Sick of all that, plus the incessant “ social justice” spots on NFLN. Actually, I’m sick of BB’s dog too.
  16. It’s really simple. Just assume that everyone around you ( even those you know personally) are infected and contagious. If that makes you want to wear a mask as a measure of protection, go ahead and wear one. Not really a problem. Mandating the wearing of face covering in America - that’s a problem.
  17. I’d be inclined to agree with you. Especially after examining the NYC data. It’s just the usual Tibs overreacting to some minutiae or a slight overstatement to ignore / dismiss the greater point.
  18. Oh he’ll win another term as Governor, I believe . Mostly due to the reasons you stated.
  19. There is some risk. It’s definitely not impossible ; there are documented cases. The larger point of his post is correct, though.
  20. The man who said America wasn’t “ that great” ? I don’t believe he’d win, but a very sad situation if he did.
  21. Yep, and the germ infested mass transit system must stay open . Meanwhile, golfers must walk the course because having one person per cart ( disinfected after every round) isn’t safe. The man is an idiot !
  22. Yep, and there was probably no keeping it out. Which state had the first confirmed case in and why didn’t the governor lockdown and contact trace/ test ? Probably a lost cause by that time but who knows ? A lot of blame shifting going on and refusal to admit the reality that this virus isn’t going anywhere.
  23. Personally, I am not a fan. He’s often vague and relatively dismissive when any questions about reopening anything is brought up. It’s always not enough testing, or we need more antibody testing in more areas of the county, or cases remain steady etc. Of course as testing increases, so do cases. His timeline on the curve, peak whatever constantly shifts, as do the goalposts. Flattening the curve has morphed into “ when its safe” or avoiding the second wave. He’s in lockstep with Cuomo, as far as I can tell.
  24. It has kept numbers down for now, but we also know that the virus is going to be around. Waiting for things to be “ safe” isn’t an option. Continued social distancing practices of some type and even continued self isolation by choice for some would be best going forward imo.
  25. While that’s not spread casually ( as we know) I agree. Polio has been brought up in some threads. I wasn’t around during the time of Polio , but I’m pretty certain there were sporting events, restaurants, bars etc. Current generations have largely been shielded from infectious illnesses, and that seems to have led to mindless panic and governmental overreach in some places.
