Every Josh Allen snap in Bengals Preseason Game 3
oldmanfan replied to cd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For those being critical of a rookie QB that had a pass rich in his face all day, let me remind you of the book on a guy named Brady. What do people say you have to do with Brady? Get pressure up the middle. If it throws Tommy off I think it's reasonable that it throws a rookie QB. Give Allen time. Stop being the Bills fan that thinks a kid should be an immediate star. -
You're talking about a guy that needs medical help. Have you not kept up this off season?

Trent Murphy and Star Lotulelei
oldmanfan replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I see that. I suspect they felt Groy steps in for Wood. I don't know that anyone expected Richie to go off the rails like that. But I agree they could have drafted another G in addition to Teller. -

And if you'd given $$ to WRs and O linemen they'd get criticized for doing nothing on the D line. Take the long view. -

That's because he's a rookie. -
What areas of the team has Beane actually improved?
oldmanfan replied to Yeezus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have mixed feelings about the Glenn trade. we needed to make a move up to get the QB we wanted, so you had to give up something. And as much as I liked Glenn his injury history was becoming concerning. The middle of the O line is where we have issues, and two things stick out to me just based on yesterday. One is Groy. I figured he'd be a more than adequate replacement for Wood, given how ell he did when he stepped in for him a couple years ago. But yesterday he just seemed clueless. Two times guys pretty much just ran by him and he just stood there. And then Ducasse and Miller. I've said several times today that I cannot understand how a guy with Ducasses's size can be just walked back like he's not even there. And Miller was just as bad with his penalties. They did try to address it somewhat with Teller, and you have to imagine he starts if not opening day shortly thereafter if the two incumbents play like they did yesterday. And you have to just hope that was one bad day for Groy. If not then it's going to be pretty tough. I'm not worried about our DB's. Corners sometimes get beat one on one and Davis got suckered. I expect a vet like him to bounce back. -
OL what I would like to see happen TOMORROW

He didn't play yesterday. The fact that you don't know that says volumes about your bias. I do agree they need to revamp the interior though. -

So on the one hand Beane is getting criticized for not beefing up the O line this past off season, and now it's that he won't be able to next year either because guys aren't out there even if you have cap space? Makes perfect sense. -

You can't teach things like strength and leverage. For a guy the size of Ducasse to get thrown around like he was is just mind numbing. -

Good point. Maybe we trade him for a G? -
O Line Troubles Start With It's Coach !!
oldmanfan replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, losing Seantrel Henderson was a huge loss. How will we ever survive? As was Glenn, who didn't play hardly at all because of injury. The O line needs help to be sure. Groy needs to get back to playing as he did when Wood got hurt a couple seasons ago. They need to let Teller in there, at least he won't get manhandled. But to bring up Seantrel Henderson as an indictment against Beane and McDermott is just a ridiculous stretch by someone who seeks to do nothing around here but be critical. -
5 biggest positional concerns for the starting 22
oldmanfan replied to Mango's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not MLB. Edmunds looked pretty good yesterday. But the middle of the line was just horrible yesterday. I honestly don't understand what went on with Groy - he did fine a couple years ago filling in for Wood. But he looked lost yesterday. And for a guy the size of Ducasse to get physically manhandled like he did is a complete mystery. I'm hoping yesterday was just a bad day for Groy, and that they start Teller. He might get confused in terms of blocking schemes, but he won't just get physically overwhelmed like Ducasse was. RG then would still be an issue, and I can see they keeping Boetteger or getting a guy after final cut downs. At some point you also have to hope that pride takes over. When the interior linemen watch the film they have to be completely embarrassed at their play. So my top 5: All three interior line spots CB (Davis was bad yesterday) DE (no one can pass rush) -

I think it's possible they keep Croom, Lee and O'Leary and cut Clay. -
Is it possible we start 0-8?

Highly doubtful. -
It's an unknown for all the young QBs. But you saw things today that bode well. Stood tall in the pocket, had decent mobility, his supposed inaccuracy was not evident the few times he actually had time to throw. Like all young QBs the game has to slow down for him. Hard to get things to slow down the the other team is in your face all day long. All good points. Plus Shady makes them look better in the run game. Forgot to mention earlier but this Murphy kid is a keeper.

Dawkins was out today

Yeah Groy was just puzzling. Is it because of the guys on either side of him? Don't think so- think the first series the DT went by him like he was standing still. Probably because he was standing still. Nope.

Reading a lot of hysteria about letting all our vets go to accumulate picks, the season is doomed, and so on. But similar concerns were raised last preseason and the reality is they made the playoffs. So removing the hysteria and focusing on reality: 1. Middle of the O line is clearly the biggest team weakness. I was very disappointed in Groy today, same with Miller, and Ducasse was just dominated. A guy his size cannot just allow himself to be pushed straight back. I expect Teller starts and Ducasse gets cut, maybe Miller as well, and that a C is targeted high in the draft next year. 2. Allen is going to be good, but Peterman has to start. He gets the ball out quickly which will have to be done with our O line. 3. D will be OK. Davis had a tough day but should be OK. Pass rush was lacking but they didn't show everything in their packages. And Edmunds will be a load soon. 4. Clay is expendable. Start Croom. I expect we'll be active in trades or waiver wire for linemen. And that while we may not be as good as last year we will not be the train wreck some are wringing their hands over.
