  1. I think you should have a foundation of knowledge to make the kinds of interpretations he and others make. I wouldn't go to say a dentist if I had a heart condition, I want someone that's been there and done that I know Mel Kiper starter an empire doing this stuff. It still puzzles me as to how and why.
  2. I asked the question so I could determine how much weight to give his opinion
  3. Ok. It just seems like there's a huge number of these guys and I'm not sure whether they really understand what they're seeing.
  4. Seven pages on this. I looked this guy's name up on Google. From what I can find, he has some experience as a high school football coach. Is there anything else in his background I'm missing to suggest his opinion has validity? Or would it be like me writing a similar column on say Darnold, and expecting Jets fans to take it seriously just because I watch football a lot?
  5. Don't give me the cap garbage. Sigh. Some folks honestly do not understand realities of the NFL
  6. I agree. I think I've read quotes from him about building through the draft. I see them using their cap money to get solid contributors in multiple areas, but not going crazy getting some supposed superstar.
  7. You cherry picked one weekend of games, got caught looking ridiculous, and now are trying to backtrack. Next time don't post something that can so easily be torn apart.
  8. Are you that desperate for attention? Do you have no friends?
  9. Some folks seem to think NFL players, and QBs in particular, should be like umpires or surgeons. They should be perfect day 1 of the job and then improve.
  10. Such a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
  11. I don't know who else but the owners would make the final decision on what essentially are the chief executives of the organization. I would assume (hope?) they were talking to folks in and around the league about McD and Beane. That would be nice! Regarding that, wonder if McD will call the D plays again this week? The one thing that has ticked me off this season so far is how completely unprepared they've looked in the first half of games. I hope McD has them playing aggressively from the get go.
  12. I think it would be nice to still have Gaines, as he fit the D better than Darby. I saw an interesting article I think in si about the Eagles D. They have three young CBs they like, and the article indicated they like them enough hat they may not even try to sign Darby to a long term deal after his rookie contract is up this year. So maybe we can get him back if we want.
  13. Ok then. I would like you to tell me who you would be working out. Today. Right now. Who is out there available that you would work out, based on your review of their play on film, etc. This really gets tedious. Most all of here have never seen probably the vast majority of these guys play, I can pretty much guarantee none of us have seen film on them, but because the Bills do what every other team in the league does, bring in guys that aren't on rosters now for a look-see, somehow we're wrong. I saw them brought in linemen. Great, we need them in my opinion.. If they see a guy they think is an upgrade, great. GIve it a shot. They see a WR they think might help, give him a shot. If they don't help, at least you tried.
  14. This brings up an issue I don't think ever gets discussed enough. When folks talk about "losing" someone in free agency, the assumption that seems to be made is the team could have retained the FA if they had made a bigger offer, earlier offer, etc. But what that ignores is the human side of the equation. Football players , while I think driven primarily by financials when in the FA market, also are human. Thus, there may be circumstances having nothing to do with football that cause them to leave one team for another in FA. Woods, for example. It was widely rumored that he wanted to sign with a West coast team to get back closer to home. If that is the case, wouldn't matter what we offered. We would have had to offer an insane amount to get him to change his mind if it was the personal matters driving the bus. I think Gilmore might have been similar. I recall a discussion saying he wanted to be on a team that got more TV time. I think Whaley really tried to get him back in the fold, but likely it was non-financial reasons that caused him to go to NE. There are obviously financial reasons for players to move in FA. Also football ones (might like a coach, a scheme, etc.). But don't minimize the impact of personal situations and desires when looking at these FA moves.
  15. I remember abck in the day when they'd have a college All Star team play the defending NFL champs. It was like men playing against boys. Primarily because it was men playing against boys.
  16. So they're good at safety. They're good at one CB. They're OK at LB including the rookie who's figuring it out. They're good atone DE, OK with Star, And while you didn't mention it Phillips and Kyle are hardly trash. So when you say the rest of the D is trash, from what I can add up that is one position, the CB other than White, out of 11. The rest of the D. Brilliant. They bring guys in to take a look at based on what their pro scouting department has seen in pre-season etc. It is a look see. It is not Armageddon. It is how NFL teams do things.
  17. Pretty much every game from around '68-'70. Just being a pain is what you're doing. Go look at your other foolish post about receivers yesterday for my comment.
  18. Can you explain to me why you are so reluctant to actually read others' posts before you comment? Are you afraid it will actually challenge your pre-set opinion? So, I want you to actually read what I am about to write. First of all, I am not the one who cherry picked one game to try and make a point about what receivers we should or should not have. That was the original poster. So I did just what he did, picked out one game for both Woods and Watkins indicating pedestrian performance by each to show the folly of such an analysis. Now, as to Sammy. Go back and read what I wrote. It says quite specifically: And I say that as one who would have liked to see Sammy stay. Let me interpret that for you since you don't seem to understand: it means I would like to still have Sammy here. Now, having said that, is Sammy earning his big salary? I would have to argue no. Sammy for the Rams was a decoy many times. Did that open up the box for Gurley, etc? Yeah. Did the Rams think that was sufficient to offer Sammy a big FA contract and keep him? No. I have no doubt Sammy will have some good games with KC. But he will also have games like his first week with 3 catches for 21 yards. It will depend on matchups etc. Are Benjamin and Jones making us better off? Probably not. But that was not the purpose of my post. My post was to debunk the simplistic OP and show that cherry picking games is worthless. And tell you what- if either Benjamin or Jones catches more passes than Sammy or Woods this week, I promise I won't start some snarky thread like Foreigner did, then claiming it's good we have either of them vs. Sammy. And do you know why? Because one game is meaningless in such an analysis. Now, I hope you've actually read this. And I hope you'll respond to the actual points made. But you probably won't.
  19. Woods week 1: 3 for 36 Watkins week 1: 3 for 21 OP can cherry pick his stats, so can I. Proving that using one game to indict a decision is worthless. And I say that as one who would have liked to see Sammy stay. The OP also ignores that Woods got an 8 million a year deal, and that it was Whaley who did not negotiate an extension before he hit free agency. Plus it was widely reported he wanted to be back on the west coast. Sammy? He wanted the big contract, was coming off an injury that kept him out of ten games the prior year. They traded him, and the Rams also did not see him as worth a big contract so they also let him go. To akC. Who in game 1 paid a lot of money for 3 catches for 21 yards. The Rams had a rookie QB two seasons ago, did horribly, then they used their off season to draft and use FA to put more weapons around him. The Bills this season have a rookie QB, we'll see how he does, and have an offseason with a ton of draft picks and cap space to put more weapons around him. Just putting facts out there. Some folks here say not to just insult the OP but give evidence why he's wrong. There you go.
  20. Injury history is s concern now. But he sets the edge well against the run, and I can see him helping by moving inside as an interior rusher on passing downs
  21. I agree talent in any organization is important, but name me a successful organization that does not have a specific culture that guides their performance
  22. Such a terrible loss. Prayers for the family
  23. I would be more worried if he had the deer in the headlights look last week. He didn't. And although my eyes see differently, three other observers who see more film than I do say a good percentage of sacks were not due to poor O line play. So I hope as things progress, he sees thing more clearly and gets the ball out quicker. I say all the time: the biggest factor in a young QB succeeding is getting the game to slow down. Hopefully it does and the offense will improve.
