  1. Right. It's simple. You're saying if those guys were not traded/let go and kept on those contracts it would have cost X leaving Y to spend on about 50 other players. Now , could you have restructured some contracts, etc? Sure. But of course Whaley was criticized for that very thing. And it would assume the players would have been amenable to such. It it is simple. The current regime simply did not think some of these guys were good enough to merit the big bucks, and said good bye. I don't necessarily agree with each move but that's the plan. And looking at the roster now you have some young talent to groom and rely on in critical positions.0
  2. Have you ever played a team sport?
  3. The single biggest reason the offense has dropped off is the play of the O line. That is clear to anyone. Brown. He was a FA demanding a big multiyear deal. They determined he ultimately wasn't the answer. And it's not like he would have signed a 1 year deal to keep the seat warm for Edmunds.
  4. I agree. Mystified by Groy's performance or lack thereof.
  5. Yes they did. Yes they had reasons. Which you don't like. And if they had done the opposite you'd complain they are paying guys too much money for player x.
  6. Some here need to go back the last several years and read posts about Brown. McD needs a versatile MLB in his D. He got one who needs to learn more.
  7. Good summary of the math. May go over some heads though.
  8. So what? The kid unfortunately will likely screw up again and Belichick will show him the door
  9. But enoughbto warrant the money? People have selectively short memories but Brown would get blasted routinely around here for making tackles 5-10 yards from scrimmage and not having the ability to cover. Edmunds has freakish athletic ability. And like Allen he's getting thrown in the deep end of the pool. Yet he isn't even given a chance by some to tread water let alone swim.
  10. Ahem. Tredavius White. Dawkins. Starting CB and LT. Zay Jones. Starting WR. Josh Allen. Starting QB Edmunds. Starting MLB Phillips. Three man DT rotation. Johnson. Starting slot CB. All young, all starting, all learning, all should improve. Since Edmunds is being focused on, let me ask a question. On the second full day you had on your job (after your training sessions analogous to Edmunds preseason) were you perfect. Were you as good at your job that second day as you are now? Or did you improve as you gained experience? Be honest.
  11. Money. Talent. They did not see Brown as being good enough at MLB. Would have cost the millions to resign him.
  12. What Davis did was cowardly. As for Brown, he likely would have made more plays yesterday vs. a rookie in his second game. A year from now? Edmunds will do things Brown couldn't do ever.
  13. The one I would say would stunt his growth is Cutler. A young QB does not need that kind of personality around him. At any rate, Beane and McD are very consistent in their thought process, and very careful what they say in public. One of the things they say is they are constantly looking for ways to improve the team. So they churn the roster up, and I for one hope that includes a more veteran backup QB.
  14. LaCanfora yesterday said they are looking at options. Given it's LaCanfora it probably means they aren't. But they should be. Mybe some guys like Moore just are done and don't want the hassle.
  15. What happened with Cleveland? They got a lot of guys. Free agents go to teams for different reasons. Most for money, some to say play with a young up and coming QB? Regardless, my read on Beane and McD with regard to FA is that they will use the cap dollars they have to build in multiple areas, and not try to make just 2-3 huge signings. Similar to the Hyde/Poyer type guys. If they spend big, it might be on an OT or perhaps an edge rusher. But I see maybe a half dozen or more free solid signings as opposed to the big splash types. For the glamour positions, they'll build through the draft. And if you look at the last two drafts you see a QB, MLB, CB, LT' slot CB, return guy/slot WR. And please don'ts tart with the stuff about failures, etc. based on 1-2 games with the QB and MLB. They have gotten rid of guys that were cap problems and/or not earning their salary under the cap. Doesn't mean they get off the hook for the atrocious two first halfs these first two games. But we'll see.
  16. That last sentence. Are you referring to your post?
  17. Eric Wood retired because he was told if he didn't he risked permanent paralysis. What are you talking about? Oops, misread. Never mind.
  18. Yep. And teams hurting at safety kick themselves in the head for not signing Poyer or Hyde. Ad infinitum
  19. The legitimate question for Terry would be why the team seemed unprepared the first half of each game. I'd ask that if I were him.
  20. Good point. Next year they have 80 million and not too many of our one to sign or are worth signing. They have ammo then; let's see if they use it correctly.
  21. His first draft for Beane looks good. The one that was Whaley/McBeanwas pretty good. They need to hit on better FA choices.
  22. All the arguing about who they kept, should have kept, blah, blah, blah is just Monday morning QBing. Some of the same folks being critical today would have been critical if they had kept certain guys and would be complaining they aren't worth their salaries, etc. Which is why fan is short for fanatic; some folks just get irrational and it's impossible to reason with an irrational individual. Where I would be asking questions if I were Terry is with the two first halves of the first two games. In both cases it seemed clear to me that the other team was both much more well prepared, and more eager to play. Yesterday rivers had his way with the D, almost as if he was calling the D against his own offense. That failure of preparation is clearly on the coaching staff, and that merits questions from the owner.
  23. I think you can fairly criticize the current regime for some of these. Gaines now looks like a bad move considering the cowardly thing Davis just did. And I said yesterday I was puzzled by the Kerley thing. Others you can't be as critical of. I don't think Woods was going to sign in free agency; the fact that they never made a serious move to sign him was a signal to me that they knew Woods wanted to move along. And Goodwin? Sorry, but that's revisionist history. He could not stay on the field here. And then guys like Gilmore were really Whaley's issue before the current regime could do much. Looking at all the moves I would like to have Gaines still here. Maybe Darby. I might have looked at other assets to trade Cincy other than Glenn, but then again they needed O line help and Glenn was hurt essentially all last season, with a big cap hit to boot. I don't think I would have given a third for Benjaming given his nonchalance lately; I always liked Sammy and would have liked to see him stay but he had his own issues as well. And Dareus I can't blame them for at all; so many coaches, Kyle, etc. could not get through to the kid. I would have looked for an edge rusher elsewhere and not given Murphy a contract even though it's a very temporary hit. So some of the moves they've made to stay competitive this year haven't panned out as well as they'd like, and that's on them. Going forward, they have to make sure they draft well (they did this year) and pick the right FAs.
  24. Writing in caps is just childish. They want to compete short and long term. The moves they made are not contradictory. To compete long term they knew they needed a young franchise-like QB and a leader for their D. They made moves to get them in this draft. They knew they wanted to take their cap hit completely and get it over with. They did that. You keep harping on Kerley and Holmes as if those are definitive proof of something. Kerley I suspect will bounce on and off the roster for the year. Holmes is not as good or bad as any other #4 receiver and is a guy they count on for special teams. Quit acting like a child, read what other people offer, and answer them instead of just writing the same rants (and in capitals no less as if that means anything).
