When history looks back at this pandemic, it will be very critical of how politics took precedence over science and medicine. -

I work in reproductive medicine, and was for a time the go to person for interviews with one of the local news stations when such subjects came up. One was the story of the man expecting a baby. The individual was biologically female (XX) but identified as male. My response in the interview was that it was not surprising that an individual who is biologically female was having a baby (I put it in more delicate terms than that). I have seen a number of such patients over the years, and it is not as black and white as some want to make it. These individuals go through a lot of psychologic trauma. And sometimes the gender reassignment doesn’t fix that, or in fact can make it worse. I think surgical intervention should be held off until the patient can consent independent of parents. If a child identifies with the opposite gender and to be raised as such then appropriate family counseling is very important before one would initiate any hormonal therapy. As far as transexual involvement in sports, I think if you have not had gender reassignment surgery to remove the testes, and you identify as female, then it seems reasonable to look at testosterone levels to determine eligibility. -

Yes they can and yes that is capitalism. For example, back in the day when some refused to buy French fries because companies didn’t rename them “freedom fries” I was perfectly happy cruising through Mickey D’s for my fix. -
Didn’t catch that it was a joke. My bad.

K9, you are flat out wrong. An NFL owner can own two different sports franchises if they are in the same market. Paul Allen owns the Trail Blazers and Seahawks because they consider that the same market. And I think they even relaxed it more in 2018. Just admit you're wrong when you're wrong. Here's a link, they can even own say a hockey team in a city where another owner has an NFL team as of 2018. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/10/17/nfl-finally-ditches-cross-ownership-policy/

Right. So when he sat Skinner for basically being a big tub of goo on the ice, how many people got on Kruger instead of Skinner?
-
I think they hoped Kruger and Adams are like McD and Beane in that they have a vision of how to build a consistent winning team, and that believe in processes to do so. For McD and Beane to do that with the Bills they had to move a lot of players out to get guys who bought in. Which brings me again to guys like Eichel. Is there a coach he will actually decide he wants to play for? Reinhardt? Skinner? When is it about the player and not the coach?
-
Wrong.
-
So let’s say Kruger gets canned. Then you’ll have Eichel and the rest of the underachievers say they are all in with what the new guy preaches, just like they’ve done the last two times. And then they’ll come out and underperform. Get players that want to play hockey.

Yes. The CDC is saying that if you have individuals WHO HAVE BEEN VACCINATED they can gather without masks. In Texas I believe only 7% of individuals have been vaccinated. Facts are stubborn things. -

The governors of Texas and Mississippi can make decisions for their state; one hopes their infection rates don't skyrocket as a result. By the same token, governors of other states that are more in tune with the existing CDC recommendation should be perfectly within their rights to ban any one traveling from Texas of Mississippi from entering their states. -

I'm going to guess you get all your information from right wing media sites. There's an old saying: if the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. No one is being "cancelled" and if people are losing their businesses and such it is because their comments are driving away customers. For example, I as an Independent will not buy Goya products because their chair espouses ridiculous takes on the past election. Same with Mr. Pillow. I choose not to do business with companies whose chairmen would spout such junk. If you can get more of your friends to make up that business, then they won't go out of business. The free market is a wonderful thing. -

This cancel culture stuff is fake. Societies undergoes changes with time. Businesses adapt to that. Again, in this particular case no one that has a rational brain is calling Theodore Seuss a racist. But in his time people of certain ethnicities were drawn in particular ways or characterized in certain ways. Like the Asian workers in his books. Or Hop Sing on Bonanza. As society changes such stereotypes are considered inappropriate, and as such businesses don't want to alienate customers, and make decisions on that basis. If you are say a white Anglo-Saxon like me, and you decide to no longer buy Dr. Suess books because they don't keep the stereotypical pictures, what does that say about you or me? We absolutely should live up to reverend King's standard. we're not there yet. A Vietnamese restaurant near my daughter was vandalized last week just because they are Asian; terrible racist slogans printed on their walls and now they feel forced to close. she has had racist comments made towards her because of where she's born. Dr. King has set the ideal standard; we have a ways to go to get there. -

The publishers can simply reprint these 6 books with updated artwork. Or not. It’s their call and it appears they’ve made it. You honestly should stop making exaggerated comparisons like repainting all the pictures in the Louvre. It detracts from your arguments and makes you look silly. -

And decades later when you see there are stereotypes there’s nothing wrong with fixing it. Did the books do permanent harm? No. Can they be improved? Yes. And what is the harm in doing so? -
Pegulas are the owners, they bear responsibility for the hires they made. With Kruger and Adams I think they want a pair that focuses on process and accountability like they have with the Bills. Whether they are the two is open to question. When do players accept accountability? I’ve watched the Sabres since 1970 and I’ve never seen a team with less heart. Coaches can do so much; when do players look within themselves. If I’m Terry I have Rick Dudley on the phone and ask him for an outside appraisal.

No, they were never intended to be racist. Yes, an Asian individual like my daughter could look at them and be offended by some of the pictures. So 50 years later you fix that. No big deal. -

You live and learn. I would never have been offended back in the day. But as the dad of an adopted Asian child I look at some of the pictures and they project a sterotype common back then that should not have been used. So the Seuss people realize it, and from what I understand will change the pictures and re-release. Win-win for all. -

As I recall Dr. Seuss favored liberal positions. I don’t think he was a racist. He was like many of us growing up in earlier times. We told jokes about different races, ethnicities and such. We called guys we didn’t like fags and such. Because that was what we did. And we were too dumb to acknowledge the error of our ways. I have two kids ages 25 and 19, and their generation gets what my generation should have gotten. They treat all with respect regardless of skin color or sexual identity and such. Good for them. -

When I first read this I thought it was ridiculous. But then I looked at some of the pictures, and how they would affect my one daughter who is adopted from China. And some of the pictures depicting Asians really are pretty bad and offensive.
