Yeah, he said that but it doesn’t mean trading to #3 was ever an option. Personally, I don’t think that was the reason. Indy said after the trade that they had other offers but they didn’t want to move down too far. Then on draft day, the Bills tried to trade from #12 to #6 and Indy once again refused. The Bills, obviously, landed at #7. I believe Indy was targeting the guy they drafted - Quenten Nelson, the only real stud OL in the draft, and knew he wouldn’t be there at #12. So, to get to #3 6 weeks before the draft, the Bills most likely would have had to go from #21to #12, then from #12 to #7, then #7 to #3. Has anything like that ever been done? I know for sure it has never been done 6 weeks before the draft. Then on top of all that, after giving up whatever it took to get to #3, they’d have to hope that the Giants didn’t sell the #2 pick, or the Browns didn’t take Darnold, which, at the time of the trade - 6 weeks before the draft, there was a lot of assumption that they would. IMO, the #3 pick was never a real option.

This is going to be a very interesting trade to revisit in 3 years time. It could very well work out well for one or both teams, be a disaster for one/both or land somewhere in the middle. I am not sure why Ryan Pace seems so sold on this current Bears team. Yeah, he added talent this offseason. But they are still an unproven team in my eyes, with an unproven QB that you hope turns into a franchise guy but definitely isn’t there yet. But, his record is something like 14-34 as a GM, so he may not be too worried about 2-3 yearsdown the line atm.

I thought Thomas out-performed O’Leary this offseason/preseason. Plus I guess he is excellent in the meeting room & on the sidelines. There was just an article on it recently. Check it out - https://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/index.ssf/2018/08/bills_tight_end_logan_thomas_using_qb_mindset_to_flourish.html

Any player waiver eligible, you have to put in a claim for and see if that player is awarded to you (determined by the waiver claim order, Bills are #22). Any player you claim has to be put on your 53 man roster. edit - here’s a pretty good explanation - https://www.cincyjungle.com/2018/9/1/17805562/nfl-cuts-2018-explaining-how-waiver-wire-works-claiming-order

Report: Martavious Bryant released
BillsFan4 replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don’t know if there is much point in even discussing potentially bringing in Bryant until we know how long his suspension is. He was already suspended for an entire season (2016) for repeated substance abuse policy violations. How long will this suspension be? -
I still think it’s Peterman. Allen was great week 2, but I think Peterman won the job fair and square from what I saw of him in preseason. He was consistently the best QB and produced with the 1’s, 2’s and 3’s. I think this just means that they have enough confidence in Allen to put him next in line. He was better than AJ so again, he earns the #2 spot fair and square. McDermott has taken many an opportunity to talk up Nate, too. Kind of reminds me of the way Rex took every chance to talk up Tyrod in 2015 before he won the starting job. Lorenzo Alexander even said he’d start Nate. So it seems that he has the backing of at least some of his veteran teammates. That is just my guess anyway. I may be way off base though. You may be right. It very well could be Allen day 1. Edit - plus as I’ve said all along, it’s much easier to go from Peterman to Allen than vise versa. You really only get 1 shot to start Allen (once he’s in, he’s in. Well most likely, anyway), so you better be sure.

"Big Name" cuts around the league...

Was just coming to post this cut. This is a guy I’d have interest in, but I doubt he is a culture fit here with his reported attitude issues. -

Yeah, I’ve heard people say that if his confidence is that easily shattered, he was likely never your long term answer anyway. That does make a lot of sense. My main worry, as far as his progression as a QB, is stuff like his footwork/mechanics, that is he trying to commit to muscle memory. He has only been working on it a couple months now. It is nowhere second nature for him yet. I am just concerned that being under constant siege is not the best way to accomplish that. Guys tend to revert to what they know best under those type of circumstances. I don't expect the O line to be as bad as they were in preseason though when there’s an actual game plan and scheme to help cover up weaknesses/play to strengths. I also expect that they will get better as the year goes on and they play together more. So hopefully it’ll be less of an issue if/when Allen gets in the games. It makes a lot more sense to turn to Allen than it does to AJ if the season is gone anyway. Might as well get him the experience at that point so he can hit the ground running next year.

It makes sense. AJ and Nate are very similar QBs. If Nate can’t have success behind this o line, AJ isn’t likely to either. So, if Nate fails it ain’t like AJ is going to come in and save the season. So at that point you may as well get Allen the reps I gusss. My only concern is hurting Allen’s Confidence and progression as a QB.

Would have been nice to get Mack, but that’s a crazy steep price. Especially with where the Bills might be picking in 2019 and the fact that Mack will easily get $20M or more. Giving Mack $20+M would take up roughly 1/3 of their available 2019 cap space (iirc). Thats a whole lot for 1 player when the Bills have holes almost everywhere on their roster. That also cuts into the talent you can surround Allen with in free agency, and also in the draft, giving up two 1sts and a 3rd. And that to me is priority - getting Allen some help, especially at WR’s and o line. We need to give him the best chance at being successful. He is crucial to any long term success the bills may have. Add in the fact that Mack is already 27 and it doesn’t make a ton of sense for where the Bills are at now, IMO. Chances are Mack will be a very productive player for years to come. But historically, there has been a noticeable drop off in D linemen’s production after their year 7 NFL season (and/or age 31 iirc).

Its not posted yet. I just looked. It should eventually post to NFL’s twitter, and the Oakland Raiders twitter. https://mobile.twitter.com/NFL?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author https://mobile.twitter.com/Raiders?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author -
Aaron Donald get extension, 6-year $135mm
BillsFan4 replied to Watkins90's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He gets his $40M bonus this year, but the 6 year extension doesn’t start until next season. So they have him for 7yrs total. Potential out for the team in 2022. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/los-angeles-rams/aaron-donald-14422/ -
Sal Carpaccio: Corey Coleman Is In Trouble
BillsFan4 replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Only thing that sucks about cutting him is the $3.5M dead cap hit this year, and $2M next year (according to spotrac/overthecap). Bills don’t save anything by cutting him. Im still hoping he sticks around, but I think it’s a long shot. -

Yeah, he has to be a pretty happy guy today, I’d think. -
Aaron Donald get extension, 6-year $135mm
BillsFan4 replied to Watkins90's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Damn. So $22.5M per year. That makes him the highest paid Defensive linemen by a pretty comfortable margin. It looks like the next closest guy is at $17.1M. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/rankings/average/defensive-line/ Crazy to see Dareus listed at #8. -
Looking for a new TV, looking g for advice
BillsFan4 replied to mrags's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Yeah, for sure. At least a year, if not 2. As much as I would absolutely love to buy this, I don’t think I can bring myself to spend $6000 or more (guessing...) on a TV. Definitely interested in seeing it in person though. I am going to be watching the price of those Z9D’s for sure! I’m betting it’ll drop to $2500 soon. How do you like your Z9D btw? How does it perform when watching regular cable? Do you notice a big difference in picture quality? How do Bills games look? -
