Life on the Sidelines: Brian Daboll

100% agree with everything you said. -
Columbus is streaming momday’s game on bluejackets.com. I am not sure if it’s only for in-market or not, but even if it is there should be a way to watch it. Hopefully the Sabres will just pick up the stream, like NJ did with the prospects game. Everyone feel free to contact the Sabres and recommend they do....

No! Not San Jose! lol I know their 1st next year isn’t going to be all that high. But I was at least hoping for a 1st round playoff exit so we could get a pick in that 16-20ish range. At at first glance, the return doesn’t seem all that amazing. But I am unsure of who some of those prospects even are. a 2019 or 2020 1st round pick? So I wonder how they decide if Buffalo,or Ottawa get the 2019 1st? Edit - condition are, if Sn Jose misses the playoffs in 2019 Ottawa gets their (2019) 1st. If SJ makes the playoffs, Buffalo gets their 2019 1st and Ottawa gets their 2020 1st.

Agree on Incognito. Also liked hearing about Botterill. It definitely shows the type of person he is. I feel for Lehner and hope these changes are permanent. One thing ing that I keep thinking about though - When Lehner gave that timeline, saying the heavy drinking + drug use and mental health issues all go back at least 7 years.... how did Tim Murray not know this before trading for him? He was there with him in Ottawa and Binghamton.

You are right. That’s what I said. But also notice the “or from a discussion with” part. I guess i could have been more clear on what I meant. I wasn’t saying that they directed/forced him to write that article, as you seemed to imply. I was saying that maybe they called him up and discussed their thinking with him in order to help get their message out to the fans. Or maybe he wrote the article because of a conversation he had with them. Stuff like that happens all the ime. All I meant is that the way the article was written, it seemed to me that some of the info may have come from a Bills source.

Agreed. I think they are far from clueless, and I think they have a clear plan + vision for this team (which is more than I can say for most of the previous regimes). I know that many around here really seem to have turned on them after last Sunday. But I am still a big fan of McDermott. This year was was always going to be a struggle, with the crazy amount of dead cap space and likely struggles of a rookie QB. I have high hopes for the future, though.

9-12: Sean McDermott & Shady-Allen Pressers Live
BillsFan4 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Man, some of these reactions to McDermott’s press conference are wild. I honestly feel like I watched a different press conference than some of you did. People really see what they want to see, I guess... -
This was the only choice there was to make. The Bills brass put themselves in this position. If they truly wanted to keep Josh off the field to start the season, they did an absolutely terrible job of that. Now I just hope beyond hope that Josh looks ok out there... I don’t expect him to be great by any means. As long as he doesn’t look like he’s drowning, I will be happy. That is my biggest fear - what if Josh looks like he’s drowning out there? Then what? This is was the right choice, though. Nate looked like a deer in the headlights every time they showed a close up. He looked wide eyed and almost scared. He looked in way over his head. The entire offense got s spark when Allen came in. You could see the change quite clearly. These guys better go out there and ball out for Allen on Sunday. Every one of them should be doing everything they can to help their rookie QB (which wasn’t the case for Nate). I want to see 100% effort by everyone in every play. I’d they don’t do everything in their power to help Allen, they deserve to be cut.

The owner said he tried everything he could to keep Yzerman (which is rumored to possibly have included a bigger ownership stake in the team), so I don’t think that was it. I do think that factored into Yzerman’s decision to step down now, though. Yeah, for sure. I also think his family factors in. They’ve continued to live in Detriot the entire 8-9 years Yzerman has been Tampa’s GM.

McBeane's way of rebuilding makes no sense
BillsFan4 replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
17 years without playoffs. It was one of the longest playoff droughts in sports history. Guys in the front office that kept their jobs no matter the results on the field. You don’t buy that a bad culture had developed? Do you know what type of incompetence it takes to miss the playoffs 17 straight years? Especially once the salary cap era started, which was designed in part to create parity around the league. I have zero issue believing that there was a culture problem at one bills drive. -

It was reported long before McDermott was hired, that the Bills weren’t even trying to negotiate a new deal with Woods. Not 100% sure of the reason. But I did read that he wanted to go home to California (which is what ended up happening). It makes me think that maybe he wasn’t interested in re-signing here. -
Looking for a new TV, looking g for advice

Thanks. Do you game on it at all? Or leave it on a menu/pause screen accidentally (etc) at times? Or anything lose that would put it st danger of burn-in? You have an LG I take it? Is it the C8 you linked? -
I think it’s a nice way of saying that Vontae has struggled so much that they value a depth player’s flexibility over Davis. In other words, they didn’t want to say that he has stunk... lol. I am sure that they are hoping he still returns to form as he continues to get back into game shape after his injury (otherwise they wouldn’t have kept him on the roster for week 1 and guaranteed his salary). But yeah, the early returns on Davis are not looking too good.

Looking for a new TV, looking g for advice

Yeah I’ve looked at the OLED’s. I absolutely love their picture quality but I’m not sure it would be best for what I plan on using it for - gaming, more then anything else. I am really scared of the burn-in issues. I’ve had salesmen and TV reps tell me it’s not an issue anymore, but some of the display LG tv’s in Best Buy have severe burn-in issues. I know it’s from them showing the same thing on a constant loop all day, every day. But that’s why I worry about gaming on an OLED. A lot of the games I like to play have HUD’s (heads up displays) that are constantly in the same spot on the screen. Plus, burn-in isn’t covered by LG’s warranty. So if it happens, I’m SOL. Ive also read that just like Plasma TVs, OLED needs to be handled differently than the LED TVs do. That you have to baby them more, and run programs to make sure the color burn-in is even among all the pixels (etc). Ive never had a plasma or OLED so I am unfamiliar with all of this stuff. I do do plan on checking out the OLED Tv’s again anyway. I have a list of a few TVs I want to compare - - Sony’s Z9F - Sony’s new master series A9F OLED TV - Samsung Q9F - LG C and E series OLEDs Do you have an OLED? If so, what is your feedback? Sony’s Z9 series is actually pretty comparable to a plasma, if not better in some aspects. The black levels aren’t quite as good, but they are close. And the brightness is worlds better. Their new master series TVs are supposed to be the closest thing to a professional grade movie studio monitor that’s available to the average consumer. -

Replacing his spot on the PS with a QB? That’s my best guess. -

https://www.sony.com/electronics/televisions/xbr-z9f-series They announced the pricing for the new Z9F. It’s actually way better than I thought. The 65” is only $3499. The Z9D is still $2999 at Best Buy. Looks like they actually already have the new Z9F in stock - https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-65-class-led-z9f-master-series-2160p-smart-4k-uhd-tv-with-hdr/6278280.p?skuId=6278280 Now I know what I’m doing this weekend! lol That price is very enticing... $3499 is doable. The 75” is $5999. I honestly thought that’s about what the 65” would cost. Sony is being much more aggressive in their pricing. It’s good to see. -
Just watched the Tampa Bay press conference. Boy, Julien BriseBois inspires a lot of confidence. You can see why is was so highly thought of and in demand around the NHL. I think he is going to be a very good GM for Tampa. They have what seems to be a great owner too. He also inspired a lot of confidence in this move. But he pissed me off with his comment about “we are so lucky that some other NHL team didn’t steal JB from us”. Lucky? You guys outright refused to even let him interview for GM jobs. I don’t know how many requests they denied, but I know it was multiple. Buffalo tried to interview him before they hired Botterill and Tampa refused the request. I gor got the impression that Steve Y. is gone once his contract is up at the end of this year. It sounds like he made this decision in part to spend more time with his family, but also because he did not want to renew his GM contract with Tampa. Whether the reason for that is truly to spend more time with his family or not will be determined by what he does in the next year or two. I don’t know if he would be willing to let Detriot fire Holland in order to replace him. It may have to wait until Holland’s deal is up in 2 years. Unless Holland leaves willingly, to join Seattle or something like that. But yeah I could totally see that happening eventually. It makes too much sense not to happen. He spent his entire 22 year career as a player there (age 18-40) and then got his start as an executive there. It seems like it’s only a matter of time until he’s back as the GM/team president.

I don’t doubt that the OP talked to a Bills exec (whether current or recently let go). This is obviously just my opinion, and I am basing this opinion on very very little information, so I could be totally out of line here... but it made me wonder if it is just someone who is resentful of the power given to this new staff to make changes. There were some serious Ralph Wilson cronies embedded in the Bills organization. They had some crazy good job security for a long, long time, no matter the results on the field. I can see where they wouldn’t like this new regime, who was finally given the power to make sweeping changes.
