  1. Whoa! Craziness. Montreal’s owner and fan base have to be sad to hear this. I honestly think Geoff Moulson has just been waiting for BriseBois to become available (being a francophone and highly regarded asst. GM and all...). His contract was set to expire within the next year or two IIRC. Tampa hasn’t been allowing him to interview anywhere, even though there were many requests. Maybe now we know why...
  2. It makes the organization look bad as a whole. Without knowing what McDermott and Daboll (etc) said/did behind the scenes, it’s hard to know how much blame they deserve. Maybe they wanted to keep AJ. Or maybe they wanted to go after a more veteran QB in the offseason. I keep thinking of Beane comments about how he told his staff “don’t let me get into chasing and overpaying for one of these vet QBs...”. But yeah, If both McDermott and Daboll were indeed ok going into the season with Nate and Josh, then it makes them look bad. If they truly thought Allen needed time to sit and learn, they did a terrible job insulating him from being forced into game action. And if Allen shows he’s not ready to start, I don’t even know what you do... they’ve really backed themselves into a corner here.
  3. I think that’s a big reason why Peterman started this past Sunday. IMO, McDermott even hinted at it in his post game presser. when asked about protecting Allen and eventually putting him in the game, he said he looks at the QB position form a lot of different angles, and considers not only who is playing QB but who is around him on offense. Then said “but I also have to consider what puts the football team in the best position to win games, as well” (which I took to mean “that’s why I eventually had to put Allen in”).
  4. I feel like he kind of did say that, in a round about way. He’s not the type that is going to be over-emotional in his responses, and say things like “we sucked. We were terrible” etc. The first thing he said was that “we didn’t intend to come out playing like that and coaching like that. We have a lot to learn from that game. We’ll look at the tape. We have a lot of work to do.... A lot of work to do. We’ll get to work on it as soon as we leave the locker room”. Said any time you allow that many points it’s concerning. Said “we have to go back, look at the film and be critical, be objective of what we were doing...” then said “I’m going to look at everything and make sure we are putting ourselves in a position to win football games”. He also said how he’s going to make sure he is putting guys in the right position to be successful, and make sure that every guy is doing their jobs. Said he will evaluate every position. Said “I am going to look at myself having this team ready to go. Make sure I’m doing my job the right way. The first person I am going to look at is myself”. He went on to say (again) that they have a ton of things to correct and that he will begin immediately after they leave the locker room. He doesn’t come straight out and say it was a dumpster fire, but you don’t talk like that and say the things McD said when you think your football team played well. I feel like he did take responsibility for how bad they were and said they will evaluate everything and work to correct it. I think he just did it in a different way than some wanted him to.

Make sure I’m doing my job the right way. The first person I am going to look at is myself” and then went on to say that “I am going to make sure I am putting every player in a position to have success”. (Starts at 4:30) Would you not say that he was taking some responsibility when he said that?

  7. I don’t know that he will ever be even a backup caliber QB, but I still think he will grow from experience as most people do... that’s all I meant. I am sure there is. I havw no no issue with McD’s pressers though. I think it’s smart not to give up any info to the press. Other NFL teams try to exploit any possible advantage they can find, so if McD is guarded to the press, then so be it. I’d rather have a coach handle the press like McD than one who handled it like Rex did. But that’s just my preference. I understand why a lot of people loved Rex’s press conferences. He could definitely be entertaining. I keep seeing people saying this, but Belichick has pretty much always been that way with the press. When he was the head coach in Cleveland, he was tight lipped too, and he surely hadn’t earned it at that point. Belichick has never believed in sharing any unnecessary information with the media.
  8. Damn, I really feel for this kid. He overcame a lot (with that Crohn’s disease) to even get back to the NFL. I was happy when I heard he warned the starting RT job. It’s a shame this happened...
  9. I find this surprising. What type of disfunction are we talking about? And between whom? This is the first time in a long time that the coach and GM actually seem like they’re on the same page. I can see where maybe staff members that preceded McDermott might be uneasy, because he has not been hesitant to make changes and clear out the last regime.
  10. I agree. Nate will grow with experience. But it what I have trouble with is, why go through a throw away season struggling to overcome Nate’s rookie growing pains only to most likely have to do it all over again next year with Josh Allen? Now if Josh shows that he is sinking, and just truly isn’t ready to be on the field, I get it. I don’t want to ruin him. But otherwise, if Josh looks capable and this is going to be a throw away season anyway, might as well have him starting so he can hit the ground running next year.
  11. Exactly. Some don’t seem to get this. McDermott gains nothing by pubically throwing his players under the bus. But just because he doesn’t openly criticize his players to the media doesn’t mean he isn’t doing it behind closed doors.
  12. Yes. Well, at leas he showed that ability from what I watched of him this preseason...
  13. I don’t know if they claimed him or not but I know he’s in Tampa.
  14. Yup. I’ll take him over Washington

  17. Lets see what they do with the roster spot...
  18. Wow! Now that was fun. 10-2 Buffalo. Nylander with 2+2 Asplund with 1+3 (and that 1g was an absolute highlight reel goal) Mittelstadt with 3 A’s Good game by pretty much everyone tonight. Much better system play and teamwork compared to that bruins game.
  19. Boo! No Dahlin. No Thompson. No Borgen. No Guhle. Sitting Luukkonen for Jonas Johansson.
  20. I think it’s a combination of things. McDermott needs good LB’s and a good pass rush for his defensive scheme to work as well as it did in Carolina. As of now, this D line doesn’t look like they could sack a QB to save their lives. Struggling to get pressure and sacks is going to hurt any defense. It’s a major area of needed improvement. Hopefully Trent Murphy can help improve that as he gets back to form, but 8m not holding my breath... We also look like we need a #2 CB and possibly a nickel CB as well. Gaines was pretty bad today. But McDermott has shown an ability to develop mid/late round CBs in the past, so we will see what happens there. A better pass rush could also improve the entire secondary alone. Lets not write the D off yet though. It took Carolina’s defense a while to come together too. They struggled for the first season and a half McDermott was there. Then the last 6 games of McD’s second season, the defense took a good step forward. Then they were the #2 defense in the NFL the following season. Now, the timeline is probably different in Buffalo because Carolina wasn’t in the initial stages of a rebuild like the Billls are. But I do expect this defense to show improvements as the season goes on.
  21. I was thinking the same thing during the game. Just think about how many starting caliber players that $54M could buy. That’s 5 guys at a $10M per year salary, or almost 11 guys at $5M per. I mean, there’s only 11 guys on the field at a time... (not that I realistically think you can sign 11 starters for $5M each, just trying to put it in perspective). I don’t think it can be debated that the $54M in dead cap is easily taking away from the quality of product the Bills can field. That’s at the very least a few starters and a lot of depth that they are unable to field this season. I am definitely still hopeful for the future. 1 terrible game won’t change that. But that doesn’t make today any less brutal. I hate seeing the Bills get embarrassed so very badly. It makes it hard not to start doubt everything... and I mean everything - from the GM to the ball boy... lol j/k. Seriously though, it does start to plant those seeds of doubt about this GM and coaching staff.
  22. Personally, I like calling him Suckass. I think it’s a pretty fitting nickname... lol.
  23. McDermott pretty much confirmed that starting Gaines over Davis had nothing to do with injury. He said that Gaines had a great week of practice and they thought starting him was the best decision for the team.
