  1. So much debate over a play that was thrown for a TD. The all-22 world has gone crazy. I trust Allen in the scheme that he's been personally running for five years now to know what he's doing. That doesn't mean it's always going to be perfect. But if an analyst finds a reason to criticize this play, it's because they're looking for one. I've become so sick of people watching film assuming that they know everyone's individual assignment and the reads the QB is supposed to follow. Kurt Warner is a HOF QB but not in this scheme in this offense with Josh Allen's skill set. If a play ends in a passing TD, unless it was a complete fluke you can say that the QB and the pass catcher did their job correctly. It isn't that complicated.
  2. Almost certainly Bates at center with Van Roten at RG. Van Roten apparently only gave up one pressure in his playing time against the Dolphins and Joe Buscaglia graded him well. We can manage with that OL for a game especially against a weak pass rushing unit.
  3. This is a fantastic article from an unbiased writer. I'm not going to copy and paste it. Go read it.
  4. Not at all, our YAC was terrible last year. Most of the time receivers were catching the ball and then immediately getting tackled. It's a function of the receiving corps we've built. No YAC specialists. I thought Shakir was supposed to be that type but he hasn't been utilized. Same with Cook but despite being fast he gets tackled with very little resistance so that minimizes his ability to break long runs after catches.
  5. Okay, so should Allen literally never look for deep throws? Should he assume before every snap that Spencer Brown will lose his rep and forget about even trying to make explosive plays? Maybe against the Lions instead of waiting in the pocket for Diggs to get open downfield he should have just thrown a check down and conceded overtime? There's no good answers here. In general I think the offense could use more quick pass designs, but you have to hit explosive plays to consistently win football games. If he had another second of protection he probably gets that pass off and who knows if it's completed but it's a chance at an explosive play. I just think it's a little unfair to Allen to criticize him for letting plays develop. It's not like there was a jailbreak on the play, Spencer Brown just got beat.
  6. He has the luxury of taking care of the ball because he doesn't have to be the team's entire offense. Allen and Mahomes don't have the luxury of the best run offense in football, the best OL in football, and two #1 WRs. If they don't put it all on the line every week their teams will lose most games, and yes that leads to turnovers but it also leads to unbelievable plays that are necessary to win the game. Case in point the Texans and Dolphins arguably outplayed the Chiefs and Bills in their respective matches last weekend, the only reason their teams won is because of the QB play. I'll be surprised if the Eagles offense drops off that far with Gardner Minshew but we'll see.
  7. Not at all. He's electric as a runner. As a passer he is still missing a lot of basic throws and reads. Allen was reading defenses much better than Fields was in his sophomore season. Right now he is still making college reads.
  8. He's possibly the most exciting player in the NFL with the ball in his hands, but decidedly less so when the ball leaves his hands.
  9. Why does this post sound like a threat
  10. Allen decides at the snap that Morris with the safety in trail is the right read. He never considered Singletary on the play. Both options may have been acceptable, but Allen chooses the one running into the end zone with the coverage man's back to the QB. He immediately identifies that this leverage gives him a perfect window to hit the throw or at worst get DPI. He rolls to the right because that gives him the best angle to make the throw he's decided to make. I was genuinely shocked to hear Kurt Warner accuse him of bailing the pocket early. He's not bailing the pocket, he's setting up his throw. I agree with others that Kurt Warner does a good job explaining route concepts and how a QB should read things. But there's a million people doing these types of videos right now. That single play was such a bad piece of analysis that I decided it's not worth my time.
  11. Thanks for posting but I only got through 9 minutes before giving up. Kurt Warner clearly doesn't like Allen's style and it colors his evaluation. So on the 1st drive he talks about the miss to McKenzie on 3rd down. He says a throw to Davis at the sticks is the easier throw. But the read to McKenzie is fine, he's open Allen just sails the pass. The play was bad but not for the reason Kurt Warner says. Then on the TD to Morris he criticizes Allen for immediately running out of the pocket. I guess Kurt Warner hasn't watched a lot of Allen film, because Allen runs to the right all the time to set up an easier throw. He isn't bailing the pocket, he immediately sees that Morris is in single man coverage with the safety in trail so he runs to the right to set up a good angle and then throws a dime. That is the kind of throwing platform Allen prefers. This play in particular was unbelievably poor analysis so that was the end of the video for me.
  12. The difference is last year he scored 0.6 TDs per game, this year he has scored 0.31 TDs per game. So last year he basically doubled this year's scoring output. One positive is his drop percentage is only 3.4% this year, down from 5.6% last year, and that's coming off a game with two drops. I think Knox is our best red zone weapon not named Josh Allen so there is a lot of meat left on the bone there. For some reason we don't make it a point to get the ball in his hands in the red zone consistently. It was nice to see all 4 of our passing TDs go to TEs and RBs on Saturday. We haven't utilized those positions to their fullest potential this season. Maybe Dorsey has finally figured that out.
  13. Love all the fans trying to claim that soft snowballs are dangerous. These guys are on the field experiencing mini car crashes 20 times a game 17+ weeks a year. A snowball is going to be the thing that ends their season? The turf they play on is more dangerous than that. I guess I'm in the minority but I thought it was all in good fun. If the NFL disagrees I suppose they can flip ours and Miami's home games next year to coincide with the home team's respective weather conditions... But I guarantee they'll be coming to us next December, like they do every year. The NFL loves this stuff. No chance they were going to call a 15 yard penalty either. As soon as they announced that, it took all of two seconds to realize the immediately obvious logical flaw in that scenario.
  14. I thought Elam made some great plays on the ball against the Dolphins and almost came down with an interception. To me he has been the better player all year, and while I trust this coaching staff with their DB evaluations I can't see why they have put him behind Dane Jackson on the depth chart for most of the season. It's not like Jackson is a high pedigree player, he's a 7th round pick who couldn't even beat out Levi Wallace for a starting spot. Do we beat the Chiefs if Elam doesn't have that interception in the endzone on their first offensive drive? I don't know if the coaches have just intentionally been making it hard on him to make him feel like he has to earn a role, but after his performance against the Dolphins I think it's time to make the permanent switch and move forward with a consistent secondary.
  15. Okay maybe not a broken collarbone. Sounds like if anything he would miss a game or two in the regular season and then be back for the playoffs. If any team can manage this it's the Eagles.
  16. Not officially confirmed yet but word is getting out. EDIT:
  17. It's stupid to penalize Allen and Mahomes for turnovers. The same style of play that allows them to carry undertalented offenses with below average running games also causes them to turn the ball over more than average. You can't have one without the other. Hurts has the best running game in the league and two #1 WRs and arguably the best OL in the league. He doesn't have to take chances. But I get it, the MVP voters don't think that hard about it.
  18. The Most Valuable Player award should be renamed the QB of the Best Team in the NFL award. That's who it goes to every year. By the meaning of the award no chance Hurts should win. There's a much better case to be made for Allen, Mahomes, Burrow, even Lamar Jackson, Tyreek Hill, and AJ Brown to name a few others. But Hurts wins it by default unless he stumbles.
  19. If they can kiss and makeup with Beasley, they can easily do it with Watkins. Also John Brown only has one more free call up. We could use one more roster worthy WR to elevate for the stretch run.
  20. I would add him to the PS if he clears waivers. Nothing to lose and we could use more depth outside.
  21. The 49ers didn't stop the Dolphins. Tua just played an awful game. He missed a ton of wide open WRs including a couple that would have gone for TDs. Tua has played most of the year like he did on Saturday, a limited style of QB play but good enough to get the ball into the hands of one of his elite weapons in space. The Shanahan scheme IMO is the best in football, very hard for even elite defenses to stop when the right personnel is in the system. My biggest disappointment was not our scheme, it was missed tackles and underwhelming pass rush. Hamlin is a disaster and our DL without Von Miller doesn't have a ton of juice. I think Oliver might still be feeling the effects of his pec injury too, he was invisible all night. Only so much the coaches can do. On defense more than ever now it's about the players more than the coaches. For offense a little more responsibility falls on the coaching IMO.
