I don't leave a tip behind at the hotel room either. Maybe it's an out-of-sight, out-of-mind thing for me. On the other hand, I've been on 2 cruises, both with young kids. Room keeping set up some awesome/hilarious towel 'sculptures' during the day and they got tipped.

I haven't listened to FM radio regularly for awhile but saw this article about the death of tri-state area radio station WPLJ (95.5) https://www.newsday.com/entertainment/music/wplj-shuts-down-1.31758864 And was reminded of the song the Mothers covered:

In honor of the late great John Bonham, a bad-@ss Zep song that doesn't get enough play IMO:

I hear what your saying. I have my own tipping habits which probably range from modestly generous to downright cheap depending on your perspective. I was just trying to acknowledge that another countries customs might differ and calling them stupid seemed kind of stupid to me.
-
Stupid or unexpected? Maybe a cultural difference? Which perhaps speaks to OP's premise of a growing expectations of tips.

It was a cold and wet December day When we touched the ground at JFK Snow was melting on the ground On BLS I heard the sound Of an angel New York, like a Christmas tree Tonight this city belongs to me Angel Soul love, this love won't let me go So long, angel of Harlem Birdland on fifty three The street sounds like a symphony We got John Coltrane and a love supreme Miles, and she's got to be an angel

I think it was @plenzmd1 that put this doc together with the help of others. It includes some hotel info: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1F9yhWkCZkeTFX_6yagiiwCPu-JUnhBAxuPILxW8U438/edit -

I'm not defending the trade but there's a long way to go before we reach Nolan Ryan for Jim Fregosi proportions

Danger, danger the Queen's about to kill There's a stranger, stranger and life about to spill Oh no move me out of harm I need a spell and a charm Fly like the wind I'm no pawn, so be gone, speed on and on Kill the king

Ain't a hope in hell Nothing is gonna bring us down The way we fly Five miles off the ground Because we shoot to kill And you know we always will It's a bomber, it's a bomber

It wasn't very large There was just enough room to cram the drums In the corner over by the Dodge It was a fifty-four With a mashed up door And a cheesy little amp With a sign on the front said "Fender Champ" And a second hand guitar It was a Stratocaster with a whammy bar

Restaurant tipping is straight forward. I'm tipping on the service, not the meal. 20% is the standard (including drinks). Could go higher or lower but usually not by much either way. If I'm with a big group I'll kick in extra after the anal retentive calculator folks figure out "what's right". Hotel tipping is more interesting. They seem to always have their hand out for services I have little use for. Bell boy? You better get running now, I can handle my own bags. Does anyone tip the maids for daily service? I don't. But I'll leave a buck or two for clearing our plates while we are in between rounds of gluttony at the breakfast buffet.

LOL, you sound like my father. That's a good thing IMO even if I don't always live up to his ideals.

I had never heard the phrase until I caught up with an old friend around 5 years ago. He used it in a business context that night.....incessantly. His son was a high school senior. Maybe his co-workers had college age kids. For my money they can never use it enough.

I ride on the bus into the city every day I sit on my seat and I dream myself away I dream I'm on an island with that foxy lady too But when I awaken, I must be mistaken, I'm on Third Avenue

I always admired him as a player. One of my earliest memories of Buckner was the Dodgers playing a Saturday game of the week. Lasorda was coaching third and miked up for the broadcast when "Billy Buck" hit a triple. RIP.

Fleet Week probably helps.

7 day IL or 10?

Current injury list includes: Conforto, McNeil, Cano, Nimmo, Lowrie. Have to give VW credit for having a backup plan and guys like the J.D. Davis, Carlos Gomez, Rajai Davis, Hechevarria and (I cannot believe I'm typing this) Dom Smith ready to step in. And he still has Danny Espinosa and Gregor Blanco in Syracuse.

Twelve hours out of Mackinac City Stopped in a bar to have a brew Met a girl and we had a few drinks And I told her what I'd decided to do She looked out the window a long long moment Then she looked into my eyes She didn't have to say a thing I knew what she was thinkin' Roll, roll me away Won't you roll me away tonight I too am lost, I feel double-crossed And I'm sick of what's wrong and what's right We never even said a word We just walked out and got on that bike And we rolled And we rolled clean out of sight

Tomorrow You're gonna have to live with the things you say Tomorrow You'll have to cross bridges that you burned today Tomorrow And everything you do, it's coming back for you You'll never outrun what waits for you Tomorrow

Bruins are doomed. Every team that swept a series this post season lost in the next round and 2 of the 3 were swept. For the first time in my life I am St. Louis Blues fan.
