I'm an Islander fan and wonder whether his perception of Buffalo negativity is influenced by the self-admitted substance-abuse/bipolar/depression issues that he was dealing with in Buffalo. The Newsday article presents him in a different mind frame than his post to The Athletic.

Nice rules clarification. I feel like I've heard that before but wouldn't have come up with it on my own. Not sure who was announcing but last year I couldn't stomach the Sunday night crew. If I heard them say "ambush" one more time I would've had to check the Best Buy circulars for a deal on a new TV.

He's played well this year. I wasn't aware of his shoot-out problems, but I haven't noticed any problem with that. After giving up the most goals in the league last year, defense has been a major emphasis and obviously Lamoriello/Trotz have had a positive impact. Lehner has been rotating with Greiss who has also played well. I think they have both been good but also benefited from the system.

It's not just more demoralizing, it's more productive. I've been eviscerated by good friends for this opinion but I had a problem with Sanders dancing behind the line. He put the Lions into long down and distance way too often for me. His balance and agility were beyond compare, no doubt an all-time great talent, just not my top RB for that reason. I can't go with Jim Brown simply because I never saw him play. By all accounts he's a great choice, maybe the best. OJ is at the top of my list and Earl and Bo get honorable mentions because they were freakishly dominating but I'll go with Sweetness. A remarkable combination of everything you want in a RB. He did it all.

Another stat from today that I just came across. DeGrom had 10 strikeouts and Scherzer had 12. First time since 1970 that opening day starters each had 10 or more strikeouts (Dave McNally and Sudden Sam McDowell). That's really surprising to me. Nearly half a century.

Mets had 5 hits today...4 of them came from guys who never had a hit for the Mets before today. DeGrom picks up where he left off last year and Calloway does the smart thing and limits him to 93 pitches. And I just noticed that Lugo struck out all three batters he faced.

I heard Mickey on the way home today. Alonso is starting against the righty tomorrow and will bat high in the order, probably 2nd or 3rd.

Padres did the same thing with Fernando Tatis Jr. I'm not sure if any team held back a rookie to gain an extra year of control. This is pure speculation on my part, but with the collective bargaining agreement up for renegotiation in 2021 maybe the owners plan on giving up the service time loop-hole.

I almost never go to a doctor for a cold. I've always just rode them out. A few years ago I was turned on to Cold-Eeze (zinc?). I start taking them when I start feeling cold symptoms coming on and it seems to shortens the duration and lessens the severity.

If the sport being different didn't matter you would not have brought up Scooter, which is a great comparison/talking point. Better career vs. better player is a great distinction. Gronk beats Gonzalez on both. Ernie crushes Phil on one, Phil crushes Ernie on the other.

As much as I can't stand him for the Tre White BS, Gronk is arguably the greatest TE ever. But arguing that the Pats success during his career somehow makes him better (or diminishes another TEs career that wasn't a Pat) makes no sense to me.

Ernie Banks must have sucked.

I'm not against the Gronk> Other TE's arguments, but do you think Gronk would have made one of Gonzalez's teams a playoff winner? Since when do TE's win playoff games? Kellen Winslow was a long time ago.
