basically yes, everyone else turned the job down Chan Gailey also fits into this category, only perhaps worse. In the 2010 off season Buddy Nix was hired as GM. Russ Brandon let it slip to the media that the Bills were willing to pay their next head coach 10 million per. This got the Bills interviews with both Bill Cowher and Mike Shanahan. Even though Shanny had already agreed to a contract with the Redskins he wanted to listen to what Buffalo offered. Naturally after the Interviews that amount of money was never offered to anyone. Once that word got out most everyone who had asked for an interview were no longer interested in the job. Even assistant coaches that were called were now declining interviews. Buddy Nix wanted to hire Marty Schottenheimer and Ralph Wilson said no. In all probability because he wouldn't be a puppet figure as HC and wouldn't let Wilson micromanage him like he did with others recently. It was known that Dick Jauron was on the phone to Detroit daily during the season. After this Buddy Nix was getting desperate to find someone. Bill Cowher had stated in his interview that he would hire Gailey as his OC. At that time Gailey was out of the NFL as he was fired from the Chiefs as their OC two years previous. So, the Bills hire Gailey and promote him to head coach. Talk about a reach, in his 3 seasons in Buffalo as HC he never got better then 6-10. Some bills fans still love the guy...dunno why either. He had his choice between Fitz, Trent Edwards and Brian Brohm and chose Edwards. Gailey was lucky that Fitz was even on the roster or the team would have been worse than 6-10, much worse!

Daboll Brutal Down the Stretch

Wrong! Barkley has had a 60% completion percentage or darn near until he plays in Daboll's offense. Now its 52.9%. Daboll and his craptastic scheme did that to him. Josh Allen was the hero after the first half 13-0 and suddenly the Bills forgot how to run the ball in the second half. Frank Gore went 8 for 22 yards a 2.5 avg.with a 14 yard run, take away that 14 yard run and 7 times he ran for 1 yard! Totally stupid to lose that way and it falls on the coaches. The Texans asked Watson to throw only 25 times while running it 33 times. Reverse that with Buffalo and the Bills win! -

You know you're right. This loss is on McD! If he blames the QB for trying to do too much while allowing the OC call 48 passes a game. They both should be fired. Make Leslie Frazier the HC and promote Ken Dorsey to OC or hire Pat Schumer to OC. Watching the Titans do to the Patriots what I had been hoping the Bills would do to them leaves me asking why could the Bills do this? -
Daboll Brutal Down the Stretch

Its not just on Allen as Barkley has looked bad in Brian Daboll's overly complicated passing offense too. In fact, every offense this man has been in charge of the passing offense is in the 20's or 30's regardless of who the QB is... The NE Patriots had the #1 defense and #2 against the pass. #1 in TD passes allowed and #1 in INTs. So what did Tennessee do to beat them? 40 rushes-16 passes. Yea, Tannehill was 9 of 16 for 76 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT. Meanwhile, RB Derrick Henry 34 rushes for 182 yards, 1 TD. IN NEW ENGLAND! -
McDermott: Josh Allen 'tried to do too much' in loss
Nihilarian replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is exactly right! if this was McDs idea to throw that much perhaps he needs to go. Allen throwing 48 times a game is moronic. That is what you see losing teams do once they are behind in a game. Not when you have a 13 point half time lead Frank Gore a 8 carries for 22 yards 2.8 ypc avg and a 14 yard run the longest. Now take away that one 14 yard run and its 7 carries for 7 yards, a 1.0 ypc avg. This loss is all on the coaching staff IMO. -
The entire decade of the 70s they failed to beat the Miami Dolphins once as Don Shula owned Buffalo! Chuck Knox changed that and then the Bills owner lets him walk because he didn't want to give him a raise! Four super bowl losses only to see arguably the greatest GM of his time who built a SB team in Buffalo leave because the owner was such a notoriously cantankerous, frugal team owner. You want to know frustration...be a Bills fan from the 70's to late 80's and again from the 2000's to 2018. All those years from the 60's championships to the late 80's. Then watching Tom Brady and Bill Belichick own the Buffalo Bills for almost 20 years has been the epitome of frustration. These years since the 2017 season are growing pains as usually no team goes from bottom of the division in one season. It usually takes years to build a super bowl contender. Jim Kelly's first season in Buffalo was a 1986 4-12 loser with the HC fired and replaced. The next full season under Marv Levy / Kelly was a 7-8 loser but we Bills fans could see the team getting better. The 1988 12-4 season the Bills went to Cincy for the AFC Championship game. In 1989 they went 9-7 and to Cleveland for a WC game. Growing pains... If you know me you know that I have been preaching to run the ball more and throw less all season. This current OC has been like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde with his game calling and when the Bills run it more than they throw it they have won games. Conversely when they throw it more they lose. The Tennessee Titans just showed the world how to beat the New England Patriots IN New England with Derrick Henry rushing for 34 carries 182 yards, 1 TD. Buffalo is a better team then the Titans as they beat them in Tennessee this season. Better defense for certain. Moron for an OC at times who refuses to run the ball in some games. This Titans win in NE is nothing new as Baltimore has done this a few times over the years by running the ball down Belichick's throat. From another thread. "If you go back and look over what has won games on offense for the Bills the latter half of this season. Its when they have a balanced offensive attack or run more often and pass less. That Steelers game, Buffalo 38 rushes, 25 passes =win! That Cowboys game, Buffalo 34 rushes, 25 passes = win! That Denver game, Buffalo 47 rushes, 25 passes = win! That Redskins game, Buffalo 39 rushes, 20 passes =win! Conversely, That Cleveland Game, Buffalo 20 rushes, 41 passes = loss That Baltimore game, Buffalo 23 rushes, 49 passes=loss That New England game, Buffalo 23 rushes, 26 passes=loss That Texans game, Buffalo 30 rushes, 48 passes=loss Josh Allen had 9 carries for 92 yards a 10.2 YPC avg and 1 receiving TD. Notice the trend here when Buffalo runs the ball more then they throw it, they win! When they pass more it puts more pressure on that young QB to carry the game and they lose." Take solace in knowing that the Bills now have a GM that might be as good or even better then ex Bills GM Bill Polian. The Bills now have owners who don't need the team to make a profit to support themselves and want to win above all else. This is a first time head coach and first time GM who will make mistakes as they go as they are both learning. I think the 2020 Buffalo Bills will be a better team after this years draft and free agency. My biggest hope is Bills OC Brian Daboll takes a job as HC elsewhere or is fired because he stinks and will end up ruining Josh Allen. Asking Allen to throw 48 times was moronic as was asking Singletary to rush only 13 times. Why was Frank Gore in the game with 8 runs for 22 yards yards a 2.8 YPC avg, with 14 yards the longest and do the math. Take away that one 14 yard run, 7 carries for 7 yards = 1.0 YPC avg. The Bills offensive line should get better. The Bills receiving corps should get better. Look forward to 2020, its all we can do...BTW, The Patriots dynasty might finally be over!!!! Good times ahead!

McDermott: Josh Allen 'tried to do too much' in loss

This would make this Bills fan very happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd wait to see if he gets hired by Cleveland first. If not, i'd fire his Dumbell arse right after... I don't want that clown anywhere near Allen after this season. -
Daboll Brutal Down the Stretch

The Texans were 25th in rushing yards allowed too. If you go back and look over what has won games on offense for the Bills the latter half of this season. Its when they have a balanced offensive attack or run more often and pass less. That Steelers game, Buffalo 38 rushes, 25 passes =win! That Cowboys game, Buffalo 34 rushes, 25 passes = win! Notice the trend here when Buffalo runs the ball more then they throw it, they win! When they pass more it puts more pressure on that young QB to carry the game and they lose. Either this Bills OC doesn't know how to make the run game work so he forces the young, inexperienced QB carry the offense. Or he is attempting to show the world how great an offensive mind he is by forcing the pass game work no matter what. The offensive pass protections break down and the OC has no answer. the receivers have difficulty getting open and the Bills OC has no answer. Lot of Bills fans want to pile on the QB and yet he simply doesn't have enough playing experience to throw 48 times in a playoff game. -

I know a lot of Bills fans are saying that this offense is reflecting McD. It really isn't, would McD ask Allen to throw it 46 times? If it were up to McD all the team would do is run the ball. -

Daboll asking Josh Allen to throw 46 times was utterly moronic! Singletary only 13 rushes for 58 yards a 4.8 yard per carry average was utterly moronic. Meanwhile giving Frank Gore 8 rushes for 22 yards a 2.8 yard per carry average. Why is he even in the game? Needless to say Josh Allen led the team in rushing with 9 rushes for 92 yards a receiving TD. All you fans out there bitching about Allen, take him out of the game and you have no offense at all. -

There is just no way that this offense should have been asking Josh Allen to throw 46 times...no freaking way! and Singletary with only 13 rushes. This game was the Mr Hyde side of Brian Daboll and he can throw in some trick plays now and again but he can't figure out how to get a solid run game working. Or get the pass plays with proper protections working. There was a thread of Daboll getting an interview with the Browns and half of the Bills fans crying about it because they love the guy...I just don't understand why that is. Or why he should even remain on this coaching staff. -

46 pass attempts for Allen...why? vs 13 rushes for Singletary for 58 yards...why? Frank Gore 8 rushes for 22 yards a 2.8 ypc avg...why? I'm sure Brian Daboll will have his excuses for this game -

Grading Beane, McDermott, OC, DC, and JA
Nihilarian replied to Bing Bong's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with this. The Bills season isn't over and the team has a chance to earn a playoff win. My advice would be to simplify the offense as Daboll attempts to out think everyone...and yet lost to Freddie Kitchens... Get the run game and short passing games working and move the chains. Keep Watt out of the picture. -
Yes, the Chargers defense improved in 2017, so did their offense in passing yards going from 14th to 4th in the NFL. And in 2018 their rush yards per attempts went from 3.8 in 2016, 2017 to 4.7 YPA in 2018. Plus, the passing attempts went from 8th to 24th showing that their offense got better by throwing less and winning more games. I'm not struggling with anything as my eyes tells me that the players on one team have had great difficulty grasping and executing plays while the other enjoyed a more successful season with a playoff win! Yes, Phillip Rivers is a more experienced QB. However, like I stated, it didn't matter to Daboll who he had at QB as all of them have struggled in his scheme. Regardless of who Daboll has had at QB or on what team as in his six seasons as an NFL OC with four different teams along with multiple QBs. All his passing offenses have NOT been good or gotten out of the 20's in passing yards. Clev OC, 2009, 30th in passing yards Clev OC, 2010, 29th in passing yards Miami OC, 2011, 23rd in passing yards Kan OC, 2012, 32nd in passing yards 2013 NE offensive assistant 2014 NE's TE's coach 2015 NE's TE coach 2016 NE's TE coach 2017 Alabama OC 2018 Bills OC, 31st in passing yards 2019 Bills OC, 26th in passing yards I get it, you don't like Anthony Lynn for OC in Buffalo. There is simply no refuting that the man improved the Buffalo Bills play calling as OC, this over arguably the most sought after OC this season in Greg Roman. Plus, he improved the Los Angles Chargers as head coach. Let. It. Go.
