Yea, it’s never a focus. Beane needs to turnover every rock he can with what is still out there. Elijah Moore? Great look at him. The WR room is not great and very shallow. It probably can’t be improved much but he has to be constantly looking.
-
Super unprofessional, but good to hear the WR conversation is getting to Beane’s ears. Be vigilant in upgrading the room now and going forward Beane.

Bills 4th Round Pick : Deone Walker - DT - Kentucky

Love the big man spin move he has -
Beane after seeing this:

Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about!
-
It’s because of his 2023 season and senior bowl. He put up 7.5 sacks in the SEC in 2023 and then had several dominant reps as a pass rusher in the Senior Bowl practices. Admittedly, when he was healthy he had a nice spin move and was light on his feet to create havoc as a pass rusher. But what he does - playing high, having a light base, etc - does not bode well for players usually, especially against the run. So in the 4th round, they took a gamble on him being an exception. But a big guy with poor athleticism and a back injury history will likely make his career inconsistent at best. As Marino said, would be very happy to be wrong.

Wide Receiver Train Full Speed Ahead- CHOO CHOO!

Amari may be washed The most realistic needle mover is nutty George Pickens but I’m not sure the Bills would do that. Then you have guys like Alex Pierce, Rashid Shaheed coming off an injury, or Jakobi Myers -
Wide Receiver Train Full Speed Ahead- CHOO CHOO!
LEBills replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
Mahomes has a much better receiving room Im not sure what they can do to get much better. Amari and Kennan Allen are the best FAs left then it’s like Deontae Johnson and DJ Chark who both were terrible last year. Maybe they can swing a trade but usually that happens pre-draft. I hope we do -
Is there an NFL team with a weaker WR group than the Bills?
LEBills replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
Some fans think criticizing the Bills is akin to not being a fan Ive watched plenty of Palmer due to fantasy. The Chargers needed him to step up countless times through the years due to injuries to Williams and sometimes Keenan Allen. He could fill in and give replacement level production. When he was featured heavily he was inefficient. He did better as a role player but he just isn’t explosive enough to be a high level receiver. There is a reason the Chargers did not care much about losing him and then replaced him in the draft. I think his ceiling is another WR that their original team let walk in free agency during their prime: Jakobi Meyers. But I think Myers is a better player. -
Yea, I liked each player selected through the sixth round in a vacuum and see their roles as unseating or replacing some of the worst role players on the team. But when you look at the draft as a whole, it’s a bit more meh. The upside you hope to see in the middle rounds seems lacking (except for Strong who I was quite high on too). And I do think that is partly due to the double dip at DT instead of trying for an explosive offensive player. Id say player for player this is one of the best drafts Beane has had. But as a whole, it’s the swings we didn’t take that make the draft feel like it is missing something.

Exactly. Josh and the offense are subsidizing the defense. Since Josh was drafted, in the first 3 rounds we have drafted 4 DTs, 4 DEs, 3 LBs and 2 CBs (both firsts). In that same timeframe we have drafted 1 WR, 2 TEs and 3 RBs (two no longer with team and the other, second best player on offense is in a contract battle). People say we don’t need better players bc the offense was already legendary last year. It took a Herculean, MVP effort from Josh to get there. And in the end when Josh needed a player to step up when he didn’t make a perfect defensive read, the game was lost. But because a defense that has had so many resources poured into it sucked, we have to do it again instead of making an honest effort to improve both sides of the ball. I loved the first three rounds of the draft. But then not even trying to get Josh a weapon until the last pick in the draft is malpractice. There is no new talent in the pipeline so that if Keon or Kincaid don’t progress and if Palmer and Samuel are who they have always been, the team has nothing at least being developed behind the underwhelming cast. Which is exactly how we got to this spot when we never drafted anyone when Diggs was here. I type this like this will get to Beane, it won’t. This is who the Bills are. I’m just frustrated as a fan because I want what is best for the Bills and feel like giving Josh good talent on the offense is what would be best bc I trust him more than our coaches to get the most out of players. Go Bills, pay James Cook. -
What’s so frustrating is Josh doesn’t need a lot. If you give him a WR each year he will elevate them - look at Shakir. It’s the not taking a chance that hurts. And it’s because we have had to subsidize the defense. Since Josh was drafted in 2018, we have drafted 4 DTs, 4 DEs, 3 LBS, and 2 corners in the first three rounds of the draft. We have drafted 1 WR in that timeframe (2 if you include Diggs). And yet because our defense was bad last year we had to give EVERY asset to a unit that already has gotten so much. This comes down to Beane not drafting great and McDermott not getting everything he could from what he has been given
-
I only have limited exposure to him. What I have seen: He does have pretty good long speed with those long strides he has. Some of the cuts he has when he sticks his foot in the ground are pretty sharp. He has good hands. He played wide over 91% of the time. Lots of hitches and goes. Does not break many tackles or force many missed tackles as he is a pretty linear athlete. Im not sure what his special teams experience is. He has some tools to work with but I don’t think he is going to develop into a starter.

Pay the man
-
Yes protecting our franchise QB is good, I’m glad we finally figured that out. I hope Kincaid and Coleman do better too, but in case they don’t it would be nice to have a few talented players in the pipeline. I trust Josh to get much more out of resources than I do McDermott. I was very happy with day 1 and 2, just wanted something more for Josh today.
-
Yes I applauded that, but still need them to try harder. Hopefully they have something in the works Yes all but one team lost lol yes the Eagles defense was good but all of Phillys offensive weapons helped against a good KC defense. I like both sides just feels like offense hasn’t been addressed as much

Wide Receiver Train Full Speed Ahead- CHOO CHOO!

lol should have known, ill be watching Praether and any UDFA we bring in and try to do a similar write up -
Yes it likely doesn’t make a difference in one year. But when you keep drafting receivers each year, you eventually develop a more talented room and may actually draft a difference maker. We have not even really tried except for Coleman last year. What I’m saying is that you can’t expect that just because last year was great, that this year will be. I’d say that neither Hollins or Cooper has been replaced as underhelming as they were. At some point you need real talent rather than Jags like Shenault and Shavers who are our WR5 and 6. The reason we are at this place of people begging for WRs is because we barely ever draft them. The Chiefs keep drafting guys, the Eagles WR is stacked, the Lions have a star and former first rounder Williams and just drafted a guy in the third, the Ravens have two first round WRs even if Bateman isn’t great. Talented WRs are still important. And not having them makes things hard on Josh just like having a defense that gives up 31.
-
Yes we did. Thanks to an all time season from Josh. Now two of his receivers left and the running back that helped him is at an impasse with the organization. I’m very happy we added some defense, but we couldn’t have have used a pick before the 7th on someone who will catch a pass? Hawes is basically a blocker
-
For people to drop his passes or not get open. Need both silly
-
Hoping we bring in Badger, Nash or Armstrong as a UDFA!
-
Well after two years of free agency and two year of the draft, WR is still the biggest need on this team. Pay Cook. Loved the first three picks, just wanted a little more for Josh.
-
Did not watch much of him.
