  1. It's a variation on the challenge coin, which is way less ghey.
  2. Scott Adams had a guest article in the WSJ about investing in "Companies You Hate".
  3. I like to put mine on just before I make a dramatic statement.
  4. Most of the folks my age (Gen Xers) left not because we disliked the area, but because of the lack of job opportunities. My friends that stayed almost universally were going to run the family business, so they didn't have to leave. Others were able to snag a few good jobs that remained. /Still don't miss the snow, though
  5. If you're looking for barbecue, this place was on "Man vs. Food". Can't give you a first hand review, but it looked pretty awesome.
  6. So you've turned to pharmaceuticals to ease your Bills pain? Makes sense.
  7. It appears that the "Middlebrow beers" are losing market share: Article I suppose that's good news. I'd rather see someone drinking a PBR than hear "I'll have another Bud Light."
  8. Brad Anderson, the guy that did the Marmaduke comic, came into my dad's bar in Fredonia a few times. Dad said he was a nice guy and drew a few comics for the grandkids. /It would have been cooler if it was Bill Watterson
  9. Christopher Hitchens remarked that the contrast in success of the two Koreas is most evident during the changing of the guard at the DMZ. Only the best soldiers get the privilege of this duty and the South Korean soldiers are routinely a good 6 inches taller than their counterparts. This is due to the lack of good nutrition (or any nutrition) in the North. I'm dubious that this juice will narrow that gap.
  10. All very memorable. One that really struck me as ridiculous is less well known: Darryl Talley's hit on an Oiler that caused a fumble in that OT game where Kelly threw 5 TDs (here's the box score). Talley hit him and the ball came free. The ruling was that his forward progress had been stopped. No stojan his forward progress had been stopped! Heck, it was reversed. I was dumbfounded. Good thing the Bills ended up winning. And yes, the fact that I cannot remember whom Talley hit making this play not "memorable" is not lost on me.
  11. Don't forget "Dik Smub".
  12. Johnny Coli's "overheard movie pitch" was probably the best thing I've read on this board. What are you gonna call it? "Tardball". Unless I use midgets, then I'll call it "Low and Inside". Loved the stories from the store, too.
  13. Shhhhhhhhh!!
  14. The best baseball writer (IMHO) gives us his take As with the Halladay game, the strike zone was ENORMOUS! I'm beginning to think that after Joe West's comments about the games taking forever, the umps have taken it upon themselves to speed up the games. Scores/ERAs seem to be dropping and we've had 3 2 perfect games and a no-hitter. This game was played in 1 hour and 44 minutes.
  15. HFBD AJ. Go ahead and conga if you feel like it.
  16. I know a guy that could have cleaned up this mess.
  17. Congrats. According to the intarwebs, the 27th anniversary theme is "Sculpture". In my book, a banana split qualifies as a sculpture. So there's an idea for you.
  18. I've heard of this. The cops have a bet on what your reaction will be (if you start shaking, crying, say a "magic word"). Loser buys lunch. Pretty cool.
  19. And he's gone. Edit: That's odd. When I posted this, The Dean's reply was the only thing here. Sorry 'bout that.
  20. "If we weren't all crazy, we would go insane." -Jimmy Buffett, Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes 'Course, that guy is nutz.
  21. Saw this appropriate blog post today: Remember why we celebrate Memorial Day
  22. I like Five Guys, but that's a treat best enjoyed in moderation. The bacon cheeseburger showed up on the list of "8 Worst Meals in America". Here's a magazine piece about Five Guys from a couple of months ago. There's some good business lessons in there.
  23. [Thread-jack] Unrelated, but here's a cool time-lapse video of the 4/5/2010 Discovery launch. Sometimes, it's amazing what people can do. [/Thread-jack]
  24. I lurk a couple of times/day on FB. I sort of enjoy the updates from my "friends". It's good entertainment, much like this board. But I rarely stay on the site for more than a minute or two because the instant messages will start coming in. Just last week... [Her = very hot girl I used to work with] Her: Hey Hops! Me: Hey you. [Having not spoken in years we do 5 minutes of back-and-forth] Her: So... did you hear I'm single again? Me: Yeah, I heard. I was dancing around that. Her: Dancing around what? Speaking of dancing, do you ever go to [Local Dance Club]? And it goes on like this for 15 minutes... until Her: Well, I better run. I have the kids this weekend. About half of my "friends" are moms (single or happily married) looking for some adult interaction. Another single mom sent me a message: Her: Every time I see you're online and try to send you an IM, you're gone. I think you are a ninja. My reply: Why yes, I AM a ninja.
  25. First I thought of Rev. Cleophus, which in turn made me think of Rev. Brown.
